Love the curvy/muscular look of these amazing sport cars of their times. That was true power with naturally aspirated engines and no exhaust note enhancements required. Thanks for sharing!! BP
I had an Interceptor III in the 70's: great machine, super comfortable, not really a sports car but a true Grand Tourer. Problem was I couldn't keep the engine cool.
The 2000GT is a masterpiece but it had a tiny interior...Connery was so tall they made a soft top version for the film as he simply could not fit into the coupe.
True. Deveopments in design and technology in both power trains and manufacturing seem to have really moved things forward while also improving fuel economy.
Love the Toyota. A 2-litre dohc 6, and it really screamed. The used one in an early James Bond flick, but Connery was too tall, so they had to cut the top off and make it the one-and-only CONVERTIBLE. Also the Jensen. It came with 383 or 440, and one year they even made it 4wd, for the ski crowd!
The guy running a $6 mill Ferrari around a race track must have some serious bank! Also saw the Toyota at a car show in Los Angeles, it's valued at over 2 mill and looks amazing.
@@howardmiller4127 The grand tourer that Studebaker made was the Hawk series, particularly the GT Hawk. The Avanti was just as much of a sports car as the Corvette of the period.
Good to see the Toyota and Mazda in this list. It's a pity that they weren't given as much credit in their day as they deserved. The Jensen is a very odd inclusion in this company - a list of touring cars perhaps, but not everyone would rate them highly. I'd not include the Porsche - in its original specifications the handling is best described as different, and the lengthening of the wheelbase did not make things much better.
I always thought that the Toyota 2000G.T. coupe was one of the most underrated sports cars of all time, though the car was very expensive to.build and the engines were made by Yamaha.
The info boxes are a bit approximate. For example, it gave specs for the Porsche 911 as 2.7 litre. The '60s 911 was 2.0 litre until August '69 when it went to 2.2 litre, and the 2.7 didn't appear until the RS of 1973, and ordinary road cars in '74. It takes only a few minutes on your favourite search engine to find this out, and people who watch your video will assume you are giving correct information.... Anyone who has driven a Corvette knows they have lots of power, but handling and stopping is VERY sketchy (like any US muscle car of the ;60s). Not a sports car. Nor is the Jensen , but it is a fine GT car of its era. There are plenty of others equal or greater cred as a GT but from greater marques But no small European sports cars? Lotus, Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Lancia, Healey etc etc made some great sports cars in the '60s. The Datsun 240Z is a fine car, and gets a mention in the comments but did not come out until 1970, so it doesn't count here
The corvette and cobra were much better drag cars they didnt handle well "AT ALL" The toyota a very small cartoonish Sports car. Just a little bigger it would be more awesome. Mazda Cosmo has a 1.0 liter (60 cubic inch) 2 rotor rotary engine that made 110 and later 128 hp, not a 1.9 liter (119.8 cubic inch), like you described. Your 'typo' error? doubled the displacement, That's like saying the 3 liter engine is a 6 liter. If you were more accurate, people could go, wow that little 1 liter 60 cubic inch engine from the 60s was an over-achiever, huh GO ROTARY

Would'nt have kept buying them if they were problematic . . .
Nope. The Ford 427FE did a bot moore than 416hp even in the mildest version. A friend and motorbuilder had one out for an overhaul. He benched the old worn engine to 500+
