I misspoke on Relentless! Yes it “can” give two actions (it usually does because you are mostly at 2 prowess with LotH) but it gives an extra action for every prowess you do!
Can confirm: You can trust him on that one.

@@LordoftheBoard I forced people into a WL-double VB game during playtesting, and I described the experience as: "The worst faction combo that's legally selectable in advanced setup"
I just played my first game as LotH with a single Vagabond and I spent most of the game feeling robbed. Can't imagine what hell playing two of them would be
Interestingly, I played as LotH with a vagabond and it was the vagabond moaned most of the game, until they jumped to 29 VPs and the entire table rallied against them. I happened to go right before them so I could steal any crafted items which is probably what got me the win in the end.

This is a fantastic guide! You covered all the little pitfalls that newer players find themselves in and really hit the nail on the head about how you have to see your role at the table from a point pace and policing standpoint. I was going to make my own guide but now I'll need to find some more things to talk about because you basically hit every important point! I still haven't checked out your round 3 game as Lord of the hundreds but it's in my queue. See you around the woodland.!

Haha oh boy im sure you will find things to talk about. there is some major nuance and tabletalk i left out. But i see what you mean. I cant figure out how to approach a Keepers guide because you already did such an excellent job. Ill be sure to shout out that video once i do end up dropping the Keepers video. Sounds good :)

I've binged this entire series as a new player trying to figure out all the races in the expansions, and it's been fantastically helpful. I've been doing way better in games since watching these videos.

Won my first Root game today as the Lord of the Hundreds! I think I found a new favourite.
Really solid guide. Thanks Sam you're doing a great job.
Two points I disagree with: first the adjacent mob idea. If you want to surprise you're opponents, than why put down a mob in turn advance when they see what might come to them. It's not only not luck depended but it actually achieves the same board state when you incite in the clearing you want in the turn you squad there. With the difference that you don't have the other mob on the board which imo is a liability in most cases because it is a point for an opponent.
Second the fox crafts. Sword and crossbow are prowess items and therefore pretty good but as you said wrathful and stubborn are some of the best moods. I actually think bunny crafts are some of the most important, because boots only shut down jubilant and coins are 3 points. Charm offensive is actually a really really good warlord craft and swap meat just has a lot of utility.
And one little addition for the opening: try to fill 2 adjacent 2 slot clearings ASAP with strongholds. This just let's you craft a lot and you have 2 clearings that you can easily opress with your command actions. Then the warlord runs around for more cleanings to opress and when he dies, you still have a huge army at home that the newly anointed Warlord can use immediately.
Yes totally! I wish I could have explained that points better. Cause rewatching I think I didnt explain it well. Yeah it is technically the same reaction time. But it’s more the psychology of it. You inciting directly on something immediately sparks - they want it. They aren’t usually thinking they want what’s around it. That’s when it starts paying out to get the future mob tokens out with raze. As opposed to it getting removed you want a single mob token to generate the rest as much as possible. So inciting in a clearing that can spread to multiple valuable clearings is important!
Definitely agree on Bunny crafting being important too! I was mostly simplifying to show that both items and card effects of all fox craft cards are good for LOTH. Totally agree with you though. Also yeah i mentioned charm offensive because its so good and swap meet can help!

The editing in this video is great! I'm pretty new to Root and have only played W.A and the Rats, but so far the rats are definitely my favorite! Thanks for making a strategy video :) any advice against Lizards players as this faction? There's a Lizard FIEND in my group and it seems like a really difficult matchup. Thanks!
What a moment to get into root. I envy you
The lizards are one of the big 3 problem factions with Lord of the Hundreds - other two being corvids and vagabond.
The first advice I would give is to make a deal with them. Their gardens hold the fate of the game for them. If they mess with you can bite back hard on their gardens.
Second one is to try and maintain clearings with multiple building slots. The more strongholds in 1 clearing will make it harder for them to maintain gardens in those clearings.

I just played this fraction the first time today. A couple questions:
1. Advance the Warlord action: Could you choose to not move at all and just battle up to your prowess?
2. Mob tokens: there's no way to remove/move placed mob tokens unless another faction destroys them?
3. Can you not do any part of Raze if you have no mob tokens on the board?

Hey Sam awesome content ❤️ as always. Just a few questions/remarks:
- Why is spreading a mob more surprising to our enemies than inciting the mob directly on the target clearing? They have one turn to react in both cases..
- Relentless doesn't give you 2 more actions, it gives you 1 more action per Prowess.
- True that warlord won't opress so much at higher player counts, but he's really good at scoring from destroying buildings and tokens in battles, and at higher player counts there's a higher abundance of such targets.. And other players also have a slower scoring at higher player counts. Don't you think it might balance out?

- true I misspoke on relentless! But yes you get a choice to do 1 more after each.
- as per the winter tournament they seemed to fair a lot worse at higher player counts. 4 they perform good though. It’s just they get really good the lower you go. But even in the video I mention this should be explored. It’ll take time to truly know!

Played my first Rat game on five player (yes we call it rat). I somehow won, but if you snowball everyone just stomps you and it’s hard to comeback. When your warlord dies that’s when lavish is good because you can immediately come back strong

Would u still recommend underground expansion over maurader to a 3 player group, as the hirelings could be viewed as a priority in the evaluation?
I think this expansion is great because it comes with those advanced setup cards. The hirelings and 2 red factions! I am leaning Marauders but you can’t go wrong here

Had real trouble with the Warlord against Alliance (constant removal of important cards by mobs attacking sympathy), and the Corvids (spamming recruits in my clearings to stop oppression).
Anyone got recvomendations?
Againts WA, just don't have card to steal. Also you can try walking into their bases with an army that's to large to kill and incite. This will kill of their base and sympathy wichi is free points and gets past gurila warfare.
Corvids are just a problem in general and there isn't much you can do. Maybe you can try putting riot tokens on your important clearings but other than that you can't do much to stop them from poping up everywhere.

That is Almoravid. Just got my copy. It’s the second in the Wargame series levy and campaign. Intense asymmetric 2 player Wargames set in the Medieval period. It focuses more on suppling and hiring aspect of an army. It’s really good.

What would be a good starter for 2p? Both for factions and hirelings (got the KS pack). Also would advanced setup be used?
Badgers vs Cats is fun at 2p! Rats are really strong.. but not over powered! so honestly as long as you both pick a militant (red) faction you are good! cats / duchy / eyrie / rats / and badgers !
Yes you can still use advanced setup! just draft 3 cards and follow the Setup card prompts!

@@AP-nz8qv yep!! We have been enjoying it. There will be games where one wins from like 22 to 30 points or so. This is normal. In 2 player games players can build up engines a lot easier so it’s a bit more chess like. One too many mistakes will add up

Power level they are between the middle and the top. I think they are very powerful. But definitely see a hit on performance at higher counts.
Personal ranking for them is smack dab in the middle. But they are slowly growing on me
