  • In this video, I share the basics of how I make a Bukkehorn. Keep in mind that every horn is different and the techniques must change slightly depending on the species, length and density of each horn. If you'd like to learn more, let me know and I would be happy to answer questions. I've considered to make longer, more detailed tutorials if people are interested.

Great video, very informative. I would have thought the placing of the fingerholes was much more mathematical, but it's just "kinda pick out the middle of the horn" and the fingers "about an inch spaced apart" (and then of course some microtuning).

Yup, for the most part. And each horn is different, so that plays a big role too.

Very good video! I have been looking for information on how to craft my own horns and this is exactly what I needed. =) What kind of app do you use for the tuning? At the moment, I use a guitar tuning app but yours looks better.

Glad it's of help! I use an app called PanoTuner. It's the best one I've used so far.

Hello bro, your work is great, ask, is the goat horn mandatory? could it be cow? Do you have or know of any historical finds of the instrument, I want to make one for my historical recreation group.

The Bukkehorn is traditionally a goat horn, however they have been made of cow horns. I've made some from a cow horn before and it works. Different sound but it can be tuned in the same scale. There are a few resources online if you search Bukkehorn history.

Thanks a lot for this video!
I'm just starting to make a horn and I was wondering about the mouth piece.
Seems there is actually too diameter not just a straight hole right?
You have first a thin hole that goes through, then on the extremity you have a bigger diameter right? could it be straigh hole (one diameter only) kind of like a didgeridoo? (I don't have mechanical tool and do by hand so... hehe)

Thank you. Yup, the internal diameter tapers and gets wider. You want to look for a horn that has a flatter internal spacing.

Bro that is AWESOME. I'm making one as soon as I make another horn order. I make shofars fornthe glory of Jesus Christ. I saw a guy Ale Moller I think his name was do this with a cows horn and I was blown away at how beautiful it sounded. 😍
