Gary Clark Jr. is one of the best contemporary songwriters and guitarists.
This dude is so legit live, he's the embodiment of a rock star. His presence on stage is almost intimidating, but his music is disarming and he's a genuine, cool guy. He's also one of the best guitar players I've ever seen live. He reminds me of BB King, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Jimi Hendrix all rolled into one.
I so agree!! I saw him 7-8 years ago and he was up on stage with his guitar wearing this large black hat that covered his face in shadow for most of the performance. He looked so mysterious and almost eerie. That coupled with the deeply soulful music - definite rockstar material.

This song so deeply speaks to my soul. My brother chose to take his life 9 months ago, and it still feels like barely any time has passed. He was my soul friend who understood me like no one on this planet ever did, and he was the kindest, most giving person I've ever known - he just suffered from his own self pain or demons as they say. I love you Jesse and I miss you every day.. I know you're at peace too 🪽

Agreed... he's so open about his struggles and failures and it translates directly to the music. When I first heard this song it broke me down, made me well up w tears "🎶 that I just can't shake 🎶"
Fantastic performance. I just wish he would have been able to play the full 9 minute version. The 2nd half is my favorite part!

@@colinreese i know tons of musicians and play several instruments myself. all of us have played since we were kids and very few have that defining thing that inspires and defines "natural" talent.

Ah, I remember that time I was fortunate enough to be 'around a fire' (if you will) after a festival set - and Eric Clapton and John Legend were both speaking about this man with such eloquence and honor.... which blew my own mind. If his song is true about himself, it's such a pity. He's so young and has a whole life yet to live, and life goes on much longer than you know when you're young. He has time to cure himself and stop mourning his innocence. All humans come to that conclusion sooner or later, and it shouldn't come so early in life. You have the whole world to explore. Just do it and don't dwell so much on the present.
I honestly like this version better than the studio version.
Gary's great, but this piece wasn't one to really show off his guitar playing chops.
