Man these stories are the only thing that help me keep my sanity at work. Sometimes I re play them 3 or 4 times if it’s a good one. Working night shift as security is boring.
sometimes it's better boring than dangerous, but some adventure really wouldn't be so bad. I have a weird idea to get into working nightshifts anywhere when I'm around thirty lol
Get your friend to write you a strange list of rules (whilst still being able to do your job) and live out your own creepypasta lmao/j
Working night shift at a plant is too man 😂
I work mornings by myself. That's when I listen to these stories.
I worked in security 12 years ago. My first job was a 12 hour night shift at a new document storage facility. It didn’t yet have a security or fire system installed as they were waiting for a specialised system to come. I just had to sit in the front office watching movies and drinking coffee and occasionally go out the back to make sure the piles of documents were ok. I loved it.
Of course that ended and had to do mobile patrols, driving all over the city. The weirdos really do come out at night. The guy before me did one night and never came back. I left not long after. Way too many locations to hit and some places 3 times a night and alarms in amongst the list I had to follow. Was on the go all night trying to keep up. The good easy jobs never last.
Hey sorry it's been a while! I hope you enjoy this one

I wonder if the rangers that disappear become fire folk? It wouldn't be the strangest thing I've heard. Great story that can keep me from camping in the woods.

Interestingly enough, the largest number of crewed fire lookouts seems to be in Florida. Given just how many horror stories about fire lookouts there are I wanted to know how common of a job this actually is. I didn't do an exhaustive search, but so many of them are automated now that it's fairly uncommon for one to actually have people in it. Kind of like lighthouse keeper used to be a relatively common job, now lighthouse maintenance guy is the best you're going to get.
The horror stories are spread from monster to monster about the fire towers, the lairs of the Florida Mans.
I grew up in Overstreet, FL. There was a fire tower there when I was growing up manned by, interestingly enough, Mr. Marshall. That was his name, as well as an aptronym. I'm sure he has long ago retired and died. Hurricane Michael blew over the tower, and it has not been rebuilt. Between drones and automated cameras, I'm under the impression that manned fire towers are going the way of manned lighthouses.
@@christosvoskresyeNot true. At least in the west.
@@DS..69 WHAT is not true? That the Overstreet tower was blown down? That it has not been rebuilt? Sorry, those are facts, not speculation. You can see it lying on the ground in the overhead view of Google maps; the street view shows it some time later, after the fallen tower has been cleared away. I last visited the area a little over a year ago, and there was no evident concern that the tower was really needed.
I assume, then, that you are saying that the Mark 1 Eyeball will remain the best way to detect forest fires. Maybe. Maybe not. Either is just speculation.
It's not fair I tell ya
What the world coming to 😮😢
I would find it difficult to forgive an employer for so callously putting my life at risk, to say nothing of the lives of my friends. I would seriously be tempted to start a fire on my way out.

I was in the Army. And when I was in basic training we did our FTX, basically we stayed in the woods for days. And Idk if I was just so tired and tge lack of sleep. But one time, when the sun is setting and the woods is getting dark, the trees started to form like human soldiers, We were in a prone position and this trees are moving slowly getting into form like they ate mirroring us. I was creeped out but I know it must be my lack of sleep. Then I was telking my buddy about it and one of my buddies over heard me and she said she saw the same thing, but doesn't want to say anything coz she might be kicked out for being cuckoo. So idk, it might be the trees really reforming themselves

I love the rules genre. I couldn't get past the fact that so many didn't make it but no outcry from the families or news reporters. And the change of door from trap to front. Still I listened to the end and it was narrated so well.
Yeah, you have to not look for holes in stories like this to enjoy them, but when the holes are this obvious I can't suspend disbelieve enough to enjoy the story any more. There are good elements here, but multiple people just can't disappear from the same place year after year with no scrutiny. You hear about people disappearing previous years where you now work and you have access to the internet and you don't research it. You don't attempt to take pictures or video to show your disbelieving coworkers. You don't attempt to reinforce the trap door. Then you're like, " Some people I worked with for 3 months (some of who I grew close to) didn't survive a scenario where they were purposely put in harms way without their knowledge, but I got a job from the people that hazed my coworkers to death, so I guess I help murder people now. Cool, I guess I'm a psychopath now.
This story was narrated well but its still pretty annoying 😒 so much talk about fire people, for the story to never explain what they were or the relevance of shining extra bright come Xmas 😂 what a let down
All you had to do to make the story scarier and effective, is change the era from Modern times to the 70s
Additionally: there were times, in the first act, where the probationary period was mentioned as a year, while the rest of the times mentioned 90 days.
@@spliffboothI think this is because they started close to the end of the year. He mentioned getting through October, November, then needing to get through December.
I admit my biggest curiosity is why they didn’t radio in seeing a glow in the trees for over an hour as fire watch trainees, even if you think it’s a supernatural entity. At least you could find out if they think you’re pulling a prank (unknown) or an awkward “don’t worry about it too much” (well, I guess I’m not seeing things).
That and why they didn’t actually show the other two rather than tell them. But these kinds of stories require a certain amount of suspension of disbelief and lack of examination to be properly effective.
Good work on the presentation! Really well done visually and auditorily.
I'm feeling a central theme in a lot of these of self-sacrifice and commitment to one's newfound responsibilities, after the "I work at a gas station and I have some stories to tell" one, the "I know why my neighbors are disappearing and I'm next" one and even the "grandfather's ghost shields the living" one, which, my friend Saf tells me is the first one this channel did!
My compliments to the author-narrator on the use of recurring motif!
Apparently, we have a TON of Park Rangers out there. But in all seriousness, I was a Wildland Firefighter, never heard or saw anything paranormal.

@@furanduron4926 No kiddin’?
Well that's a pretty immoral gig this guy took on! He takes 5 hirees out to their deaths without warning them? I was surprised he was even willing to work for that park ranger after finding out he did this on purpose.
What happened to the other 3 in the cabin? Did they just not have a chance because they weren't in the tower? That doesn't seem very fair, and he didn't even tell the boss about it the next day, even though he told him about the campers the day before, and even got a visit from the ranger, but I guess the 3 missing recruits was less important
Honestly this story made me angry I was thinking about how they actually do sacrifice kids just to see if any survived I mean damn at least inform them of the dangers so they can prepare and hopefully survive
Yes.They did not have a chance.
Who says they died. Disappearing doesn't automatically mean death.
Also relax, it's just a story.
Completely agree, MC actions in this story were annoying af, "I decided to keep the secret" "so I just decided not to say anything" when he could literally just show the other kids?? And it could possibly be a danger to them? Then when he finds out they were basically sacrificed he just rolls into a park ranger position. And has zero problems sacrificing 5 kids every 3 months to these things.
Suspension if disbelief is one thing in these stories and I am willing to give a lot of leeway there, but this was just a disappointing and annoying MC in what could have been a great story, lol.

Not a bad story, and excellent narration as always, but come on... They highlight that they have phones, and phone service is "sketchy" at best. Fine, but later on the phones do not show up, other that saying that one of the girls is probably constantly doing something on it, and not spotting the firefolk. They are phones, I am guessing smartphones, with a camera you know... WE are told, that others did not believe what the rest saw, so just make a goddam picture and show them. Unless these beings are ghosts or whatever that is not showing on camera, this is a cialable option. Even batter, just take them and show them when the beigns start walking. Not just tell, show, either a photo, or recording, or drag these people and point out the weird figures.
Not mentioning anything to the guard (when we did not know his allegience yet) is also weird. Fine, our protagonist may have such opinion, but the rest? Not saying about the campers to the other belivers was also weird, as these guys saw the figures as not dangerous far longer than the protagonist.
But OK, let's say, that it happened as told, and they are stuck in the towar. Why aren't they trying to communicate by phone with outside world? Send a SMS, barerly any signal is needed to send it, far less than for voice, or internet. Of course there could have been jammers installed but it is hard to believe.
These little things stop me from fully enjoying the story.

Loved working in my live in firetower. Other than a giant bird that stomped on the roof one night and had a 15ish foot wingspan, nothing strange. Well, except perhaps the night the trap door was pushed up in an attempt to be opened, with no sounds of steps creaking as they should have during the climb. Had a cool moutain lion that hung around. Being literally in a thunderstorm was scary, though. The tower would twist and sway in the wind. Best complaint was the stars keeping me up at night because of how bright they were.
I actually had a US Forest Job as a kid. It was a good job. I was the only one at the lookout. My 3rd year I was assigned to Smokejumping in the Pacific NW for 3 years.
