My favorite faction by far - this is older content, but still feels on the money for tips and I appreciate it now that your recent content brought this channel to me!
*heavy sigh* The Keepers were probably my most hated faction to play. I tried them twice and now I have ptsd just thinking of playing them again. But I appreciate this video, gives me hope in trying out some of these tips. Biggest thing I learned, card draw. I wasn’t giving myself enough to work with. Start slow, build up, then burst
During the sponsor segment I realised that Leder Games greatest titles are all consists of 4 letters :O
Thanks for the great content btw I was waiting for this episode :)
Yeah, after a couple games, they basically went "Well I guess this is our shtick now"
If you get all the relics, it’s not just 27 points, it’s 35 because of the additional 2 points per column. Theoretically, depending on luck, 30 points can be achieved just with collecting relics. Of course that’s not very likely, so grabbing extra point when possible is always good!
Who would win? A large army of valiant badgers willing to secure their ancient relics or a pyromaniac cat.
Absolutely love your root videos! Over the past month I’ve picked up root as well as a few expansions and fell in love with the game, and a huge part of that was because of your videos! They helped me get familiar with slightly more advanced concepts revolving the game and i’m very grateful that you made them :)
Thank you for this video, I've been waiting for this for awhile for it. Until now I haven't been able to get ahold of the keepers, but thanks to this video I think I can start to win with them.
Finally got around to watching this now that I'm playing the marauders expansion. Absolutely fantastic tips and very well presented as always! Feeling hyped to play as then again now!
Dude you're great, I love the writing, speech and editing. Great quality! Thank you for helping us (I am just preparing to host a first marauder game night!)
Love the videos, keep them coming!
At 14:05 you said that you can only get a total of 27 points from relics but that isn't taking into account the +2 you get from completing a column. I could be reading something wrong, but that should mean that there are 35 possible points from relics.
I totally played this differently in my first games: I never ruled more that 3 clearings at the same time and I just moved around the board a lot. I mostly recovered in the same clearings I was delving in.
It felt a bit weird, it felt like playing a rebellious faction instead of a militant one, pretty funny if u ask me.
I loved your tips tho, made me realize a very good way of playing the Keepers, I won a lot following your tips!
Another fantastic guide! I know nothing of this game except what your guides show me. Always a pleasure!
@@theabsentfriend4002 This is not a game... it is a way of life... walk in it my friend... join us. join us. join us.
@@scripturalmotivation That's what I was told about Ultimate Werewolf, lol.
Looking forward to playing these guys.
@6:00 I know it is a joke but regarding the Live off the Land rule, isn't it mentioned somewhere that the one guy you remove actually goes foraging for more food in the forest as you have no real established infrastructure? I think I have read about it back then in the PnP guide.
Fun trivia that I have noticed with the basic Root deck that you cannot craft the Royal Claim card for the exact same reason but the game does not stop you from crafting Tax Collector :D
8:55 Sam you're hilarious. I really appreciate the mini stories you put into your work. Even the into, referencing "a clearing story", was awesome.
Badgers have to be my "fav" faction (I use the term loosely because they're all awesome (except I still haven't played 3 lol), and anyone who thinks the faction is OP... I'd say they forget you cannot recover relics without ruling matching clearings (# required shown on relic). 10:45, you mention this, but most forget how difficult that actually is to get done when playing against other militant factions (rats, cats, etc.). Imagine a late game 4-player match where you want to recover a 3 relic in a fox clearing... but you cannot recover that unless you RULE 3 fox clearings. That is a tough thing to do vs any combo of opponents late game... Unless you're playing v. 2 vagabonds and the Alliance. LOL that would be a rough game for everyone I think.
But I really like that rule, like you said, it makes you focus on dominating that clearing's suit because Relics don't retain their suit once delved, you can have a base, move the relics around, and it's a really cool feature. It's also nice for other players because, like Cats, Rats, and Birds, most spread and try to rule as they go. The badgers are nomadic and never really stay in one place, but they have a heavy presence. Very genius design by the Makers!
Thanks for the vid LOTB. You rule.
Thank you for your guide. I taked note everything haha ^_^
I thin that as a regular tip would be better to discard a regular wild card than faithfull retainers because we as the keepers in iron draw a ton of cards so when we discard a card we have later a greater chance of getting more bird cards, but i think you are right in situations where there are more factions that draw a ton of cards and like getting birds or maybe you locked in your retinue an ambush or a card other factions would love to craft
Excellent! Thanks for your videos.
Good vid. I think it will actually help me
After 2 games with them I'd say: place all your initial waystations (preferably 2 on the same suited clearing) and deliver relics there. Think about it as pick -up and deliver. Don't decamp early on as it's more valuable to have that extra card every turn.
Hey great video, biut I think you forgot that you gain an addiiinal 2 VP when you complete a column (1 of each relic). So the total would be 35 VP for recovering all relics
You are correct! The bonus gets you over the threshhold. I should have mentioned that! Its not often you are going to complete all the relics. Looking for other points is very important.
Yet to win as the keepers, wish I watched this video before I played them. I always try to rule all the clearings when I delve.
Hey! Me and my wife are going to buy root. What factions should we play as to start at a two player count
Are you getting the base game set of root? If so - Marquise de Cat vs Eyrie is the best way at 2 :)
Not sure if it was a joke at 5:19? But, Segway is the brand name of the two wheeled scooter things. You did a quick Segue. I wouldn't mention it, but the fact that you then say "We have a channel sponsor", I dunno, just struck me as a little off. Apologies if this seems nitpicky. Thanks for the great content! You helped me finally win the Otters!
15:24 the woodland alliance takes the highest die when defending :P
@@LordoftheBoard nevermind I just realized that you take that into account while removing pieces. I feel stupid haha
@@Hankrecords they can only deal damage up to number of warriors. So the first roll was a wash for WA because of armored knights. And then the second roll was undefended so adds the +1 to a 1 and cleared both tokens.
@@Hankrecords haha I just responded with the reasoning. No it’s fair. The armor makes it seem wrong. Lol and with the defenseless bonus on the second roll.
I played these yesterday and madeamy of the mistakes you mention 😅 I stormed ahead early in points and managed to get board wiped. I came second though - Their come-back mechanic isn't bad!
Yeah its definitely not terrible! they are really good at playing 3rd or 2nd and then storming last minute for the win.
2:36, wait this isn't allowed right? You can only encamp once per clearing in a turn?
Yup you should encamp in each of your starting clearings 👍🏽 doesn’t change the opener - just filmed a goof
@@LordoftheBoard Ah oh, you might wanna add that your video as a close caption. Great guide otherwise! I wish this faction would be added to Root Digital so I can practice.
I spy JoCo on top of Pax Pamir over there 👀
My favourite part what was when the marauders said " It's maurabing time" and maraubed all over everyone
2:34 encamping twice in one clearing??? For shame!
Yeah oopsie! I should have just filmed it the proper way - encamp in each opening clearing
Jesus loves you
I was a bit shocked at how poorly the rules are explained for this faction. Literally anything important is omitted or not explained. Also recovery is by far the hardest part and downright hopeless unless you multi camp in same clearing. 1/10 for this video
Wait so because you don’t understand a faction due to the rules my video gets a 1/10? Huh?
You cannot encamp twice in one clearing on the same turn! So the opener would be encamp 1 time in each of your starting cleanings. 👍🏽
