- In this video, How private practice and academic practice in Anesthesiology compare, I reference the article, “How do you get Paid in Anesthesiology: Private Practice vs. Academic Medicine.” www.thescopeofpractice.com/ho... as the basis of discussion about the major differences in salary, compensation, and job description for an attending anesthesiologist in private practice vs academic practice. This is not a complete guide to figuring out which job type will work for you, but is meant to give some examples of each model of employment. Salaries and compensation vary from region to region and also can be even higher based on experience, fellowship training, and other qualifications.
A job is more than just a salary and it is important to really understand everything that a position will offer as well as require you to do!
This is a video for all those who are interested in Anesthesiology, becoming an Anesthesiologist, or anyone considering practicing medicine.

I'm an MD-2 great video
@@deepashkumar4855 do you know how hard it is to work during med school??
U getting paid yet?
Thank you for this insight! I just started medical school a week ago, & I have been considering anesthesia.
I love this video! Thank you for always keeping us informed 💗💗
Can we get another “day in the life of” .. you maybe when you’re doing other stuff in anesthesia or outside of the hospital?
Absolutely LOVE this!!!!!!!!!!!!
starting my anesthesiology residency in June- thank you for the info!
This was very informative. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Thanks so much for watching
Love your hair!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Definitely broke it down in an easy way for everyone to understand. Great video.
Great video, doc.
Thank you for the video
Thank you for this very informative video!
Thanks so much for watching
great video Dr. Francois!
Thanks for watching.
This hairstyle on you is sooooooo beautiful
watching this as a third year premed student like i have all the time in the world and don’t have a practical exam for hematology tomorrow…..😭😭
Very informative video! Thank you. Do you mentor aspiring physicians?
We miss your post!
I wish I would've gotten into this instead of my current career choice. I always wanted to be in the medical field. Much respect to all you Healthcare professionals
It's never too late the switch many of my classmates in med school had previous careers (lawyer, engineer, nurse, teacher etc) and are in their 30s or 40s!
I’m not sure if you’ve covered this already, but can you make an video on how you make being a mom and a doctor work. I have two little ones and planning on applying to medical school soon but I’m not sure how medical school and residency will impact my time with my children.
Yes I will. Stay tuned for that.
Hi where is best and cheapest state to rent closest to new york hospital. And salary for permanent residency frist year..
If you are trying to decide between W-2 salary and independent contractor work, more often than not your W-2 pay should be more because there are fewer ways to reduce your taxes when you work for someone else as an employee.
Hey doc, you are so humble. Isn't one of the reasons also that you are brilliant and your scores were excellent? No one is getting 222 in step and going for anesthesia right? Wishing you continued success.
Question- is every anaesthesiologist who works in a hospital expected to educate students? Or can I choose not too??
It is frowned upon if you don’t educate interns
Question- as a med student, how did you find the time to work and earn money??
American students don’t typical work in medical School. Financial aid provides loans and if you need additional funds you can apply for private loans. You could also perform well in undergrad and get a full ride scholarship or partial scholarships. Or if you already Work in a hospital you can look into your employers scholarship programs
Tips for the MCAT? How didyou prepare for the Step exams?
So did you have to go through residency? If so what were your steps after residency
Anesthesiology residency is 4 years after med school
I think I know you. I don’t want to put the name of the hospital you work. I know we had mask on but I think you gave me my first 3 intubations back when I was in respiratory school in Weatchester NY.
What's the tax rate??
What are your thoughts on CRNA?
Chile. I have never met a single doctor that has any type of respect for a CRNA.. and they better not have a PhD and call themselves a doctor (sarcasm)
@@rthurmond1995 Why would there be a lack of respect? Is this the superiority complex of some sort?
Is that after taxes
Love the video
Do you offer mentorship
Is a fellowship required to get a job in an academic practice? Great video!
Trnslation: get to know what you to know about the patient, knock them off, count the $
Do you ever feel like hospitals push anesthesiologists to prospect or see more patients than is reasonable?
That will never happen. You can only deal with one patient at a time and if it’s for a surgery then your with that patient for as long as the surgery takes. Hospital can’t influence that.
@@brendan0083 sure but they can make you supervise 4 CRNA’s instead of sitting directly in one patient case. Now all of a sudden you are liable for 4 patients and 4 other people taking care of them and you have to bounce around from room to room. Hospitals will always try to squeeze money/work out of anyone. They love them dollars, sadly.
@@TheAbrahimAhmed This! Literally what I’m most worried about if I get into anaesthesiology. I like doing 1 thing at a time and doing it properly.
@@TheAbrahimAhmednot all anesthesiologist positions focus on supervising CRNAs they weren’t taught all those years in school just to do that
@@xplicitgoofy1015 definitely not, but in the U.S. for-profit healthcare system a lot of hospitals opt for supervisory care to maximize care provided while minimizing costs for themselves. As an anesthesiologist you don’t have to work in a supervisory role. Historically, the west coast lends itself more towards physician-run anesthesia groups, while the east coast lends itself more towards the 4:1 anesthesiology to CRNA supervision model. You can definitely opt not to do that and take jobs where you solely provide anesthesia care, but over time it’s becoming more and more common to be a part of the job, even if at the expense of quality of care. I personally would not want to be potentially only able to supervise. I would want to practice anesthesia and practice medicine.
I recently trained with a Keller Williams Real Estate Agent and for the past month she made $83,000, that was only one month.
How much is her yearly income? Plz reply. Thanks a lot.
