Pickman, eh? As in Lovecraft's story "Pickman's Model" about an artist who paints horrific things, then disappears? He had an involvement with ghouls, as well. Maybe the New England branch of the family mentioned briefly leads there.
The way you explore different sub-genres of horror within one story is refreshing. It keeps the narrative dynamic, and I never know what to expect next - whether it's supernatural, psychological, or a blend of both. I'm in for the ride!

This was an absolute treat! I felt the best goosebumps when the protagonist revealed his family name. For years, I’ve hoped to find more writers making stories in Lovecraft’s universe, and it finally seems like it’s happening! Your narration was amazing and the author used a wonderful pace of descriptors to keep the atmosphere. Wonderful~ If you would like some Lovecraft recommendations, you could do Pickman’s Model, which was the inspiration for this story. A lot of Lovecraft’s works are short, so you might want to do multiple short stories in one video. When it comes to reading Lovecraft aloud, there is a sort of odd cadence that his flowery word choice works well with, more like a form of poetry than prose at times. I hope you find some fun reads!
Yep, when I heard Pickman I had to check to see if our boy started reading Lovecraft on the channel. And, Somnium, if you're reading this, Pickman's Model (by Lovecraft) is, I think, this same story, as written by Pickman's penpal. The author is clearly a student of Lovecraft, I could hear it in his descriptions, like you've said. I'm glad people are keeping this more complex use of language alive, most of today's stories taste like plastic to my ears.
Good to see that you are integrating parts of Lovecraft's mythos into your works. Amazing. I've been listening since about mid middle school and now I listen in my first car as a senior in high school. In a sort of way, you're kind of like one of my closest friends. Much love to you and anyone who's reading🖤
Thank you so much for the long time support. And I feel alit of who I am goes into making the videos, since I was a kid I wanted to become a film composer and making music for these stories isn't too off from that in my mind, so I'm pretty passionate about what I do :)
Since I've already subscribed, you have to assume I've listened to to you before. I just remember them being different than these last two. The previous one and this one. I loved them, but couldn't help but wish I could see that 7X3 ft. mirror in the last one . My husband is an artist who just finished in October, with his last book, a 64. + page graphic novel, with the writer of many comic books, such as Badger and many many more from Marvel ,DC, & First Comics and more I believe, Mike Baron and my husband Pat Broderick, of those same comic book companies. Bronze Star came out October 31 st. 2023, and is in it's second running. It's gotten many critics lauding how great the writing and art is. Everyone's saying it's the best of Pats career. His heart was all in. He was so happy to not draw someone in spandex. 😮It's a horror Western, in the first running, offered the book in full color by Robb Epps. They also offered a very limited run of maybe 500 hard cover copies, but possibly only 250. It's only 4 am and no sleep all night for me, so please forgive any typos, rambling or a slight error. I'm not sure if any of the artists copies, which is a black and white coffee table size book, which shows all the line work that Pat is known for in his 51 years in comics, are left. I would love to see what he could do with these tomes and that mirror !!. Creature Commandos is being done this year as well by Warner and DC from the early 70's. An animated cartoon style thing if I have all that right. I'm not hawking books here, there are only a few left anyway at this time. I just got overly excited wishing to see the mirror. Your writing style really makes you want to SEE! It !!! I absolutely loved these two stories and hope to see more. Sorry for my book here, but again, sleepy and excited. I just want to read the description of the mirror to him. I'd love to see a small sketch of it if there was time. You can't get the same kind of story in a graphic novel, as the word balloons would be all there was. Are these in print? Just loved them both. Thank you for getting me through the night. Looking forward to more of the same. ❤❤
I would like to see the story expanded. More about the past and more about the hero in the story. That is if he is a hero and if not who and what is he and his family? His friend seems to know more about his family than he does, why? That kind of stuff. You are such a great story teller you should write a book. I so enjoy listening to you.
I look forward to work everyday just for these stories, nothing makes my day more than hearing such perfect narration while getting stuff done,l. Keep it up man
Oh yeah, baby! Gotta love some Lovecraftian horror on Mondays. Maybe you could institute a Lovecraft day on the channel! I know I'd love listening to you narrate stuff like Dagon or Shadows over Innsmouth
I liked this one, I didn't have to take my heart meds 😅 It was a really smooth transition from just voice to more and more sound effects. Beautiful done!
I love the atmosphere and setting in this one. It kind of makes me think of a haunted mansion x layers of fear crossover. I like creepy old big houses in forests. I like the protagonist too. I can relate to people like that on a personal level. Great story and narration as always.
I can hear it in your voice that you are still under the weather, hope you make a proper comeback blood, from one king to another. Stay blessed my boy. I've been here with you since the beginning. I'm talkin day one! 🙌😎💪😌

Glad to see you back I hope your doing well, there’s a story I think you might be interested in call “How I Made God” Mr. Creeps did a pretty good narration of it but I feel like you would knock it out of the park. Keep up the good work and can’t wait to see more from you 🤛🏽
I found this story to be excellent. The supernatural elements remained in a plausible but yet deniable existence. That perfect balance. Bravo to the author.
Tales of the Dreaming void is very fun. There's a couple key stories in there that I think are really neat. It's also only 1 of a couple collections I think? I'll have to track it down to give recommendations though.
It's only after listening to this a 2nd time, and after hearing the latest narration you did from the author, that I now realize this story is inspired by Lovecraft's tale "Pickman's Model"
There’s this series of Creepypastas called “Tales of the City” that is both beautifully written and super underrated. I think your style of narration/sound design would fit it beautifully. I’d love for you to check it out if possible!
At around 11:38 I was dozing, and the sound of footsteps had me jolt fully awake tearing my headphones off. I thought something was walking on my tin roof!! My heart is luckily healthy…and upon rewinding & re-listening I had to grin. 😎👍🏼
Your blowing up on this one dark somnium, no surprise your good, im saying you have alot of comments and that's cool, that means there's a lot of people to reply eith snd that's fun most of the time, sometimes people get uptight and that is hilarious to me
I think if you're looking for more lovecraftian stories there's nothing better than Mr. Lovecraft himself! I do think that "The color out of space" is one that would fit the channel fairly well, it's much more well paced than some of his other stories. If you're up for a slower paced, longer story, though, two of my favorites are "The Whisperer in Darkness" and "At the Mountains of Madness"
Hope you're feeling better! Also, I wanted to say that I noticed the dialogue in recent videos are closer in volume to the narrations. Thank you for taking my previous suggestion! ❤
Hey hey!! Glad to see you back! Thanks for the update, just in time to help me stay away during my boring shift lol, thanks so much for saving part of my afternoon!!
Oh if you are doing lovecraft then my recommendation has to go to “the mound” by far my favorite of his works and all the extra additions you add to the narrations would make it _the best_ narration of that story out there. It is however, a fairly long story and will end up multiple hours in length.
Whats good Dark! Glad to see you're back! Have you ever thought about doing the No End house story? I think with your great skill of narration, music, and sound design, it would be a masterpiece in your hands.
How was your weekend? Let me know what you think of the story!

I know I'd love listening to you narrate stuff like Dagon or Shadows over Innsmouth
that sounds fun!
Hey, Glad you’re feeling better! Btw your version of the prison story was amazing :)
thank you so much!
I liked that one a lot - very immersive.
Ive gotten a few of my friends into creepypastas, thanks to you DS! I check your channel everynight for new vids, as I'm winding down. Much love! 💙
Listening to this after your newest upload „the dark secret behind the house outside of town“ same author ❤
Taking a break from the news. My jaw is throbbing from bruxing, awake and asleep. Thanks for the narration.
I liked this one, I didn't have to take my heart meds 😅
It was a really smooth transition from just voice to more and more sound effects. Beautiful done!
I love the atmosphere and setting in this one. It kind of makes me think of a haunted mansion x layers of fear crossover. I like creepy old big houses in forests. I like the protagonist too. I can relate to people like that on a personal level. Great story and narration as always.
Very Lovecraft vibes to this one. The choice to use the surname "Pickman" in a story about ghouls is definitely intentional.
yeah i felt the same way! i hope you're enjoying it!
@Darksomnium as for Lovecraft's own stories, my personal favorites are "The Colour Out of Space" and "Pickman's Model."
Having a week off, and it's really nice after a long time working in a stressful workplace.. I hope you take day offs here and there.
thank you! and i do, i just got over being sick so i took a pretty long break haha.
Such a fantastic time listening. ❤ Thank you!!
Thanks for listening
I can hear it in your voice that you are still under the weather, hope you make a proper comeback blood, from one king to another. Stay blessed my boy. I've been here with you since the beginning. I'm talkin day one!
🙌😎💪😌
thank you! im feeling better but my voice is still a little congested haha .
Best storyteller me and my kids listen daily
Wow ty!
“Very Lovecraftian!” I started to write as you yourself declared the same!
Petition #29 for The Left Right Game to be re-recorded.
At this point it’s a compulsion that I’m not sure I want to stop, we’re in for the long haul now lmao
Love your work TDS, if you’re ever in the cities where Nike and Intel I’ll buy you a drink!
From the beginning of the story the mood and atmosphere elicited the feeling I had while watching Pickman's Model my Guillermo del Toro.
Glad to see you back I hope your doing well, there’s a story I think you might be interested in call “How I Made God” Mr. Creeps did a pretty good narration of it but I feel like you would knock it out of the park.
Keep up the good work and can’t wait to see more from you 🤛🏽
Hey! sounds interesting, ill check it out!
I haven’t listened to the story yet, but can anyone tell me if this is a feelpasta or a creepy story?
Perfect timing as always. Was just searching for something to eat away my boredom.
xD
Thanks Ronnie much appreciated brother great work as always
You are very welcome
I love listening to your stories during work or just working out. You’re narration is amazing
Somnium dropped while I was out for lunch. Glad to listen this afternoon. Happy to hear you're feeling better!
Welcome back! Miss your stories!
Thank you so much for all you do! You soothe a sorrow, unending.
thank you :)
Your blowing up on this one dark somnium, no surprise your good, im saying you have alot of comments and that's cool, that means there's a lot of people to reply eith snd that's fun most of the time, sometimes people get uptight and that is hilarious to me
Thank you!
Pretty good one, like a prequel/retelling of Pickman's Model but from the point of view of Pickman - I enjoyed it
The amount of effort you put into videos of just audio is more than most put into full productions
Oh man, yes the Colour is a good one! It’s that kind of tale that verges on ecological horror, instead of a single monster or antagonist
Hope you're feeling better! Also, I wanted to say that I noticed the dialogue in recent videos are closer in volume to the narrations. Thank you for taking my previous suggestion! ❤
glad it sounds better!
Hard to beat a day off, a redbull, and a new Somnium upload to listen to while i draw. Thanks for all your hard work!
Glad you enjoy it!
I love this! My favorite Lovecraft story is At the Mountains of Madness
I love watching your videos, all of the ones I've heard so far have given me chills and I love them.
Wow, thank you!
Five hours later and i finally find my head set.
Hey hey!! Glad to see you back! Thanks for the update, just in time to help me stay away during my boring shift lol, thanks so much for saving part of my afternoon!!
Have a good day! :)
You’re stories are the best to hear, I got sick and have to lay in bed all day. Thanks for curing my boredom
Glad you like them!
Oh if you are doing lovecraft then my recommendation has to go to “the mound” by far my favorite of his works and all the extra additions you add to the narrations would make it _the best_ narration of that story out there. It is however, a fairly long story and will end up multiple hours in length.
The Thing on the Doorstep is my favorite Lovecraft story. Dont think the aged vocabulary is too much. Give it a look!
YAYYYYY!!!!! i’m so excited to listen thank you so much for all you do mr. somnium!!!
ty for coming by!
I’m getting some Lovecraftian vibes off this story, particularly with the narrator being an artist as well as their surname being Pickman.
im excited to see what you think when you finish it! :)
Easily my favorite channel on the tube
If you ever do Lovecraft, may I suggest "At the Mountains of Madness".
Excellent work per usual
Thank you! Cheers!
Last time I was this early, I was in the Glenmont Metro.
ooo glad you could come by so early!
I ADORE the new ending theme! The old one frankly made my heart jump and made it impossible to dose off 😅
Dark somnium just making everyone’s Monday better 😂🔥
Whats good Dark! Glad to see you're back! Have you ever thought about doing the No End house story? I think with your great skill of narration, music, and sound design, it would be a masterpiece in your hands.
i think i did that story once a long time ago, it would be fun to visit it again though!
@@Darksomnium I would love to see a revamp. I’ll have to go digging to listen to it again, I love that story.
If you find this vid, please share the link here. I'd love to hear this narration.
Glad your back bud. Thanks for this one.
Ty!
I love the vibe of this one
This story, for some reason, gives me vibes of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven”. I don’t know why, but it was great. Awesome job!
I would love to hear you do more Lovecraft!! You did an excellent job with this one
