Jo'burg deserves something nice after what they've done to it..lived there for 17 yrs and it was awesome in the 80's!!..it's nickname was mini New York
All Electrostars use Bombardier MITRAC IGBT-VVVF; the only difference between this Electrostar and the British classes 357, 375, 377, 378, 379 and 387 is that said classes use 1000 Hz carrier frequency in asynchronous modulation, while Gautrain uses 550 Hz carrier frequency in asynchronous modulation, which can also be heard on the Bombardier MOVIA 456 (Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai, China), the Adelaide Metro A-City 4000 Class, Transperth B-series and QueenslandRail SMU220, IMU120 and SMU260/IMU160 (Australia).
Sud Africa, que orgullo deben sentir tener este tren para disfrutarlo !!!! y pensar que aca se llenaron la boca hablando de lo que ibamos a tener, y los bolsillos con lo que supuestamente iba a costar. O no Sr. Jaime ????, alcanzo a repartir bien ???
The train you are in has the standard British bombardier turbostar/electrostar doors and noise at the start of the announcement which is cool to see they use it in south Africa. The interior looks like the British version but the seats are very different
These are literally like a mix between our class 375s, 376s and 395s😂😂 The front looks the same as a 395, doors open outwards like a 375 and the layout inside and the seats mainly are the same as 376s, only difference is that 376s don’t have 3x3 seats... they sound very different to all of them though
This is a high speed train. If the trains in your country travel at 300km/hour or whatever, that does not negate the significance of the speed of this train in South Africa. It is the only one of its kind in the country. So for SA, this is a massive achievement. It's only up from here.
An Electrostar that sounds like an Australian Transperth B series / Adelaide Metro 4000 / Queensland Rail SMU/IMU260? Nice, but kinda strange for me who lives in the UK and commutes on the UK Electrostars which sound completely different to a Gautrain Electrostar! P.S. Great video 👍
Yes, it's the only Electrostar not to use 1000 Hz carrier frequency in asynchronous modulation unlike the British classes 357, 375, 377, 378, 379 or 387. This Bombardier MITRAC IGBT-VVVF with 550 Hz carrier frequency in asynchronous modulation can also be heard on e.g. the Bombardier MOVIA 456 (Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai, China).
we also have this in Malaysia... but i think this is a medium speed train.. not high one... btw.. it really nice isnt it?? better then driving a car that have a lot of congestion...
160kmph is 100mph. Thats standard and it is from the electrostar family. High speed trains run from 125mph. Very High Speed trains run from 186mph and above. It's misleading to call the Gautrain a high speed train. Sure it might look like one but it is a suburban commuter train like the other electrostars back here.
These are more advanced then the Melbourne metro, the Victorian state wide train services such as V--line are a lot like the American train service, but the metro service use basic electric trains like CBD England ones, compared to what Ove seem form Australian and America. The USA and Canadian train services use ALOT of desiel trains even form the metro.. Form what I've seen, while Australia's metro use electric trains, but nothing compared to the South African trains
Finally a good video of this! Canada doesn't have it because it was built in Derby, England. There based of the number of different 'Electrostar' trains that Bombardier built and keep building for the UK. Also 100mph is not high speed.
Looks like the Eurostar Class 370 and has the traction sound of the JR East E233 of Japan or the FE-07, the most recently train of the A line on Mexico City Metro (La Paz - Pantitlan City). Proud for South Africa from Chalco, Mexico, where the bunny is eaten in tacos.
@ 00:20 It is actually the British Bombardier company that built these in Derby based on the Electrostar family. OK so its owned by Canadian Bombardier but Derby is where it was all designed and built although some were shipped out CKD and assembled in SA.
Cool video! Have always wanted to visit South Africa and will no doubt be starting my time there in Joburg (and therefore on the Gautrain). Just one question, - which month of the year did you shoot this video?
@simpletimes222 That is the reality of it. For South Africans anything above 120km/h is high speed. ;o) That is our maximum road speed limit. This train is however long overdue and I cannot wait for the Johannesburg to Durban speed rail to begin and complete building. As somebody mentioned somewhere, it is currently in feasability phase.
Critics everywhere. 160kph is 100mph. 100mph is getting you there fast. Most Amtrak trains run at about 80mph. Eventually nations will acquire the technology to run faster and faster trains. Development takes time and time waits for no one.
Europe already has 320kph and bring even faster into service. This train is no faster than our 375/377 electrostars that run on commuter routes and are considered the norm.
I love public transport. Last week I took the lovely Gautrain from OR Tambo Airport to Park Station then planned to Uber. I would not recommend alighting at Park Station. Clearly an unsafe area. Area security spotted me and told me not to take my phone out. Strangers yelled warnings. Phone thieves abound. I am well-travelled but was gob smacked. Security got me an Uber. The Uber driver said he lives in the area and does not walk anywhere there. I thought I was wise. Clearly not. Be safe!
Is this Standard Gauge system planned to expand. It could form the basis of an intercity/intercontinental HSR network. Ethiopia and Kenya have Standard Gauge railways. So does Gabon
^^^ It may be the slickest thing in the world this Bombadier train, but there's an even better Bombadier train with new induction tech., meaning no overheard panto-graph's or wires. It induction cable is buried under the rails.
South London Railway Photography Yeah. But not always. Trains inside London are quite slow for example trains from London Victoria to London Bridge are quite slow aswell as trains from Waterloo to Staines and Feltham. But Trains to Brighton are quite fast. Also the GWML has some fast trains inside London. But further from London, I think some Electrostars go 110mph!
I’m from the US, so I’m not used to this sort of thing, but what is the man in the yellow coat riding the train for? I know it’s kind of a stupid question
its seems alot of the city trains from other parts of the world are a world of difference when it comes to cleanliness compare to the city trains in america. Like on here it almost looks like you can almost eat off the floor or window sills. On trains like the chicago CTA im afraid you might catch a disease just for touching the hand poles on there....yikes!
America's transportation system really sucks. It's not clean but it's not cheap either. But I don't get why so many americas still criticize asian trains (specially chinese trains). Maybe they think that their higher gdp will stay higher for ever😂 Spiler: it won't😑
So this is standard gauge (4 ft 8 1/2 in) instead of following the South African Railways 3ft 6in gauge? The new Chinese-built railway in Uganda and Kenya is also standard gauge instead of narrow.
The fact it the GDP was rising before 1994 as well. Maintaining is the key word you are looking for. Maintaining tar roads, rail roads en electrical grid systems that was already there in good condition. The only place where roads are properly maintained is the WCape. And the fact that the old government did not even need to borrow money like the ANC does to build new infrastructure while being sanctioned by the rest of the world while the ANC got donations from other countries says a lot.
This belongs to the Electrostar Family which all other types of trains are from the United Kingdom.Sadly,I live in Singapore which is in Asia and there's not a single Electrostar in there
That's cool that South Africa has a streamlined version of the british Electrostar trains!
I remember making those trains when i was an apprentice at the factory in Derby, England and reconise a lot of the interior parts too
it looks like a class 170
You're a expert of trains
@@smokinbu Well its an electrostar but seems like a higher performance one
It looks similar to class 377 and 170 because it was made in England
Love south africa from Algeria❤
Had the pleasure of taking this great service from the Airport to Hartfield last year on a recent visit from the UK.
Did you try the British Electrostars?
Jo'burg deserves something nice after what they've done to it..lived there for 17 yrs and it was awesome in the 80's!!..it's nickname was mini New York
Beautiful trains in south Africa. Respect from Ethiopia
@Lance Marcellus oh that's great💙 I'll try sometimes today
@Lance Marcellus oh that's great💙 I'll try sometimes today
@Jone Manary currently in the same country?
Ok
I respect you too brother.i wish Africa can unite one day
You can tell its a bombardier train just by looking at its just a cross between the class 170 and 377
And 376 too, it has 376 seats
And 375 as they are almost identical to the 377
A cross between a class 170 and 377 would be a class 357 but yeah, you can definitely tell it's a bombardier train by looking at the carriages
That's a nice train! Great video.
Lekker train.
Nice to see Africa's development.. cheers from India
One of the Best videos ever to be done about South Africa!!! I like the comments too.
Bombardier cool!!👌👌👍👍👏👏
Fantastic brother!👍👍👏

proud of S.A! keep up the good work
Here S.A is looking more developed than developing nations ,good to see this side of the country
GAUTRAIN IS THE BEST I LOVE IT VERY MUCH THE SEATS ARE COMFORTABLE TOO
Then I'm sure you'll love some UK operators like Southeastern and Southern as they have trains almost identical but with a different front
Sud Africa, que orgullo deben sentir tener este tren para disfrutarlo !!!! y pensar que aca se llenaron la boca hablando de lo que ibamos a tener, y los bolsillos con lo que supuestamente iba a costar. O no Sr. Jaime ????, alcanzo a repartir bien ???
Always enjoy it from Jozi to Tswane it's a pleasure to ride Goutrain. Please bring it to Durban .
The train you are in has the standard British bombardier turbostar/electrostar doors and noise at the start of the announcement which is cool to see they use it in south Africa. The interior looks like the British version but the seats are very different
The seats are actually in use in the UK, just only on the Southeastern Class 376 units
The 376s have those seats which is why they’re hated by many people, only difference is that there aren’t any 3x3 seats on them
These are literally like a mix between our class 375s, 376s and 395s😂😂

I'd like to take a trip on this one day, I'll feel right at home as my local trains are very similar :)
This is a high speed train. If the trains in your country travel at 300km/hour or whatever, that does not negate the significance of the speed of this train in South Africa. It is the only one of its kind in the country. So for SA, this is a massive achievement. It's only up from here.
This isn't high speed.
Man, the subway station looks very picturesque.

Power to all developing countries.....#india #southafrica #brazil
Chavali thanks 🙏
Woah looks a lot like our London Overground Trains apart from the front.
we also have this in Malaysia... but i think this is a medium speed train.. not high one... btw.. it really nice isnt it?? better then driving a car that have a lot of congestion...

you don't find that speed in North American metros
+eddiehosa fastest American train is around 150mph acela
David what we are simply saying is that its the fastest train in "Johannesburg" South Africa dear
eddiehosa no metros in the world operate at that speed thats dangerous
how fast do american trains like MARTA in Atlanta go?
So the media can show this type of trains somewhere but not when it is in Africa ? You must bow down your heads in shame so-called foreign media.
Great Video
Beautiful ❤❤❤😊😊
Nice video
Is this still 3 ft 6"? Noticed a bit of rocking in the few videos I watched. Based in Cape Town, has not had a ride in this train. Hope to soon.
Very nice video.
COMPARED TO METRORAIL GAUTRAIN IS THE BEST KEEP UP THE THE GOOD WORK

Canada needs this like in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal

This train is safe, unlike the other commuter trains, that's why.

Do you mean 373?
BEAUTIFUL!!!! Just Loved it!!! Such wonderful scenery. Is this a suburban railway or the Johannesburg Metro Railway?
Suburban

verry nice video
Bombardier is a Canadian Company with its HQ and major airplane and metro railway manufactuing facilities in Montreal, not Toronto.
Kuala Lumpur(KL) is using the driverless automatic Bombardier trains too for one of it's city metro lines ..
Washington DC to Miami Beach and another route thats from Jacksonville, Florida to New Orleans for beginners.
real nice. Would love to ride that train there.
Love u south africa
nice train ride my friend.
The train maybe designed by Bombardier, which is a canadian company, but the train itself is designed in the UK
When you visit that one friend from your group who moved abroad
The train sounds like the red line in Boston
Also sounds like Queensland Rail IMU 160/SMU 260
STOP TALKING ABOUT RACISM AND ENJOY THE VIDEO!!!! /:(
"No Begging, Loitering and Gambling Allowed".
Awwww, that's means i can't get on the train then.....
Wow this train looks like Airport Metro train in New Delhi India. Only the seat covers are of cream colour. Blue one looks nice though.
nice train

Commuter speed in sweden
160 kph
Regional trains
180-2000kph
High speed
200kph
Good service.
They look similar to the units used on the London Tilbury and Southend line.
it's the exact same
Thanks guys for supporting our corrupt country 😂😢

@ petter Clarke .why must everything be a tug of war??????
hey, where you from? You mention George and Knysna.. unfortunately we dont have our steam train anymore :(
HI WHAT TOP SPEED THESE TRAIN DO?? NICE I LIKED
nice video
That is very close to a British train because it has the same doors as BR class 377 / 170 And the Public address has the same beep noise
nice Train!!
WHY do I get a sense of Halflife in this? lol Interesting Stoooone formations!
This train is like... a 376 and a 375 put together. 375 exterior with a 376 interior and the front and back of the train is probably from a 390.
This is basically a spruced up version of a UK electrostar commuter train
^^^
It may be the slickest thing in the world this Bombadier train, but there's an even better Bombadier train with new induction tech., meaning no overheard panto-graph's or wires.
It induction cable is buried under the rails.
I swear I've heard these traction motors somewhere near me...
Class 800,801,802
321 Dustybin
And German class 442
*CAF FE-07* of Mexico City Subway
*JR East E233* of Chuo-Takao San-Kushi Commuter Rail
I am an Indian. Can I travel in first class in south African railway.
"We are actually going 155 km/h per hour!" Finnish and other european countries city trains go 160 km/h / 100 mph
not within the city.
trains don't go that fast in North America
In Britain this is the speed of our regional trains

MardenianGamer/MineSimulated There is ECML trains that do 100mph between Finsbury Park and Potters Bar.
Canadian train is one of the best train on the modern world.
This train is based off a British design
ive been on that train 2 times
AMAZING
These are very similar to the electrostars in the south of England
nice Train
how many second they've adjust from 0-100mph?
I’m from the US, so I’m not used to this sort of thing, but what is the man in the yellow coat riding the train for? I know it’s kind of a stupid question
security
The 377s brother!
Bombardier is in Derby England and this particular model of train is Electrostar
this looks exactly like the english bombadier electrostars from the side
its seems alot of the city trains from other parts of the world are a world of difference when it comes to cleanliness compare to the city trains in america. it's UK commuter train (literally. Google it, it's a Class 377/387 Electrostar)
HI It still does not beat the old steam loco's 4 looks only 4 speed
Yeah but remember this is the first Modern Standard Gauge line in SA. It is a precursor to High Speed Rail
These trains are nice but they don't sound like an Electrostar. They sound more like an Aventra
is it made in Canada or in England because it looks the same like the class 377 375 379 and 376
southeastern failways it's made in South Africa
@@ayandandamane2618 no it was made in derby in uk.
It was shipped from the UK to South Africa

It is not Canadian it is made in derby and if I’m very not mistaken this is a electrostar
This is Africa or England so same train model
This train it was build in England Derby depo
These trains were built in Derby, UK by Bombardier.
Those are BR Class 166/165 carriages (excluding the front and rear)
Nothing like a networker carriage, it's more identical to the 375/377
I don't even know where to start with a question like that...
