- From May 18, 2013 through September 29, 2013, the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown has an exhibition featuring 11 artists. It is called "Creative Hand, Discerning Heart: Form, Rhythm, Song" and this film profiles the woodturner David Ellsworth.
David is one of America's most important artists in the medium of woodturning. A highly intelligent and prolific artist, he has invented many tools and techniques that expand the range of the medium.
His feeling for wood and nature is heartfelt and he shares his love with generations of students. he was a foounder of the American Association of Woodturners. When he was younger and in dire need of money, he sometimes employed his skills on the pool table to help supplement art sales.
He is one heckuva likable guy.
David Ellsworth was my sculpture teacher at University of CO in 1973. He was inspiration then and is still. This is a wonderful video.
Thank you so much Robin! John
Great insight to a very will know woodturner and his philosophy of woodturning.
An american legend. Love his gouge, best tool in my studio...
nice piece ...
wonderful film about a wonderful man
It is interesting to notice that he doesn't have any fancy face shield, no vacuum system (just a vacuum) and I didn't see any other shenanigans around. Only a great lathe.
