    This looks like a way I'd enjoy spending an afternoon!
    Yesterday I picked up aluminum cans on my four mile walk for the first time --- I must have 300 or so. Stomped on them to reduce their volume, and finally used a tarp to carry them.
    When I saw the pile of transmissions in the video, I said --- hmmm! Get out the sledgehammer! That proved to be a good judgment, apparently.
    I enjoyed watching the video.

    Hey that looks like some nasty dirty aluminum. I am interested how pure it is inside if you could cut one in two and show the quality of the aluminum. You know , could someone machine a part from this stuff ?? No one uts open and shows the quality inside .

    Help me out here i love melting and stacking metal. Especially aluminum and copper but to the life of me why muffin pucks? They are one of the worse shapes to stack and store. Bricks are by far more convenient as they stack neatly and take up far less space. This allowing to store 2 to 3 times the weight in a smaller space.

    Wow, been wondering how to do this. I’ve only have about 8 aluminum transmissions, looks like a lotta work!!!! Went to the junkyard the other day, and brought them one of my aluminum transmissions, he offered me seven dollars for it!!!! 😂😂😂😂 Luckily I have about 5-5 gallon bucket’s full of copper. Working on my 6th now. The great part is, summer is just begun, I’m guessing I won’t be bored this winter in Maine!!! Also have a 55 gallon drum half full of alternator’s.
    So you all know, make some friends that own a garage!!! I’ve given three dollars per alternator, $10 per transmission, I pick up TVs, air conditioners, and microwaves when I see them, and I live in a pretty small town in Maine, every Sunday I go to the junkyard, and they’ll be all kinds of TVs and microwaves, Air conditioners, he sets them out back and I just take them home for free. 👍 hopefully this helps a few people that are thinking about doing this, from what I can see, there’s a lot of money in my yard right now.

    Hey bud, I love pistons. Just the right size to fit my pot. That and I have a piece of 3/4 in plywood with a bunch of screws in it that lives on my cutting bench. I would be lost without it. Getting that gearbox is great my friend. They are a great source of quality stock.I am curious, , , Do you not use borax and soda ? I find it so cheap and really helps float the dirt etc. Your forge/furnace is standing up really well. Even that broken lid is still going strong.Way better than the muffin trays eh, LOL. This was fun, Thanks fella !

    Score yourself a five plastic five gallon bucket and fill it three quarters the way with water next time, that way when you're making muffins in bulk you can just knock them into it and leave them all there till you're done, then dump out the water and now you've got something to keep them in till you're ready to use them.

    That's a horribly inefficient way to breakdown those parts, man. get a rosebud tip for a torch and cut those castings. The heat with crystallize the metal and it will break apart easily. You're wasting time, blades and all those aluminum chips. Not cracking on your technique, just offering a better solution.

    I'm just always confused on these videos because most yards pay the same per pound weather it's an ingot or a raw clean case.
    Even worse, yards near me won't but ingots for fear of them being "loaded" with steel centers.

    I got a forge so big you can melt the entire tranny in it, it leaves all the iron parts behind. I use scrap wood to fuel it and a blower motor. I melted sixty plus pounds yesterday with it. My scrap aluminum ingots about 30 of them weigh over 200 plus pounds. The last one weighed over 50 pounds bye itself

      @@fredordaz355 I'll describe it to you it's about four feet high, 3 feet in diameter, has 10" tube stainless for a fan motor that you just place inside it. It's primary use is to burn trash and wood products. I have thousands of mesquite trees here, trimming them is a constant battle. When this forge is going I melt like 40 pounds of scrap aluminum at a time. The walls are made of concrete, reinforced with wire/ rebar. The inside walls have to be redone like every 100 hours with a new coating of concrete/ wire. the heat has a negative affect on the structure. I can also burn off waste oils as needed. Nothing is left after the burn process. It is basically a Dakota fire hole on steroids ,

    We used to do something similar to this years back with our junk yard...had an industrial smelter, would smash up the gear boxes and then pop them in and then it would pour out lovely ally into the ingots we had, could hardly keep up with the ingots...lol.

    • @BusyBeeCompany

      then scrap the other metals out as we went...would take the ally into the major shipping junk yards when it crossed a ton.

      Are we melt steel by waste oil burner without graphite crucible please tell me

    • @smokingjoking
      @smokingjoking 5 років тому

      @@israrali9318 It depends where you sell it. Most scrap yards do not have equipment to test the ingots. And will not take them. If they do you will get the lowest price. But if you find a smelter and you supply the same alloy and it is what he needs you may cut out the middle man and get a great price. The problem is once you melt it no one can tell the alloy with out testing and some require testing on every ingot. In that case the bigger the ingot the better so less testing is required. I was the owner of scrap business and wanted to make ingots to save on shipping but I would have lost money. It was worth more when they could see what it was.

    Was not expecting that much slag from an alloy. That metal is 85% aluminum and the rest other metals, the other alloys are now slagged out. Maybe not the strongest now for casting, still cool though.

    • @Zortorond
      @Zortorond 5 років тому

      What are you talking about? Most of the slug is aluminium oxide and not "the other alloys". There are some steel parts he didn't remove like those positioning pins but they sink to the bottom.

    • @ryeckley7267
      @ryeckley7267 5 років тому

      I don’t know about that. The other alloys - silicon, copper, mag, nickle, iron, all have a higher or different melting point and end up as top slag or bottom weight. It’s why an aluminum piston or block does not melt upon high temps.
      I think he has extracted the low melt aluminum and could have fluxed out some of the other low melt metals that are useless without the whole alloy being blended.
      Just saying, what do you think?

    • @Zortorond
      @Zortorond 5 років тому

      I'm sorry dude but this is bullshit. Alloys are not a mechanical mixture they are solution so they can not be separated so easy. If it would be so steel and cast iron wouldn't be possible because melting temperature of carbon is more than twice higher than iron. There is even more - very often alloy melting temperature is significantly lower than all of its components and cast iron is the most common example of that. Deal with it%)

    • @ryeckley7267
      @ryeckley7267 5 років тому

      That’s the point, when you heat the mixture to the temp of the highest melting point of the mixture (iron) that is when the aluminum alloy is created, or in this case when that temp is not achieved you end up with slag and dump material. Get it now?
