I’d say the intention was more for the line to be interpreted as Logan’s subconscious thoughts about Jean and how he feels she would be feeling. I don’t think Jean would actually feel those words as fact, rather it’s Logan’s mind trying to grapple with that guilt.

@@999dawnfm The reason he struggled with remembering his past for most of his history, is that whenever he undergoes a traumatic experience, he ends up developing a dissociative amnesia, which according to Sabretooth, it is something caused by his healing factor.
This is sort of exemplified on the miniseries that tells Wolverine's origin story.
After manifesting his powers for the first time, James ran away in shame. When Rose found him later hiding in the barn, he had seemingly forgotten about most of the experience:
So yes, his healing factor “covers" his mental health, at least according to the books. It appears however that is a bit random, since although he has “forgotten” about many of his traumas, he is also a character defined by his other traumatic experiences..

James Mangold was the perfect director for this movie and Logan. He has the best grasp of any director on who Wolverine really is, a man who feels he’s lived too long and lost too many loved ones to bear, who wants more than anything to find a sense of peace and purpose, but will drop all of that to defend or avenge the helpless.
And for non comic readers, yes Logan spent a long time in Japan, in fact in the original canon Logan met Yuriko (Deathstrike from X2) in Japan and the 2 became lovers, then became mortal enemies. There’s a great story on how in order to get in the best shape of his life Hugh Jackman went to visit The Rock while he was filming a movie to ask for workout and diet tips, and when a PA went to The Rock’s trailer to all him to set he merely told the PA “Tell them to wait for a minute I’m giving Wolverine workout advice.”

50 years ago, Wolverine debuted in Marvel Comics from an appearance with The Incredible Hulk to a newly recruited member with the X--Men.
But in 1982, his first-ever solo series by Frank Miller (300, Sin City) and Chris Claremont (1970s X-Men) defined the character of Logan.
His story was set in Japan and Logan's life was likened to that of an Ronin (samurai with no master).
He has the heart to stand against opposition, but is still learning/finding a direction in life.
The film uses elements from the solo series and is set long after the events of X3:The Last Stand.
This is Hugh Jackman's 2nd film with director James Mangold following the romantic comedy, Kate & Leopold (2001).
Struggling with Jean's death, finding his place in the world and losing his healing temporarily is the most drama.
The action, romance, suspense, intrigue of being a Gajin (outsider) caught in someone else's battle really feels like the comics.
2 of the antagoniss;Viper is originally human and known as Madame Hydra in the Captain America comics.
Yashida in the Silver Samurai suit is based on the Silver Samurai and Ogun characters/known Wolverine villains.
The Unleashed Extended Edition is definitely the way to go.
A really good sequel, rightfully steps ahead of and more loved than X-Men Origins:Wolverine.
But both Logan & Professor X (solo/together) would soon face even greater obstacles.
The evolution was not over and I personally couldn't wait to see so much more in this universe.

Hands-down, my favorite wolverine film. I was actually station in Japan when it came out we watched it in Tokyo and watched it in Sydney as well when we were on deployment. The emotional weight that Logan carries seeing death everywhere he goes not able to do the same as his loved ones who pass on to the next life throughout the centuries is very heavy. On top of which I feel like he has survivors guilt, and I love how they weave real life events into the marvel history..

Ten minutes later, he’s making a pass at her. After that, they don’t really have any meaningful interaction but by the end of the movie he’s telling her his heart belongs to her. WTF.
Then in the second one, he makes a move and kisses her and she stops him.

Epic Rap Battles of History actually pit Wolverine and Freddy Krueger against each other and it was dope😄. But, that’s their only actual face off that I know of…
Unless Death Battle pit them against each other too👀🤣

This Yukio is the same Yukio as in Deadpool 2. And Yukio is right about how Logan dies. With his Heart in his Hand.

The extended/uncut version of this film is waaay better than the theatrical version. A great comic book movie. In the comics, Wolverine has a whole love story in Japan. And it involves the yakuza. That part of him being shot by arrows is lifted right out of the pages of Wolverine. Great geeky stuff. My only negative is their take on Silver Samurai. His much more layered in the comics. Not just some sort of automoton. Loved your reaction!

This shows all the hacks of a healing factor in real time because Logan tried to fight Yashida with that book still in his chest, he would’ve got cut to ribbons. I see it right now. It is crazy.

Also just as a fan if this era of the comics is dope. Its where logan actually mastered the sword learned honor and regain his humanity after some typically Logan stuff- trauma memory wipe the like- which he later passed on to some of the xmen namely Rouge and Kitty Pryde-who walks through walls in xmen last stand-. Such a rich story to pull from

I remember liking this movie when it first came out but it ages real well IMO after DOFP, Logan & D&W...seems to have laid the groundwork for how great the future movies will be 😃👍🏾👌🏾🫡
I never had a problem w/the Silver Samauri (he was selfish & corrupt from the start + Logan had to get over Jean) & the opening scene is one of the Best in the genre IMO 💯

Fun fact: in the scene where Wolverine meets older Yashida in the medical room, the weird looking machine to the right with a hose and attached to a "plunger" is called an oscillator. I don't think we use that machine anymore but it sounds like a washing machine when its on!

Hiroyuki Sanada vs. The Wolverine the battle at the house my favorite character (s) driven battle. The lines with "What kind of Monster are you?" and Logan saying "The Wolverine" brought it full circle.
