If fuel cap was on the left you couldn't put as much gas in becasue it leans to left on kickstand. Get more miles w/it being on right (high side)
Fill cap on the right is the higher point when the bike is on the kick stand.
Well, there it is. Logic is sound. Thanks.
I was about to comment on that lol, more gas is a must for me. If you dont like the caps well good thing they make the flush ones to replace it with. Ride hard, Ride free, Ride safe
I have a 16 with 6000 miles, I really dont ride it that much, but I love it,, I left it completely stock, I think its probably one of the best nostalgic looking bikes out there, I have it in Denim black, looks outstanding
Where are the fuses for the slim? I only see 3 fuses on mine
One good thing about the short kick stand, It puts more weight on the tires and less physical stress on the kick stand. I have seen them break with too much lean angle on them especially when the bike gets older and metal fatigue sets in. My stock 93 Lowrider has way too much lean angle that I have to place a one inch board under the kickstand to take off the weight/stress off.
I'm glad I got the 103 twin cam Softail Slim.
Why is that? Serious question
@@BourbonFirst It was really all about the opportunity to purchase a good used bike, with low mileage and with some custom bits at a good price. Mine is a 'charcoal denim' (ie matte paint), which really looks nicer than a gloss paint. I like the homage to the old style 'messenger' bikes, so the Slim ticks that box quite nicely with the bare-bones styling, spoked wheels & foot boards. The price I paid was about $7,000 USD under the price of a new one, so I managed to get a good Harley without sticking my neck on the line & buying a new Milwaukee 8 Softail Slim, because my wife would have not accepted that very lightly. My Softail Slim is a 'daily driver' ... so I'm not fussed about keeping it super clean every minute of the day, therefore it isn't a 'garage queen' by any means. But it's a case of 'each to his own' ... some guys probably wouldn't like the Slim and prefer another model. For me, it was the nostalgic styling of the messenger bike homage that was a big influence on my decision. I think the Slim is a 'modern-day' classic. Having said that, I really like the current model Fat Bob, Sport Glide and Road King Special. I can't figure out why HD have discontinued the Deluxe though.
Cheers from the south west coast of the island of Australia :)
Good to know. The Slim is on my list of bikes I would like to have.
It’s a great bike, but then again all the new Softails are excellent. Really come down to what fits you best. Thanks for watching ride safe!
2 things I hated about my 2018 Low Rider. The stock seat, crap for a pillion and the stock handlebars. Fitting Street Slammer bars fixed the riding position. I agree with you about the fake fuel cap, much more convenient if you could fill from either side.
I’m a motorcycle mechanic! To replace spark plugs on some sort Japanese bike is a real deal, you have to remove gas tank, the whole air filter unit, radiator you need unless removed the bolts and pull the radiator to the front, and some bikes you have to remove coils too on top of all these! That’s a real problem (sorry for my English)
There's a trick to those new stands. You put it on there while sitting then turn the bars right then left if I recall. They suck. The old one is great and looks better.
Thanks for the review. I can live with the issues you brought up. That scoot is still awesome. Not sure how often you'd need to change the plugs to be honest. I'd consider maybe (yeah another thing to buy) some after-market option for the kick stand? Why in the hell can't HD put decent grips on them? Oh, they want you to buy another set from them. Me, I'll just go to Dennis Kirk instead and get some Kuryakin Iso Grips....
If u think replacing spark plugs on the slim is troublesome, check out a maintenance video on an Indian scout. I don’t own one, I have my two sportsters, but to replace spark plugs, air filter, etc u have to remove the tank and separate the frame! If u don’t have a jack to do so, the frame in collapse on itself lol crazy stuff. Can’t wait to see the video on ur new pipes!
fLIMSY FEANDERS AND HARD TO GET TO PLUGS AND SPLIT THE FRAM...... IT SEEMS LIKE aMERICAN BIKES HAVE FINALLY GONE THE ROUTE OF jAPANESE DESIGNS!!!
I'm with you on the rear fender, cause my chopped fender on my 21 bob got real old real quick. Planning on a stretched rear fender along with a wrapped front fender this year as a winter project. Personally think a Klock Werks stretched fender would render its self well on the slim howbowdit.
Great video as always. Following. Subscribed. My wife owns a 2018 FXBB street bob softtail. Same story with the flimsy rear fender and rear lic plate holder. Glad im not the only one who is nervous about that kickstand. The kickstand on the XL883N iron and my XL1200X is way better. More lean angle. More peace of mind when leaving the bike. We got an extended 3yr warranty. As her last bike 2016 XL883L had a bunch of issues at 2yr mark.
I will say the 2018 FXBB is a great riding bike. 28.5 degree lean angle is great doesnt scrape. Very nimble. Gobs of power stock. But i feel you on the slip on decision , im a huge V&H FP3 fan it really unlocked my 2017 XL1200X. the screaming eagle tuner while nice it handles stI,II,III,IV, still seems weak to me, still in EPA regulation restricted. I would have loved to see you get on the throttle more or a ride vid to hear the rinehart slip ons.
Just hit the 500 mile break in Mark. So I can start to open it more was taking easy on the first 500.
Tony Cox right on, same here. Amazing powerband. How you liking the rinehart slip ons? Cant wait to unlock the full potential with fp3 and full exhaust, ram air hi flow intake
Kick stand is good. I've seen the shop drag these bikes forward and backwards across the shop on the side stand. They are solid.
ONE NICE FEATURE FROM THE hdS IN THE RECENT PASS IS THE 'RIDE OFF' STAND. i LEFT MINE DOWN A COUPLE TIMES AND IT WORKED LIKE IT SAY'S. iS THAT SIDE STAND A RIDE OFF' AS WELL?
i just bought one...Love it. fender seems fine to me. Totally agree about the license plate holder. I relocated mine under the fender. The gas caps are fine. Fill side needs to be on the high side. can't comment on the plugs. But that fucking kickstand..Cant see it, don't trust it. its just to damn short..Totally agree.
Your right about the jiffy stand, I was at a dealer and man I thought that SE Street Glide was going to call over. The owner said he's nervous as he'll every time he puts it down on the stand. Every bike does have some peculiar things you don't notice until you've spent some time on it. That's a sweet ride that I'm sure you will enjoy, tons of rain down here in Al as well. Getting out tomorrow, cabin fever haha.... Ride hard or stay home😎
Thank you, Jiffy stands makes me extremely nervous. I’m in KY and this spring weather so far has been terrible chance of snow tomorrow.
Tony Cox sorry to hear that, in the 60s tomorrow and 70-80s the rest of the week....Stay safe brother
Ride safe!
I told you my next bike is the Softail Slim. Pick it up Monday.😎
Congrats on the new softail!!!!! 🍻
Tony Cox Received $1500 from Harley. That sealed the deal. Absolutely love it.
These are some reasons I would NOT trade my 2012 Slim for an 18...Yeah, M8 good motor, but I will still take mine over the new ones. Traded my Heritage Softail for my Slim, and I think it is a better bike all the way around, and more comfortable. My Slim is 3 years older then the Heritage I traded it for. I dealt with the 4 plug issue on my 2000 Sportster Sport...those two extra plugs were a PITA!!!!!
Understand the tank grievance. With low fuel. The spark plug change is a two man job without removing the tank. One person lifts the tank and holds it as the other changes the plugs.
Plastic rear fender ??!! I can't believe it ! My 2011 Softail Blackline's (similar in shape) is made of solid metal...
Another point you could have mentioned is how hard it is now to remove the battery on the new softails due to the rear shock position...
Ride safe, dda from France
(I believe here the rear fender is metallic but I'll have to check this out...)
(I believe the rear fender
Oh it’s metal just very flimsy
Thanks for video. I’m strongly considering trading in my 2020 883 for Slim as you did. But i dont like forward controls. I’m abt 5’4” & feel more comfortable withs mids.
The kickstand do suck. It's too slight for a 675 lb. bike that is front heavy due to a 5 gallon tank. And, for 17 grand, one would expect a nice polished aluminum one that extends out past the floorboard. And, there have been no design changes from 18-20. They really just want one to buy a lot of extra change out shit...so they aren't factory modifying anything from year-to-year. My brother has a 19 Street Glide that gives me kickstand envy. And, they want us to buy one of those freaking plastic disk things for $50 bucks or whatever.
I have yet to have a problem with it, but still don’t completely trust it. Thanks for watching👊
the rear fender on my old ladies 18' deluxe does shake a lil bit...i agree. the deluxe handles ike a giant sportster as far as going in a corner, just a little more input for weight. the slim was more of a dip set up. Get a deluxe brother !!!
When I turn the key on my soft tail slim the dash just flashes on , off, what's going on
Thank you for the review. I just considering buy softail slim. is it recommendable?? it is gonna be my first bike.
Hope it helped
What was your OTD price?
I have the 2017 model and for me it was the seat, pipes and rear fender as here in the UK we have a large number plate on the rear...yuk
How is the lean angle? Harley’s web site says it’s 27.4 on the Softail Slim. I scrape my pegs pretty easy on my Sportster.
I don’t have much time on it yet due to weather but I haven’t scraped yet.
Hello, do you know if a 180 rear tire will fit on that bike without any modifications?
Thank you.
I don’t have an answer for that one. Sorry
OK, thank you for replying.
:) The one thing I hate about this video is only recording on the left channel. Lol
I know not sure what happened there! Mistakes where made.
Youonlyneeditwhenitmatters 1911
Me too. 👎🏻
this guy doing the vid is an idiot
Not sure what you mean about the fill cap being on the other side of the tank.
If that were my bike, I'd have to put the chopped rear fender and side mount plates as one things I dislike. To me the side mount plates and lights were an afterthought when someone built a chopper and had no room for the tail lights!!Why after 50 years of typical chopper design that a company would make that stock is beyond me. But that's just me, I'm sure it is something that drew you to the looks of the bike, I'm just an old traditionalist, riding a stock Road King Police!! CHEERS
And the grips, right? New sub here, looking forward to the install video for the new slip ons. Peace Brother.
Thank you
Changed to grip as soon as I got it. Stock Harley grips are awful
You don’t ride when it rains ? I ride in any weather except for icy roads and snow
I will, but not my favorite👍
That fender is goofy and kind of a disappointment. Are most of the Softails like that or just the Slim? I can't imagine a bike with bags like the Heritage or Sport Glide would have a plastic fender like that?!
Also, those hard to get to spark plugs would drive me nuts. Part of the fun of motorcycle ownership is being able to wrench yourself. It'd be discouraging to have it so difficult that I had to take it to the dealership just to change spark plugs.
It’s metal just super thin. Not sure about the others.
Getting the tank off isn’t that big of a deal, but for spark plugs really.
Tony Cox grabbing the fenders will be one of the first things I'll do on a test ride. I'll look weird doing it, but at least I'll know 😁
Great Egret I had a 2017 Fatboy, rear fender is substantial. I suppose anything prior to 2018, dunno for certain.
The back edge of the fender should have been rolled like they used to be.
you are right ,,, the kick stand is poor ...
It takes less than 10 minutes to remove the tank not that big of a deal. Nice looking bike by the way.
Hate takes to much energy brother. Dis liking is less stressful.
Hate is a strong word. I think in the video I said they could do better🤣
Does it have abs?
Nope, but it has some ass.
What about finding neutral?? My wife is having a hard time with it..??
It has seemed to improve as the bike breaks in. It is a little touch for sure.
I'm going to install a heal shifter to down shift. I'm also going to adjust front shifter control up. I find there isn't enough clearance between it and the floor board, but I do have a big foot.
Here's the fix for the chintzy license plate setup HD insists on using on the new bikes: www.customdynamics.com/amfinder/?cat=80&find=2018-softail-slim--flsl--728 An install video on one of these would be welcomed :)
Thanks, I will take a look 👀.
I don't own one. But i agree
so why would you title the video like that,, I dont agree with ANY of your observations, your picking,,trying to find stuff, not a good video sorry,
As far as i know, the gas cap on the left is filled with electronics.
The 2018 look like replicas ... sad
I think is too much chrome on it... could be darker, but I think it could be my taste.
