I see you everywhere dude
I just think 21 is too many pilots

Can we rotate the pilots? So that 20 of them get to chill while 1 flies for like 30 minutes? Or 19 chill while 2 fly?

Nonsense. We need all the help we can get to pilot this plane.

@@proddelle Fair enough. We all have opinions. But I have a feeling OP didnt even listen to Trench, everyone likes to hate on tøp just to hate them. They're easy to make fun of because of the fanbase.

SAI is awful. Made me sad cause Shy Away was the best song off the album. Only song I liked tbh
@@DrainedGaming idk everybody hates the new album but I like it it’s nice type of vibe songs and I pretty much like every song I guess just preference.
@@DrainedGaming shy away is very bland
@aloevv𖤐 sunday is the only good song on the album
This album feels a lot more like them being able to make what they want without as much pressure to try to make it with a more pop sound now that they've broken into the main stream. The song "Lane Boy" from Blurryface directly said that Tyler was constantly in conflict between the music he wanted to make and the music that he could make that would make it on the radio.
True
I very much agree. Blurryface just felt like a pop album for pop album's sake, not something that the guys wanted to specifically make. I mean luckily their character shows up a little bit, but it still felt sterile.
Trench is an example of a group that made something only because they want to make it, and it just happened to be good stuff that other people can enjoy.
...but then, how do you explain Scaled and Icy?
@@plebjames Well they said that SAI wasn't the real album that they were planning on releasing, they said that the pandemic ended up delayed the real album continuation of trench so they made SAI because they wanted to bring happy feelings or something like that in the middle of the pandemic and all but they are now continuing the production of the original songs on the original 2021 album they said.

Treegonaut I know all about it. It just sucks that they make such good music but whenever people hear their name they just think of cringey fans. I’m happy they have devoted fans that feel a connection to the music but sometimes they just go to far.
Melon: loves Trench
Spectrum Pulse: loves Blurryface
ARTV: loves Vessel
Man, TØP really does have something for everyone
i'd also pick Vessel any time of the day over Trench, but I do think contextually, Trench is 21p upping their game by a huge degree, and that's understandable, it's natural to get better production-wise and songwriting-wise as you make more music, and I'd argue Trench is like a huge improvement from Vessel's success.

I absolutely agree with the Linkin Park comparison. Hanging out with my 14 year old sister who's going through that same angsty phase I went through when I was her age, is also listening to twenty one pilots the way I listened to Linkin Park and I couldn't help and see the similarities in fandom and in behavior. lmfaooo
I wonder if Trench is their Ten Thousand Suns? (My fave album of theirs, def the most experimental)
I'd agree especially with trench being more clear as it's more heavy and gritty. Even though He did not like vessel as much that one tends to be my go to along with RAB and earlier as it's very heavy on the emotional messages and most of the people that listen to |-/ from what I've seen are very clearly emo and even I identified as emo at a point. Ones like Migraine basically explaining and giving the listener a look into what suicidal thoughts can feel like and kitchen sink (one I chose to never listen to less I'm alone letting *emotions out* because it messes with my emotions at any point) that ask our point of what we do and how perspective of other people makes us feel useless.
I grew up a Linkin Park fan and became a TOP fan near the end of high school and in college. So the demographic, at least anecdotally, does seem to be pretty much the same lol.
I don't really know what a "Twenty One Pilots" fan is. They seem to come in all shapes and sizes. Children love 'em, teens love 'em, girls love 'em, guys love 'em.... Even moms love 'em.
Teens mostly, mostly girls
Actually, it's just that the teenage girls are the most vocal. AS they normally are for almost any fanbase that has a lot of them. They've got a pretty wide range of fans.
I went to two shows during the last two legs of tour for Blurryface and there was actually a good mix of people. Sure, there's a lot of teenage girls (like me and my friend) but I saw really young kids, adult men, and even an elderly couple.
And me the 57 year old dude
And now, even melons love ‘em.

@Super Kawaii Kitty you where on that other comment section and deleted all of your comments because you lost the argument
I'm not sure whether to be happy he likes Trench or to be offended that he didn't like anything else by TØP
Anson Hartzler I think Vessel is, but that’s just what I think
Though it has worn off it's initial feel, I still adore this album, even if it isn't my favorite. Morph is the chill, edgy feel that isn't in your face. Jumpsuit is literally a banger. Levitate is insane and has better bars than most rap songs. Pet Cheetah has a insane drop and wants me to hear more songs like it. And Leave the City, it's cliffhanger like feel gives it more character imo, as it says that Tyler's battles are not quite over, which is very touching. And in general, it is catchy AF. So yeah, it's a great album.
Now I can listen to Twenty One Pilots without feeling guilty.
Only this album though

Brian Krosky I agree, except i don’t like truce that much.
Jakhow that’s surprising, I think it’s an emotional song anyone can relate to. Interesting enough, Trees was used as the closing song for their concert encores. Tyler always leaves an aroma of emotion
Um Fantano said he wasn't that fond of the closer. So its not good. Fact
Eh, I think Isle was the only great closer.
@@briankrosky3567 Wouldn't be surprised if they do a Bandito/Trees mix as the closer next tour.

I was skeptical as hell. Paused this review about 3.5 mins in, fired up Spotify, and the second "Jumpsuit" started playing I was like "damn". "Levitate" just started, and again DAMN. Those are both easily the most interesting TOP songs I've heard. What the hell did they do? They took some really good drugs or something, because this is some very good stuff. Good beats so far, their old stuff is so flat.
Marc John I watched an interview of Tyler Joseph and it seems the secret sauce was the classic, “I locked myself in the studio for a few months and perfected the sound.”
@@RUSHYRUSHY39 So pretty much locked himself in with a bunch of LSD... Lol, but seriously they went from almost being as boring as Imagine Dragons to pretty damn cool with this one. I hope they can keep it up because we can never have too much good music, and there's definitely no shortage in crappy music.
Marc John This year especially has had some really great albums too, let’s hope it only gets better from here.
@@RUSHYRUSHY39 Yeah, insanely good quality music this year.
One of their whole things is actually being sober (drugs and alcohol) because they think it will come in the way of their art. They've talked about this in interview before.

You know as a long time fan I have to say, this was actually one of the best videos you’ve released in a long time. Very well-structured, very consistent and coherent. By the first minute I can tell you put a lot of work into this video and honestly there’s nothing classier than that. The review was fair as well as interesting. As always I appreciate your opinion to the utmost degree and look forward to the next video. Well done, Anthony, well done
Jk dude I haven’t even watched it yet
lmao i liked it until ur last sentence
Tom Williams I comment a lot on Fantano’s videos. If you’ve seen me elsewhere, I don’t know what to tell you haha
@@phunintended2461 no not twenty one pilots, the review haha
Even though this comment was a joke I have to agree, he covered all the bases, every song, every element with humor, sincerity, and genuineness and I think this is one of his best reviews to come out this year. I'm not even a massive fan of the group, I did like Trench though but seriously you're pretty much spot on
this was cruel lmao
Pizza Hut should really sponser you with moustache you've got going on.
Maybe Pringles?
It looks like his nostrils have diarrhea
Anyone else back here as a recovery from the Scaled and Icy review?
@@horriblehistoriesfanaccountie honestly I think the reason it got so badly reviewed was because of how good Trench was. Scaled and Icy isn't terrible music, it's just a big step down from what TØP are capable of.
My favourite bit of the entire album is how Truce and Leave the City mirror each other.
In Truce, Tyler sings 'stay alive for me' and in LtC, Tyler sings 'For now I will stay alive'.
The ending notes of both songs are also the same.
Best... Timeline?
I found Anthony Fantano right around when Blurryface came out and I was a very devoted twenty one pilots fan. I didn't like many artists and twenty one pilots was one of like ten. They were pretty much all I listened to. Needless to say, I hated his review of Blurryface. However, I came back to watch it time and time again as I couldn't help but agree with so many of the points he made. It was around that time that I almost transferred my devotion from twenty one pilots to Anthony. I began to discover so many more artists and types of music. My palate expanded like crazy. I kind of stopped listening to twenty one pilots entirely aside from some week long phases of listening to them in secret every now and then. In the few years since the release of blurryface, my music taste has completely changed and I listen to completely different things now. But twenty one pilots still holds a very special place in my heart because I devoted so much of myself to them at one point. And this review made me smile so big, nearly brought me to tears. I'm not sure why I wrote all this.
Body Soap so did you listen to Trench yet?
I'm glad you did write that I enjoyed reading it. I always was up in the air when It came to 21pilots, I got addicted to them for like a week or two, somehow always finding my where back to their music after blurryface but ultimately knew I didn't enjoy them as a whole. But there's a lot of artists I follow that I don't like as a whole and I'm just waiting to see if what I see in them comes out. 21 came out strong with this one, I was up when they dropped it and was just laying in bed in the dark staring at the ceiling feeling how amazing this album was. So much more cohesive, so much more intense than blurryface. Was thinking an 8 or 9, and this review is awesome :)
I appreciate your story, thanks for writing it.
I know what you mean about disagreeing with Fantano but coming back to him all the same. What keeps me coming back is the fact that he has such a clear love of music and articulates it so well. Even when he doesn't like what I like or vice versa I can usually see the truth in what he's saying.
Blurryface is still cool my dude
Honestly blurry face wasn’t that bad at all especially for a pop rock/mainstream/contemporary what every u want to call them band. It’s really catchy and I enjoyed a lot of records on it but there were also songs that weren’t bad but really lack lustre. I say this to say u shouldn’t feel bad for liking something that he didn’t like. My tolerance for mediocre music is better than anothys which is why I liked it better.
Please stop underestimating these wonderful artists full genre as pop.
edit: quit with the hate, its an opinon, thanks to people for being nice and now im more educated. that was a year ago.
JustmeEmilee 43 I mean, they are kind of pop, don’t get me wrong, I like twenty one pilots but yeah I’m pretty sure they are pop or at least alternative pop
@@saito2582they call themselves schizo pop i think
pop music doesn't mean it's bad. opposite. some kinds of it can show a high level of quality, only important thing is that the author shouldn't be lazy and love his work so much
I've always loved this band and I've always thought the whole "schizopop" was really lame. They're alt pop. Nothin special genre wise
@@yuhgetintoit3190 true, im alot older now, or atleast a year lol. alot has happened and i have realized that. thanks for being polite.
coming back here to pay respects.
ARTV and Spectrum Pulse are going to freak out when they see this score
Connor Jackson ARTV is dumpster fire
@@AnthonyLongboarding agreed
Artv is the cancer of music reviewers on UA-cam
@@Emme-Kappa how come? I'm not so much unto his reviews but those that I've seen seemed pretty average to me and not all that bad
Connor Jackson who
I have been so excited for this review because I for some reason, as someone who had only listened to and liked like 2 TØP songs ever, gave this album a go and was totally blown away. Been listening to it from front to back all week. Knew it was a special one and I was hoping you would think the same! And YAY you do!!
For real it’s a light 9 though... lol. Like that super tight clarence clarity level production, the experimental heavy sounds, Tyler’s vocal performance, and the strong narrative. It’s so well-rounded and just a great display of talent and craft.
I have a similar experience with the group and I definitely thought an 8 or 9. Yay for good music!
What experimental heavy sounds?
You should give Vessel a try it's not as bad as he says it is....actually it's pretty damn great!
If I listen to Vessel will you listen to Atomizer by Big Black?
Jacob Kell Pet Cheetah is really experimental, but that’s about it. The other songs have a unique sound too but they aren’t all that experimental
I always felt like this band had tons of untapped potential, that's part of the reason I really disliked their last albums. Listening to this feels like a step in the right direction. They still haven't reached their peak IMO but if they keep towards this trajectory they have potential to be one of the very best, no joke.
I love this comment
I thought vessel was really good personally
If you’re right, they finna get a ten and i’m all for that
I personally think both Vessel and the self-titled are great albums, but Trench is definitely on another level. Actually my third favorite of 2018.
You’re absolutely right
Ok I totally love Smithereens but other than that, we gucci with this reviewcci
Wow... Shaggy 2 dope tried to fight Fred Durst the other day. Now this. The simulation is self evident. Keep Asking questions.

I could totally see Twenty One Pilots being this generation’s Linkin Park.
Agree but blurryface is akin to hybrid theory. Trench is the group's Meteora
my god, yes.
expect they are actually good

YOU HAVE BECOME THE VERY THING YOU SWORE TO DESTROY
I really think that Trench is the best Twenty One Pilots album...
Well, until the next one.
Despite Vessel being what got me into the band and still having some of my favorite songs in the band discography (Car Radio, I'm looking at you right now), Blurryface was an improvement and Trench is an improvement of Blurryface.
Their collab with Mutemath is the best version of those songs (dude, Tear In My Heart, with a trumpet and a totally dance intro... c'mon) made me think what a TØP album produced by Paul Meany would sound like.
And that's Trench.
Not to demerit Tyler's composition, but I'm pretty sure that all those crispy bass tones and the variety of synths and samples are all Paul's ideas. He took what TØP usually sounds like, broke it and glued together again.
(I'm pretty sure that there's a japanese word for this).
Kintsugi is the japanese word
And playing with Darren King definitely made their drummer better too
well...
I still think that to this day, Trench deserves actually a strong 9 to light 10
