Excellent video! 3 things that have helped me: 1. Read the book "The War of Art' by Steven Pressfield. This books also references the quote from the Bhagwad Gita. 2. Write down Long-term, short-term and daily goals 3. Use the 'Pomodoro' technique. Break down large tasks into intervals of 25 minutes. In my experience, procrastination often occurs because of feeling overwhelmed by a big task. By breaking down a big task into smaller tasks, it makes it easier to take action.
Wow, I clicked on this thinking it wasn't gonna help much (ie, to procrastinate). To my surprise, I've never heard of this stuff before. And I'm always looking for ways to rewire myself. I've written down the 5m method and will tape it up by my desk :) Thank you so much!!
It's the first time I hear of chronic procrastination being associated with fear of commitment. This may actually be helpful. I have both, but I never thought they could be related.
Thank you so much. I am a 68 yr old who is totally impressed by your ted talk. Loved your 3 mmm. Your method is motivating and folks are never too old to learn. Again thank you🙏
“One must do action without any expectation of the fruit of the action.” One must do work without expecting the reward or a fear of consequences The work should be done with no emotion in any external factors
Wow! To have figured out this much about overcoming procrastination while still in high school is incredible. Wonderful job and thank you so much for sharing your story and tips! As a woman in her mid-30's who is a struggling "situation procrastinator," this was very helpful!
My god. What she says about the byproducts of procrastination at 13:20... I think I might just have found the cause of my stress, anxiety, depression and diminished self esteem. Mind-blowing.
No. Lack of appreciation when the value is obvious is always because they/ the other people are different. For example a group of average or below people facing an above average person. Or maybe they are procrastinating in laughing and appreciating. : ) Now in this case, I don't know if that's really the case of the reactions (or apparent lack of). We only know what got edited into the video. Maybe they were laughing but we could not hear it in the video, etc.
no you don't because you just aknowledged it and let it pass ;) thise are steps to her method ;) if all you can do is catch yourself, do it. We all have to start from somehwere. baby steps. ;)
I didnt hope this kind of speech from high school student. She was above my expectations. She is very wise and focus on good point about procrastination: emotions. She is right, if we can manage our emotions well we can be successfull in every area of life. Politicians and scientists discover this point. Social media effect our norosystem and handle us via our emotions thats why we are addicted. Good speech..
I understand why the crowd was quiet... Her image (she doesn't look "dominant" enough for A-type personalities), her commercial-like delivery, and it took her 7+ minutes to get to the good stuff. It's an AWESOME VIDEO, so thank god it was taped for those who appreciate it.
Nice bullshitting bro. A or B type personalities don't exist (it's just high or low conscientiousness), and it doesn't make sense to talk about A/B personalities if you aren't going to talk about coronary heart disease.
what an amazing and engaging speaker! even though the audience lacked any emotion, she still stood confident and delivered her speech in a wonderful way. as an aspiring young public speaker, i take much inspiration from her :) bravo!

This is an excellent talk. Congratulations, Archana! You speak very well and your ideas are original, wise, insightful, and intelligent. Just ignore the negative comments on here. Haters will be haters. They cannot stand excellence in other people, especially from a woman of color. You have a very bright future ahead of you. Keep aiming high.

I ardently believe in Krishna. Right now I am facing this serious issue of procrastination and i guess this is the thing i really need. This is the video everyone who's procrastinating should watch. 👏👏👏
It was much better than I expected, I thought it would be like hundreds of such videos, but I got something which I haven't heard anywhere. The idea of doing your work without expecting result or consequences is something that will put off the stress related to procrastination. May be it will help me much better than the number of books I have read on procrastination
Excellent talk. Super helpful. You have no idea how bad my procrastination became. Even the thought of work makes me feel stressed and afraid. It's so unrational, especially for me being a very rational and confident person. But it's indeed a very subconscious process that I find hard to break. I will try your methods immediately. thank you so much. I'll update this thread with my progression.
Thank you!! Murthy, you are an excellent speaker🙏 Being a chronic procrastinator I have gone and am going through the dread of deadlines. I just can't get myself to work.
I loved it it was so true!!! And you know one thing that got me was that it was like I knew this all along,I knew that those times which I didn't procrastinate was because I didn't think of the result and I didn't do it just to get to the result !! It is such an inspiring video, thank you .
Last and final thoughts --- just wanna say, Archana, you are truly inspirational. Though I am a Christian and have different beliefs than you, I believe we meet on several things eye to eye. First of all I just want to say, you are a very, very gifted public speaker. You know how to captivate your audience with your engaging way of using the art of language. You organized your speech in a way that I think I learned in my speech class, with a hook/visualization component, tying it to your main message, and ending it off with a call to action. I also saw your usage of hand gestures, pauses, and different cues that led your audience along your speech. You also didn't pace back and forth, which can sometimes be distracting. (Sometimes it can be engaging if done a certain way; however, it is not necessary.) You could make a huge difference in this world if you used this gift continually. Like I said in a previous comment, I pray you come to know Jesus Christ (in His timing.) I will be praying for you for I believe that is how I can show appreciation to you. I know, you don't even know who I am, but just know this: Jesus Christ knows your name for He created your inmost being in your mother's womb and his thoughts for you outnumber the grains of sand on the seashore.... (Psalm 139.) If there was a God out there who was so loving and beautiful like this, I am sure you would want to know Him. I know you know there is a God, but knowing who God *truly* is is crucial in this fleeting life. All those who seek shall find. To all those who knock, the door shall be opened. And all those who ask, shall receive.
May Divine Lord Sri Krishna bless Archana richly for extracting a sacred gem from His holy text Bhagavad Gita for our wellbeing. It is amazing a very young lady has had such a profound glimpse into an eternal truth. Certainly, God's Grace is with her. Thank you very much. It helped me to write this comment on a 'here & now' basis by not allowing procrastination. God bless all including the audience!
There are five guidelines she shared in the video. 1) Set the goal 2)Be positive 3)Acknowledge and reflect on your own feelings. 4)Feel grateful. 5)Record what happened.
It was really great. Well, I was also told this method by my mentor but the I could not start the only problem was that I thought stress may help me perform better so i did not avoid it.This time, I will do this and there would definitely be a great outcome.
I think she deserves a better audience.
Oh my god, does she ever?
You cant just appreciate things...that's it..
You right, shes so active, i love her. But the audience likes a zombie
I think it's the noise cancellation that's blocks the sorrounding noise.
Perfect
Inspite of getting no reaction or response from the audience she continued with the same energy and smile. Mad respect for her. Bravo to you girl.
I wonder how many of us are procrastinating by watching incredibly important and lifechanging TED videos...
Don't. Go. There. ;)
It was actually useful
Shut up, this is too important to ignore.

Maybe because they are trying to focus and learn someting and they understand this is not a stand up comedy routine.
It was bit funny

Completely agree.
Very vibrant speaker- she's def going places
good talk, tough crowd..
I was just about to say the same.
verticostate yeah, they all looked so judgmental and mean.
There is noise from crowd but the mic is not picking it up well.
verticostate no doubt I can't imagine looking into those faces
verticostate could be interpreted as a tough crowd or maybe they were just taking it all in. Then again does it matter? What did YOU get from it?

Archana, you're one of the best speakers I've heard, you look sincere. It was a good choice to keep going in spite of the audience

This is awesome - 'if I avoid work it will bring stress and anxiety' nailed it.
