I understand why people are confused because a lot was going on in this game. The taunt wasn’t about the late substitutions it was about the trick play before that. Basically SC made a fair catch like gesture (the t-bar signal) on the kickoff, then proceeded to lateral for a big gain. The t-bar signal is a gesture used to tell the opposing team that you’re calling a fair catch (technically didn’t make the fair catch signal though so it’s legal, just morally wrong)
It wasn't actually a big gain. A touchback would bring the ball to the 25-yardline, which is where they ended up anyway. This shows Bielema had a problem with the risk of injury not the outcome of the play.

In case anyone doesn’t know what the taunt was: The “taunt” had nothing to do with substitutions. It referenced something SC did during a kickoff. This rule is meant for safety (kickoffs are the most dangerous aspect of the game), and it is followed at every level of football. The South Carolina coach instructed his player to fake this signal - rather than wave, he merely lifted his arms to the sides. Thus, causing the Illini kickoff team to slow down (bc they think it’s a fair catch), and making more yards via a lateral play. I’ve never seen a team do this. At any level. Frankly, it’s dangerous and should be discouraged. In other words, the SC coach took an unwritten rule meant to protect players, and used it to gain an advantage. Illinois coach saw it. Let SC know he saw it. Then out-coached SC. Boss move.
Because of their superior "strength of schedule", the Gamecocks will only drop two spots in the ranking while Illinois will remain where they are because "they haven't beaten anybody"
Bielma answered in the post game interview. Apparently that t-bar sign is used on kickoffs to let players know it’s going to be a touchback. It is used to reduce full speed collisions that cause injuries on kickoffs. Apparently SC players were ignoring the sign and colliding with Illinois players in an effort to be physical and bielma wanted Beamer to know that he saw him them playing dirty but not illegally.
He may have said that but thats not what it was. That signal is what they do for subbing in. he was taunting him because beamer said something about him subbing in slowly which is penalty that the refs were not calling.
It should not be missed that Beamer came out on the field and slapped the injured Illinois player on the behind at the beginning of this interchange. That was uncalled for and probably set Bielema off.
announcer definitely not neutral since he provided no background for why the Illini coach gave a signal or how this was a taunt. a neutral announcer would have explained what was going on versus speaking like he was at a MMA fight. it appears prior to this SC was putting in late substitutions which by rule allowed Illini to substitute. just be honest SC was not substituting late to make the game fairer. They were trying to take advantage of the defense on the field. Illini returned the favor by slowly substituting which they are allowed to do causing SC to take time out. The rule was created to stop this type of action to unfairly gain an advantage. but when it is win at all costs. just hope the player is ok. And refs were nice not to call unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against SC coach. SC coach did not set a good example for his players.
That’s not correct. Illinois was making late substitutions the entire game to bleed to Gamecocks’ game clock. Illinois has a real shady character running their program.
Ilini was taking their time getting off the field after substitutions...way longer than 3 seconds, so who's at fault here. They are not allowed to slowly substitute, there is a 3 second rule to get off the field the refs were not going by. Which in turn puts SC in trouble with the 25 second clock. They are allowed to substitute like you said...but those coming off the field are not allowed to just take all the time they want.
Oh yes… this old argument. Gotta love it. Forget the fact that they recruit better, send more players to the nfl, have more championships. Oh and a down year for them looks like this. Three teams in the playoffs with two being legitimate contenders to win it all… they are not overrated. They have several teams every year that can win it all. It’s like if I said osu was overrated every year just because they don’t win it all. Nope they should be and are top 5 every year. Just don’t always put it together. Such a weak argument.

South Carolina was lucky to be in the playoffs, they should have lost to Old Dominion in the first game of the season. They got lucky to hold on. They never looked like a dominant team this year. Ended up with a good record but …. That’s all I got to say about that.
Same thing in ODU game. They got away with holding all night long but only had 5 fouls, and they piddly fouls. When ODU would start driving bogus fouls would be called. ODU scored in 4th to take 19-16 lead. SC got the ball deep in own territory and was stopped twice then phantom calls against ODU allowed drive to continue. They score , now 23-19. ODU gets ball at 20 yard line. Gains a lot of yards and driving, foul called, I think offensive pass interference, can’t remember. Puts ball back to 10 yd line, then next play another ODU foul, it was over at that point no time outs. 2 of ODU fouls came on last drive with a minute left. SEC did not want a Sun Belt team to win. ODU out played them and had more yardage. SEC, officials, and home field advantage, 3 against 1, can’t win.
Happen early in the game Illinois was sending players in late to sub after SC sub til the play clock was running out and SC had to take a timeout. Illinois got warm about it so the taught.

SO glad SC LOST...the coach DID just what he has TOLD his players NOT to do, "Do NOT lose your Temper in the game". Bad Example, let the Refs deal with it.

As you can see when the wild SEC fan loses in its natural habitat it tends to lash out with personal insults to protect its fragile ego from fear of being exposed
I think South Carolina should join the Big Ten, everyone else seems to be. That way they can play Michigan, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Ohio State, and Illinois every year. That way, the coach won’t have to worry about taunting, he’ll just have to worry about keeping his job. Go Hawks……..
South Carolina’s coach was complaining about these substitutions all game that made him use timeouts, so Illinois’s coach taunted him by doing the signal which pissed him off harder
SC coach did late substitutes trying to screw over IL and the IL coach realized it and took his time substituting his players (which is he allowed to do). If sheet head SC coach substituted early, this would not be an issue. but he is a whiner so.....
@allend807 The substitution explanation is the most common comment, but not accurate according to the coaches post game. The signal also refers to kickoffs which there also was contention about.
@@doctordetroit4339 they all allowed to do what they did wym. you can sub late just have to call a timeout when a coach abuses the rule. doesnt mean you should taunt the opps when your own player was waiting minutes for medical help

announcer definitely not neutral since he provided no background for why the Illini coach gave a signal or how this was a taunt. a neutral announcer would have explained what was going on versus speaking like he was at a MMA fight. it appears prior to this SC was putting in late substitutions which by rule allowed Illini to substitute. just be honest SC was not substituting late to make the game fairer.
😂 cope more
The spin zone.
ESPN announcers shilling the SEC. It was so blatant and so pathetic.
@@Demetrius_Ambrose "Late" substitutions? You're just telling on yourself that you don't know how the "new" substitution rules work.
The great SEC….how overrated you are.
SEC is actually becoming trash, The B1G is 👑
Dang nasty....
Congrats on being proud of your conference finally being better from the mid down.
SEC team will win the national championship acc conference sucks
Oh yes… this old argument. Gotta love it. Forget the fact that they recruit better, send more players to the nfl, have more championships. Oh and a down year for them looks like this. Three teams in the playoffs with two being legitimate contenders to win it all… they are not overrated. They have several teams every year that can win it all. It’s like if I said osu was overrated every year just because they don’t win it all. Nope they should be and are top 5 every year. Just don’t always put it together. Such a weak argument.
Highlight of any SC season is beating Clemson and that's extremely rare!
SEC always gets mad when the Big 10 beat that hasssssssss 😂😂
There’s more to this story that will come out. Many like me waited to see how the post game handshake went😂. It was calm though.
Bielma answered in the post game.
@ So he was just finding a way to “get even” so to say?
Not sure the announcer fully understands what ‘apoplectic’ means.
Not sure if you know what moronic means.... Here's the Webster definition of apoplectic: "overcome with anger; extremely indignant." For laughs, please leave your comment up.

Absolutely a taunt but it’s beemers fault for loosing his temper like that
Sometimes you can get your team fired up. I don’t blame him for trying. SEC was garbage this year.
You’re a South Carolina fan. You should know how to spell the word “losing”
Absoloootely!!!!! 🤡
Illinois coach got in Beamer’s head. SC had no response for heavy unbalanced formation.
But SC shouldve been in playoffs right?
yes
SEC softness on full display
Weird how everyone crying about this is totally fine with Beamer slapping the injured player 🤔
1 coach asked his players to use an unwritten rule to their advantage and the other coach called them out. Not that big of a deal
Poor baby,he was out coached period, typicall sec coaching ,playing on the fringes of the rules to gain and advantage, but was out coached.
Glad Beamer did this. Coaches should get penalties
You mean Beamer should be penalized?
Bizarre that Beamer was cocky enough to slap the injured player but then got triggered like a lib by a random hand signal 🤔
You misspelled MAGA
I have no idea what is happening after listening to the announcers describe this. Huh?
South Carolina was lucky to be in the playoffs, they should have lost to Old Dominion in the first game of the season. They got lucky to hold on. They never looked like a dominant team this year. Ended up with a good record but …. That’s all I got to say about that.
Did not see there wins then bud go watch the tape lsu game rigged and this was rigged
I thought SC was ripped in this game. They could have won this one. Obvious when no foul for taunting against the other coach.
Big Bret is savage 😂🤣😂🤣
The most clout Illinois will ever have. Team won’t be mentioned next season
Happen early in the game Illinois was sending players in late to sub after SC sub til the play clock was running out and SC had to take a timeout. Illinois got warm about it so the taught.
Well is there a time limit on substitutions?
@@JRJunior8624 there is none
@@JRJunior8624 yes its like 3 seconds
@@rustthelion8270 so you expect the defense to get on and off the field and in position in 3 seconds? How bout you don't wait so long to substitute?

The whistle hasn’t been blown but there is no reason to full speed collide with a return team blocker on a kick that is going to be a touchback.
These bowl games are getting out of hand
Awww boo hoo lil Shane got his feelings hurt, what a crybaby 😢
SO glad SC LOST...the coach DID just what he has TOLD his players NOT to do, "Do NOT lose your Temper in the game". Bad Example, let the Refs deal with it.
as the coach its his job to lose his temper rather than the players tf
To South Carolina's coach Beamer: want some CHEESE-itz with that whine?!?!
ESPN reporter was in the right place at the right time.
Taunting was dumb and so was the overreaction 🙄
It’s the Cheez It bowl. Relax
He just mad he lost
he hadnt lost at that point in fact took the lead right after
I didn't see the game, but how is the substitution signal taunting? I must've missed something.
ILL-INI
It’s not the rule….it’s that he “waddled” (moved very slowly because of his large body) in the direction of the other team and made the gesture (taunting) and then went to the sidelines for a burger and fries (he hungry).
At least his team was showing hunger. SCAR looked stuffed.
he was super stuffed and hungry
Scoreboard
...and then probably some champagne after the win.
As you can see when the wild SEC fan loses in its natural habitat it tends to lash out with personal insults to protect its fragile ego from fear of being exposed
Bielema gets to talk more! Go B10
Can some explain this I don’t get it?
South Carolina’s coach was complaining about these substitutions all game that made him use timeouts, so Illinois’s coach taunted him by doing the signal which pissed him off harder
@@FoxTube_Editzthank you!
Just another SEC crybaby coach. Maybe he and Kiffin can call and console each other.
So dumb! I don’t want to hear anything about players when coaches can act some immature.
Momma always said two wrongs don’t make a right.

Its funny because SEC fans taunted and made fun of Ohio State for losing to Oregon over the substitution delay & the B1G addressing it with new rules almost instantly. Bet you wish you did the same.
