    Hi John great video! How many CLEP exams did you take? How many college credits did they get you? I was also wondering if was it easy to make friends and everything because I was thinking of taking a very similar path to you, doing APs, Cleps, dsst's, and all the other good stuff. But one thing that I thought about was will my time at college be fun and will I enjoy it the same way as I would if I did the regular 4 years or if would it not really make much of a difference if I graduated in 1 year. I plan to major in health sciences and plan to go to med school after. What would your advice be?

    I feel like in order to do this one has to be an extremely dedicated person. For example some people (Like me), would simply be unable to be dedicated enough to finish such a plan.

    • @John_Zheng
      @John_Zheng  25 днів тому +7

      Dedication is definitely a key factor if you're aiming for graduating in a year.
      You also don't need to be exceptionally dedicated to benefit from trying one of these programs. Taking one CLEP exam could make a difference.
      You're already putting effort into school, so setting aside some time to prepare for some of these can be manageable.
      From there, you might find the motivation to keep going

    Hey, I was already interested in self studying AP’s next year, but I have a couple questions for you. You said self studying was easier than most people say, but what scores were you aiming for? Just a passing 3, or were you going for 5’s? Secondly, could you share the routine you used for studying? You said you spent about 3 weeks per AP, but how many hours per day? Thirdly, what APs would you personally recommend to self study?
    Thanks!

    • @John_Zheng
      @John_Zheng  22 дні тому

      I aimed for the passing score. You don't have to be a perfectionist (i.e., "I need to get a 5")--if a 3 works to get your credits, then it takes the pressure off. I typically aimed for a minimum of a 3, but would also score higher.
      My routine was a lot of deepwork sessions. If a subject had 14 chapters, it would take me a day to get through a chapter.
      Meaning, in 2 weeks, I would master the material. Read through it, do practice questions, review, do free online exams, then I just got it out of the way.
      There are a lot of easy AP exams--I'd say Psychology and Economics are pretty simple to start with. Most Uni will require them. Plus, passing these will help you spiral into keeping the momentum going

    Kinda off-topic questions, but still:
    1. what software did you use for infographics?
    2. Your journey is truly fascinating, but would this work for international students?

    • @John_Zheng
      @John_Zheng  24 дні тому +1

      Canva :)
      And for international students, depending on where they’re going for university. I’d say it’s a possibility if you’re aiming for a US university/college that allows the transfer of these credits.
      Say you were to attend University of Minnesota Duluth… they accept these credits. I’d be shocked if they disqualify students just because you aren’t in the US.
      But also something to verify/research with any school (send them an email and they’ll confirm).

    If you graduated from HS, years ago, U can earn credit only with CLEP and DSST? For example Business, the amount of course are limited

    • @John_Zheng
      @John_Zheng  25 днів тому +2

      Yes, those tend to be the options that you can explore. However, there are also internship credits and other work related opportunities. I recommend Macro or Micro Economics and Principles of Marketing for CLEP if you are going for a business degree. Research projects could be another method to get more credits and may also come with a university scholarship.

    Hey John, this video was amazing. I've been looking into this method for a while now, but there are some gaps that I don't know about yet. I just finished my freshman year in HS, but my school only has a few AP courses and gatekeeps dual enrollment until the 3rd year (even then, you can only take a limited amount). Also, my counselor said the school does not allow students to self-study AP courses that the school doesn't offer (which defeats one of the purposes of self study). How did you get started, and is there a way to get around these restrictions?

    • @John_Zheng
      @John_Zheng  21 день тому +2

      Wow… the blatant lies you were told o_o (or, the counselor doesn’t know-which could very well be the case).
      You can ALWAYS self-study AP exams. Even if your school doesn’t offer it, you can do it on your own. You can actually request your school to facilitate an AP exam if they don’t offer it-I had my school do my AP Macroeconomics since it wasn’t offered (this is just the exam). If they intentionally resist, schedule it with another school that offers AP exams.
      Again, HS doesn’t want you to do dual enrollment since they would lose funding. Sometimes they say it’s only 3rd year, but in reality, you can do it sooner… what state are you in?

    • @tacticalmanx759
      @tacticalmanx759 21 день тому

      @@John_Zheng Thanks, I appreciate the very swift reply! I am in PA, but the school is a private school (public schools around are not very good and are located in a bad area, scholarship was also a factor) and the school told me that self-studied AP exams can only be taken on the school campus (hence the "you can only self-study AP exams we offer" reply I received). They claimed they couldn't proctor exams for courses they don't offer. I also tried asking a few months earlier if I could take it at another school, but they said they didn't know of any that would allow me.

    • @John_Zheng
      @John_Zheng  24 дні тому

      Thank you! Verify with your HS, but yes, typically if you are proficient in a subject, you’ll free up that time.
      But, (as an example) in the event where you can get college credits for Economics, and the HS still requires you to still take Economics, they have their sh*t backwards

      You can finish a decent amount. I’d look into dual enrollment options, and knock out some easy self-study exams for college credits
      That can easily get you 1-1.5 years out of the way if you’re committed
      Even if you start college, there are other strategic ways you can condense down time/money by leveraging self-study, credit-by-exam, enrolling in community colleges nearby that transfer - I was able to assist one of my college buddies to finish 2 years early by doing this

    Hello, I am a high school student who is interested in going into pre-med. Would you recommend completing major requirements while in high school, or should this be done while at the university I plan to attend? Do you know if universities have a cap on the credits they accept? How would this early graduation route impact my admission into medical school/graduate programs (especially high-ranking programs)?

    • @John_Zheng
      @John_Zheng  26 днів тому +3

      Really depends on the university-
      Some will cap credits you can come in with. And I haven’t seen it impact med school. Med school admissions are its own thing entirely…
      You can graduate early by knocking out gen ed/liberal arts and do your specialized/higher-division classes at your university
      I did pursue major requirements in HS, but again, it’s up to you and what your goals are :)
