      Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
      Another day’s useless energy spent.
      Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion? this is the best part of the entire song.

"Nights In White Satin" is their most famous song. Moody Blues are one of my favorite groups from the 60's-80's. Love their mix of rock with classical music. Lots of great songs such as "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "The Story In Your Eyes", "Question", "Ride My See-Saw", "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" etc. All of their music is great! Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once. Sadly Ray Thomas their flute player & singer passed away in 2018 & their drummer Graeme Edge passed away in 2021.

Moody Blues. These are the FATHERS of progressive rock -- and they kicked off the genre with _Days of Future Passed._ As a concept album it was a masterpiece, and "Nights in White Satin" was a fitting crescendo. First heard it in 1967, they re-released the single of "Nights" at the same time they released _Seventh Sojourn_ in 1972, and by then I was absolutely hooked. Admittedly there's a bunch of Prog rock bands out there that I revere, but Moodies is top on my list because they were the *_first_* -- none are going to top what the Moody Blues did for Prog; and to a man these five gentlemen's character and integrity were second to no man. The Classic 7 albums oughta get a Nobel Prize for Lit, ngl. The fact that it took as long as it did for these artists to get inducted into the R&RHOF was a criminal injustice -- and a shame Ray Thomas wasn't there to see it.

      @n4lra1 3 місяці тому

@@PhilAlumb Every generation experiences this cycle of being critical of each other. The older generation hangs onto the past, believing in their altered memories. The younger generation says, they don't understand us and we'll never be like them. We are going to live our lives for today. Truth be known, that older generation has forgotten what it was like, their experience of being young. The younger generation must face life's challenges, an uncertain future, each and every day. As the years pass by, they'll slowly, with time, become more and more like that older generation. The one they've been so critical of. It has been like this, for as long as humans have been on earth. The transition is inevitable.

I saw the Moody Blues live at UC Irvine in 1994 - the Kingdom Tour. Every song sounded exactly like the album version. One of the best concerts I ever saw.

Every band member played multiple instruments. layering tracks they sounded like full orchestra backing them on studio tracks. Truly amazing talented band. Live they always had an orchestra, most of their music was written to include an orchestra. They were spectacular live. Moody Blues and Pink Floyd were 2 of my favorite concerts.

I went to see them back in early 90s at an outdoor venue in Philly with lawn seats on a beautiful summer night. It was just so magical. Still think about that night when I hear their music.

This was my brother, Court's, favorite band. He passed away three years ago ON NEW YEARS DAY. He was on a pacemaker and only 15% of his heart worked and he was on a donor list. The pacemaker STOPPED either just before or EARLY IN THE AM. He was released from a week long emergency stay on NEW YEARS EVE.
I bought him tickets for his birthday in his thirties.
He was working on a car on jacks and an idiot "friend" kept sitting inside the car. My brother yelled at him to stop. He wouldn't, so my brother started to get from under the car, and he started to hear creaking as he was laying sideways, and the car came down and twisted his spine.
Even in excruciating pain, HE MADE THE CONCERT!!!
I worked event security and REALLY TRIED TO GET HIM BACKSTAGE.
He was HAPPY ANYWAY and kept yelling, "OWW!" as tears of JOY streamed down his face as he clapped wildly. WE WERE LAUGHING and I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT MOMENT. 👏🎉😂
I woke up around 1:45 CST and am sitting here laughing in my bed as I LITERALLY FEEL the lung cancer tha spread to up my spne and into my brain, MELTING away as I talk to him. We are connected SPIRITUALLY. NO LIE.
I AM ASTOUNDING DOCTORS AT VANDERBILT AND I WILL PUT TOGETHER PROGRAMS AND PACKAGES FOR CANCER PATIENTS TO BE BETTER INFORMED, PREPPED FOR TREATEMENT AND MAKE IT MORE COMFORTABLE AND NOT A SCARY EXPERIENCE AND IS CURABLE IN MOST CASES WITH PREVENTATIVE MEASURES, KNOWING SIGNS, TREATMENT, BEFORE/AFTER CARE, BETTER ACCOMODATIONS AND RIDES.
ANYONE CAN GET IT WITH NO HISTORY AT ALL.
I have come face to face with so many SURVIVORS who ARE CANCER FREE.
    MITACLES DO HAPPEN

This is special and so glad you've reacted to it. There's nothing being created as this and it's doubtful anybody has the talent or skill...Although, if anybody did the powers that be would squash it and refuse to record.
This is my favorite band of all time; the unique blend of Classical, Rock and a bit of Folk really appeals to my eclectic tastes. Can't count the times to have seen them with Symphonies, Orchestras and Philharmonics around the country.
The first time I saw them 'In Concert' they once opened with the tinkley music preceding 'Late Lament' recited in the Bassy-Baritone voice of Mike Pinder and he had to stop when the crowd went totally insane and nobody could hear anything. The Poem follows 'Nights in White Satin' on the Album; so this was different to place it in front of the song. After about 5 minutes of cacophonous ecstasy in having the privilege to see the band 'Live'; Pinder began again and you could hear a pin drop in the venue. It was one of the most outstanding openings of any band ever seen. SMASHING!!!
While my Mom introduced we kids to all kinds of music even before birth; I introduced this to her and as a Classical Pianist she was enraptured...
STILL ADORE THE MOODY BLUES. Justin Hayward was trully genius when creating this.

    Days of Future Passed.
    From Late Lament:
    Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy is spent
    Impassioned lovers wrestle as one;
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is grey is yellow white
But we decide which is right
    And which is an illusion

Justin Haywood write this song when he wasaout twenty. So to listen to him sing this song thirty years later and hear the emotion and passion he put into this song is a real treat. It reminded me of listening to Joni Mitchell’s latest version of Both Sides Now.
