In 1999, I went to Horseshoe Bend. Somewhere between 1pm-3pm in the month of July. There was only one other person during that time. No fee either. The best experience I had in Paige was taking a guided tour on the Colorado River from the base of Glen Canyon dam to Lee's Ferry. Spectacular adventure. Also, take a guided tour to Rainbow bridge on Lake Powell. Do it!!!
That's awesome! Things used to be very different there for sure even when I was there a few years ago compared to now. Thanks for the tips! I'll have to do those tours next time I'm there!
Thanks for the guide! Planning on going to page next year and this is super helpful!!! I'm really looking forward to seeing antelope canyon in person. I've seen photos for years of it and have always wanted to go.
A couple of tips (I've been to the Wave etc. multiple times), very familiar with area. The Wave hike is much more than the Wave. Be sure to plan a whole day, 10+ miles. Climb above the Wave and also climb one up some of the large rocks you pass on the way in to the wave. I found a small pond on top of one and some Wave like patterning of erosion. Houseboats are the big thing on Lake Powell. Alton Point overlook is a great one. on Lake Powell area. You missed all the really beautiful spots...just as well. no need for beginners in most of them. Coyote Buttes is large. There of many hikes besides the Wave Escalante/Grand Staircase is chock full of amazing hikes. One of my favorite days was a solo hike all day long on Yellow Rock. Not nearly as ornate at White pocket or Cottonwood cove, but somehow just a really superb location. Remote. A close and easy access hike are the Toadstools. Just barely off the road so very quick and easy access between Page and Kanab. If you explore Escalante or Vermillion along House Rock Rd, believe the signs that they get impassible when wet. Stay out of Wire Pass and other slots on days with rain in the general area. Remember flash floods can start well upstream. Carry food, water (lots) and a shovel in a 4WD high clearance vehicle to access places that are remote, or if you don't know much about the desert, hire an experienced guide to take you I've photographed various sections of Antelope. That is one that I would put low on the tourist list. I got to wander around for hours by myself in that slot, but those days are long gone. If Antelope is definitely your deal, then remember the light beams are only in summer at midday. Make reservations for a photo tour accordingly. Enjoy!
I was just there last week. We rented a JetSki ride Lake Powell marina and we headed out to lower antelope Canyon. It was not crowded and it was simply amazing. I hope this sheds some light on some people.
hey, could you please share more info about the rental company ? Please share the link. What was the price per head? We are planning a trip there and all we see are kayak rentals online?
@@soniyasharma8784 We went to Lake Powell resorts and marinas. The phone number is 888-896-3829. I had some friends recently go there and they ran out of the waverunners. Which I highly recommend.. see if you can reserve one in advance. I hope this helps. Have a great time you’ll love it
We paid approximately 245 bucks for four hours. It was worth every penny. My only recommendation would be to make sure you keep an eye on the time when you return them. Because there are two time zones over there because you were close to Utah. There is an hour difference. So I returned my WaveRunner one hour earlier. Lesson learned put a timer on it and don’t rely on the time that it actually is.
I've been reading about the severe drought in the Southwest. Did you find that the lower water levels in Lake Powell affected boating and other activities much? I will be visiting the area in September, so I'm curious if they will still be offering cruises, etc. on the lake.
@@newenglandlight8724 I did not experience that. The water is pretty deep. You will have an amazing time. Bring sunscreen and lots of Chapstick. And be aware of the two time zones in northern Arizona. Because you’re close to Utah. And they have their own time zone. In case you are renting a WaveRunner. And you don’t return it an hour earlier like I did. Because I didn’t pay attention to the different time changes
Antelope Canyon - theres also Canyon X which has both the V shaped and the A shaped parts, it's cheaper and less crowded and you can get some really good photos
Unfortunately most major things in Page aren't free. Horseshoe bend has an entry fee but no tour. Antelope canyon cannot be done without a tour. The glen canyon dam overlook is free and is a nice stroll. There is a new spot that is fairly unknown and can be a neat place to see though I don't think it has a name. I'm working on an updated Page video to include this spot hopefully soon.
Thanks for a great informatory video; well structured and prioritized. As a non-native English speaker, it would help if all names were written/listed like in other videos instead of only mentioned verbally 😊
Thank you for great video. How did you get the chance to visit vermillion Cliff. I tried for months and still could not visit the place. Rest we had great time in Arizona. We could go to Antelope, Horse shoe band, Glen Canyon and dam. Over all it was worth the time
Are you talking about the wave and getting a permit? It's quite tough indeed and requires getting pretty lucky on their online lottery system or going early for the chance at an in person permit. The rest of the vermillion cliffs national monument does not require a permit and can be accessed via highway 89A.
Reservations to explore outdoors... only in the U.S. I swear. Thanks for the video... we are going next week, but it sounds like we won't see much. I'm glad we got the heads up from your video.
The Wave is a major want for photographers. The first time I was in the Page area in the early 1980s, there was practically no restriction on location access, apart from the hike being a bit of a challenge. For reasons I later regretted, we skipped The Wave for other locations. In later trips, the major restrictions on the number of daily visitors and the uncertain ways available to lock up a hiking reservation make that trip nearly impossible to plan, as he notes. The Antelope Canyons no longer permit photo tours or any practical photography, apart from being packed with tourists to clog your photos. If you want to just walk through, it's like waiting in line at Disneyland. If you want to take photos, forget it. I am thankful that I "been there, done that" at these locations before they were turned into commercial tourist attractions. Having destroyed Upper and Lower Antelope for photographers, they "developed" Canyon X in the same area. It presents a decent option for tourists and photographers alike, without the crowds.
Thank you! Contemplating a visit. Waited too long, I think. It’s been since early 90’s. Want to take my family there now, rent a houseboat, tow our motor boat. Then I see Lone Rock is completely exposed and literally feel nauseous. 😢 Thinking Summer ‘23. Now or never, right?!?!?
Wow thanks for that info! I was not aware of that. I wonder if that's a permanent change. That would reduce the amount of people in the canyon at any given time which may be beneficial for photos. Thanks again!
@@hoangpham it looks permanent. They have a video on their page that shows the whole walk. On the far side they built stairs and catwalks to get you back over the hill to the entrance. I've never been there, so looking forward to it.
@@Remo121212 Wow interesting indeed! I think that will help alleviate some of crowdedness inside the canyon so hopefully it's a beneficial change. Thanks for that info!
Denver is a great place! I'm going to Kenab, UT in a couple of weeks for a photography conference. I've been looking around the area for things to do. Glad I found your video. Lot of great info. Hoping that I can still do a photography tour of Antelope Canyon. I found a tour company that offers it. Gonna call and check before I book it, Thanks again!
That's awesome! Super jealous! I have heard that they have since implemented the photography tour back for the Upper Antelope Canyon however to my knowledge there is still a no tripod rule in place. Let me know how the experience is!
I'll admit I did not take that drone shot. Got it from storyblocks from someone who took it pre 2017 when the banned drones there. Now it is very strictly no drones haha
People go to Horseshoe Bend before they open in the morning and fly their drones. Very many people. When I was there, there were 3 drones doing that before the place opened. This was about 3 years ago with the no drone sign there.
It was great tips. The only recommendation I have is that would be great if you the name of the places on the screen. Beside that it was absolutely helpful tips!
Great video! Visiting Arizona next week and looking forward to visit Page. Do you know if Antelope Canyon id opened already? Do I need to book a tour or there’s tour agencies near the canyon that you can book for the day?
That's awesome! Antelope Canyon is open currently and you do need a tour to go into Antelope Canyon. It is best to book online in advance to make sure you have a spot and time as they do run out of spots frequently. Tours for the lower antelope canyon are separate than the upper antelope canyon.
great work you put together. do you have suggestion on camera setting for upper antelope canyon with tour group that means without tripod? i noticed you have a Sony in your video, i tried the Sony but its auto ISO keeps at 3200 while using manual setting on shutter( b/w 1/60- 1/250 s , because no tripod.)and aperture( F/4-5), will this work inside the canyon?
Those settings should be fine. If you want a lower ISO make sure to shoot in RAW and you can get a lot of detail out of the shadows in post. The canyon is very dynamic with changing light conditions quickly and with every turn so it can be challenging but you should have time at each spot to stand still and take several shots so you can try different shutter speeds to make sure you have a good shot. In the lower antelope canyon I was able to get away with F4, 1/100 shutter, and ISO 500 handheld. I also did bracketing where the camera takes several photos some over and some underexposed to merge in post into an HDR image to maximize the detail. Hope that helps!
@@hoangpham thanks, but ISO 3200 shows too much noise. i know it shall be under-exposure for better chance, but i dont understand why sony camera keeps suggesting at ISO3200 such high level. what post processing software do you use for bracketing?
I did plenty of handheld bracketing in the lower antelope canyon. Handheld each shot might not be perfect but as long as the change is minimal between shots, then your software in post should be able to merge it just fine. I mainly use lightroom to edit. The canyon itself is very dark so the camera with auto ISO is probably trying to bring up the shadows. If you want to use auto ISO you can reduce the ISO max limit. Which camera are you using?
@@hoangpham alpha 6000 as it has the same size CMOS chip as with other Sony cameras, and i will do manual mode anyway. i have a 8-16mm F/4.5-5.6 lens. thanks,. wow, i am not as confident as you are on handheld bracketing. someone was suggesting to hole camera leaning against the wall/hard place) for doing such bracketing.
Thanks for the tips, excellent video. We are going to Page next week. We have reservations for the lower canyon. Tours are limited to 50% capacity due to Covid so we're hoping it won't be quite so crowded. Also, I noticed you had some drone shots of Horseshoe Bend. Did you have any problem flying it there? Technically drones are off limits in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and the Navaho Nation.
Hopefully it won't be crowded! Antelope canyon is so great. The drone footage was from a long time ago before the drone ban was put in place. Now it's completely off limits to fly there.
You can no longer fly a drone in any of these spots in Page. The drone clips of Horseshoe Bend are really old, before the current railings and infrastructure were built.
If You'r arround Arches, or from Page to Arches, You must take a trip to For corner point, and take iconic picture of You, with each of Your leg and hand in diferent country. I have that photo, baut I don't know, how to post it.
The tours are closer to 2 hours logistically. You can do both in the same day. The Upper Antelope Canyon tour is more on time, the Lower one can be delayed due to congestion in the canyon. You could also do one of the tours in the morning before you leave. Personally I would do the Upper and Horseshoe Bend on one day, then the Lower canyon the next morning.
@@hoangpham yes, and scary for those who are staying in the area. Their choices, but I would choose to move. Lol. The donut cove is almost dry now. But still beautiful to see.
They are near each other. Lake Powell is the reservoir area behind the Glen Canyon Dam. Horseshoe Bend is a bit further down the Colorado River past the Glen Canyon Dam.
@@marychieng2553 Upper Antelope Canyon is a kid friendly hike and is about a half mile. You have to go with a Navajo tour group and the pace is slow to allow everyone to take pictures. It is very flat and easy.
Yes you can! You can either rent one or take a tour boat down the Colorado river. You'll have to start elsewhere and make your way to horseshoe bend as there is no location to get in a boat at the bend itself.
I think it depends on what kind of experience you want. If you want to see the more popular canyon with a chance at seeing huge light beams then the upper canyon is the way to go. However it is very crowded. Canyon X is a more personal experience where you can more easily get photos without people, atleast compared to the upper antelope canyon. I think the upper canyon looks cooler and for photographers this is a must see and I think canyon X is less stressful and a more enjoyable experience. Hope that helps!
It depends on how you like to travel. A group tour will make it easier and less stressful. If you go by yourself it requires more planning but you have more flexibility. There's nothing wrong with going on a tour group!
It's a shame these things become so focused on money that it detracts from the experience of everyone, especially photographers. I've been waiting for over a decade to come out here, only to learn there's no way I'm going to get the shots i've been dreaming of. Nobody wants to see crowds here, they want to see nature.
It is true, popularity is a blessing and a curse. If you want the iconic photos I would suggest going during off season and during the week to maximize your chance at getting that dream photo.
i just get back from lower canyon today. I don;t suggest bring expensive equipment, there are sands falling onto you all over. tiny sands will get into your gear and you will regret it.
this is not true. a quick search of visiting the wave without a permit and you will see there are fines along with posts of rangers patrolling the area and checking for permits.
@@Harris-uu2fy I saw no rangers and enjoyed the experience very much. Also, I 'forgot' to bring an ID. They have no legal right to cite you for being on public lands. None whatsoever.

Good video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can you fly a drone there? i tought it was not allowed haha. im going in a few months
want to bring mine
You can no longer fly a drone in any of these spots in Page. The drone clips of Horseshoe Bend are really old, before the current railings and infrastructure were built.
If You'r arround Arches, or from Page to Arches, You must take a trip to For corner point, and take iconic picture of You, with each of Your leg and hand in diferent country. I have that photo, baut I don't know, how to post it.
True, that's a great spot to stop by especially to or from Arches!
Going here in May!
Awesome! Hope you enjoy it!
I am going there in July. Driving from Texas to Canada and on my way back, I will pass through Page.
That sounds like a fun trip!
We have limited time and only 1 night in Page (late September)…do you recommend taking both tours same day? Both tours are 1 hour each?
The tours are closer to 2 hours logistically. You can do both in the same day. The Upper Antelope Canyon tour is more on time, the Lower one can be delayed due to congestion in the canyon. You could also do one of the tours in the morning before you leave. Personally I would do the Upper and Horseshoe Bend on one day, then the Lower canyon the next morning.
Thank you! Is the horseshoe bend area open for sunrise? I believe sunrise is around 5:30 am. I appreciate. Again, thank you. Terry
To my knowledge, the parking area for Horseshoe bend opens at sunrise. The sun will be behind you if you are facing the canyon.
Thank you so much! I read online opens at 8AM….I sure hope it is open! I appreciate
Can’t wait to go once the world gets back to normal
Yup, hopefully soon!
Lake Powell is very low. Lake Mead is gone.
That's so sad! 😭
@@hoangpham yes, and scary for those who are staying in the area. Their choices, but I would choose to move. Lol. The donut cove is almost dry now. But still beautiful to see.
Hi, do you have the page where I can register for the wave hiking?
You can find the permits by searching for "The Wave Permits" and looking for the Coyote Buttes North Permit on the recreation (dot) gov site
Great video!
Thank you!
What is difference between horsebend and lake powel? I thought they're the same thing? Thanks
They are near each other. Lake Powell is the reservoir area behind the Glen Canyon Dam. Horseshoe Bend is a bit further down the Colorado River past the Glen Canyon Dam.
@@hoangpham thank you for ur respond. Is Upper Antelope kid friendly hike? Is it flat and how far?
@@marychieng2553 Upper Antelope Canyon is a kid friendly hike and is about a half mile. You have to go with a Navajo tour group and the pace is slow to allow everyone to take pictures. It is very flat and easy.
Saved me!! Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Have you been to X yet? How's does it compare to upper and lower?
I've wanted to go but I haven't been to X yet. I've heard it's great and much less crowded compared to upper and lower.
Can we go in horse shoe bend river by boat?
Yes you can! You can either rent one or take a tour boat down the Colorado river. You'll have to start elsewhere and make your way to horseshoe bend as there is no location to get in a boat at the bend itself.
whats ur verdict antelope canyon X vs upper canyon? My trip is last week of august this year
I think it depends on what kind of experience you want.
The Wave is not in Page , it is in between Page and Kanab, Utah
Hi, i am plaining to take a guide and a group tô go with me….
Ia better than go by my self by Car?
Thanks
It depends on how you like to travel. A group tour will make it easier and less stressful. If you go by yourself it requires more planning but you have more flexibility. There's nothing wrong with going on a tour group!
Thanks a lot my friend
Great video., it’s so ashamed it’s been ruined by the whole tourism biz. Haven’t been, want to go, will never go😕
The Antelope Canyon looks amazing! I plan on going to both the upper and lower ASAP. Too bad it's so crowded
Dude enjoy it! If you can go during off season might be a bit less crowded!
@Silvia Hoard Usually the end of October through March is the off season and will have less people.
Has antelope canyon opened? As of last week still closed due to Covid
@@micheletomei3670 It is still currently closed
Это новое обновление на Аризона РП? Крутое зимнее обновление.
Thank you! We hope to explore it too. Lord Jesus please help us to depart from Georgia. We ask for strength and health to go exploring. AMEN.
I’ve just made your channel 1,000 subscribers. You’re welcome. 😊
Thank you! You are awesome!! 😃
Oh no so I light beams at 750 am tour for upper antelope 😔
you won't be able to see the light beams on the morning tours unfortunately
@@hoangpham I’m going to reschedule then for 12 ty so much for your video
@@marynduron You're welcome!
Because l am Navajo that is why
Wonderful information, thanks! However the background music is annoying and totally unnecessary.
Thanks for the feedback!
Good video. PLEASE invest in a gimbal. They are inexpensive and will save your viewers from feeling sea sick.
that's a fair point!
I agree with most of what you say, but in my opinion, Horseshow bend is NOT a must see, especially given the cost $10 to park there.
It's not the Rainbow Arch, it's the Rainbow BRIDGE.
You're completely right 😅
You need to correct your video! It is not a 27 mile hike to Horseshoe Bend. Seriously!?!
sorry if it was unclear, a "point seven" .7 mile hike 😂
Page looks like a great place to search for UFOs
never know what you're going to find
VERY NICE🥰🤩 I HAVE A CHANNEL TOO.
You don't need a permit to go to the wave. Easy to look up directions online.
this is not true. a quick search of visiting the wave without a permit and you will see there are fines along with posts of rangers patrolling the area and checking for permits.
@@Harris-uu2fy I saw no rangers and enjoyed the experience very much. Also, I 'forgot' to bring an ID. They have no legal right to cite you for being on public lands. None whatsoever.
@@majorpayne8373 you went to the wrong wave then
