October 24th, 2022 Question Timestamps: ------------------------------------------- 1:40 - Hey Ian and Kyle, what are some of your favorite quotes you use from day to day? I can imagine Ian screaming "IGNORE ME!" like the Grand Galactic Inquisitor from Venture Bros for some reason. And Kyle saying "That's No Good." 4:32 - I remember hearing somewhere on Aleah's old blog that King Puff of Meropis isn't actually of noble birth and in fact married into the royal family. Is this true? If it's Lost Hedgehog Tales material that can't be talked about, just say so. 5:27 - Have either of you ever checked out the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon spinoff games? How about the music for it? If not, I highly recommend at least checking out the soundtrack for any/all of the games, as there are some absolutely amazing songs, and even more amazing remixes. *Super Mystery Dungeon is the best game. Fight me.* *Kyle also guessed why they’re called Mystery Dungeons first try. That almost makes me forgive him for not listening to a lot of the soundtrack.* 7:50 - In the original Archie run, the Freedom Fighters had their Anti versions, and small details about Moebius sprinkled in along the way. I know that, for simplistic writing purposes, that the Anti characters were all total opposites, but this is clearly not true on the grand scale, otherwise their world simply wouldn't make logical sense to survive for average citizens. While that is more plot convenience, and I am fine with that, that does leave some more relevant questions. Does Rob have a brother, since Anti-Rob's was mentioned? Shadow and Maria? Or, more to the point, Jules was a leader of peace times in Scourge's world, yet was a "disabled" war veteran who was nearly K.I.A. and was saved via robotisization by his brother. Unless the "opposite" factor was that he was overly successful instead of injured, does that mean only select characters are opposites? Or is Sonic's father hiding his sinister plans in plain sight, an unrealized sub-plot? 12:42 - You recently said that officially, Eggman has never killed and does not kill. However, I’m wondering if there’s a larger nuance to it. In Forces, Infinite is seen killing people before he lets Buddy run away. In IDW, Shadow Androids kill the Diamond Cutters, and in 200 years, his Metal Virus killed everyone. I’m thinking Eggman is simply not supposed to get his own hands dirty or commit these deeds himself. What do you think? I feel like he also doesn’t have any personal problems with killing considering SA2, where he holds a gun to Amy’s head, almost succeeds in killing Sonic, and even tells Shadow to finish the job if he doesn’t come back from his confrontation with Sonic alive. More recently, he tried to use the Eclipse Cannon to destroy a city in the final Sonic Channel story. So what are your thoughts? 16:52 - Does Mimic being an octopus open up the possibility for other aquatic animals getting the Sonic treatment, like the denizens of Meropis back in Archie, or is Mimic about as far as we're going to get? *Whenever a question is answered like this, I’ll provide instructions for where you can find that question here. For example, this question (though answered here), can also be found on the September 21st, 2022 BK (at **38:46**).* 18:21 - Sonic in Undertale? What happens? How would Sonic react to the folks in the Underground? What would a "Mobian" soul look like? Determination vs. Chaos energy? Is Eggman overflowing with determination? Metal Sonic vs. Mettaton dance off? Chilly-Dog? Why is Kofi's word count so sho- 21:09 - why are there multicolored emeralds in the Sonic Adventure arc of the comic when all of them were green then, there's a purple one in Chaos, and a blue and pink one held by big, this was only the case in Super Special 13 not in the main issues, they were also referred to as master emerald shards and looked like normal chaos emeralds, I'm confused by this, and what is the Onyx Emerald, it's not a Chaos Emerald soooo? 24:11 - Something that I love about Movie Sonic is how, although he flatters himself a lot, he is also very kind and tender with his family and friends, they achieved a good balance in his personality. While reading opinions on the internet about the movie, I saw that some people were surprised that Sonic was so nice to Tails because they thought he was a bully and a jerk and I'm sure that's not how Sonic Team wants us to see their blue hedgehog. In your opinion, why do you think some people have such a negative impression of Sonic? Do you think the old series and comics have something to do with it? or maybe it's because of more recent things like the Sonic Boom branch? 27:44 - Were there any particular times where you were writing a story for the Sonic or Megaman comics, and received push-back from something such as a mandate or editor, and you had to change course on how you were writing it...but then you realized that the story actually better benefited from the push-backs when compared to your original plans? If so, do you have any examples or stories on that? 31:20 - So. The IDW comics, gave us a good version of Eggman in Mr Tinker. But, we have only seen a MODERN Mr Tinker. But what about the other versions? What would a Satam Mr Tinker be like? Or Adventures of? Classic? Boom? And would a movie Mr Tinker just be Ace Ventura?!? 34:06 - With the recent Monster Hunter DLC outfit for Sonic being a Rathalos, what MH outfit would Scourge wear? I was thinking a Gore Magala Armor would look good on him. 34:43 - Say there was a Sonic and Kirby crossover (game, tv show, movie, anything, really) which of the other’s collection of final bosses do you think would be really cool to see the 2 to fight? I’d like to see your answers for both if it’s thematically appropriate for the character, AND whatever crazy choice you think would just be really cool. I’d say king dedede is the only exception, since he’s just kinda selfish, and not so much a villain like the others. Personally, I love the idea of Kirby fighting final hazard, and sonic fighting Void’s true form (star allies) but I could go on and on about how many cool scenarios could play out. 37:46 - If someone worked for the Eggman Empire, do they have to sign one of those contracts that make it where anything you create there automatically belongs to Eggman or can you take your creations elsewhere when you quit/are fired from a cannon? ------------------------------------------- 43:18 - Metal Sonic has been shown to withstand huge amounts of electricity before (and was even revived that way in Sonic 4,) and also has the ability to literally create a field of electricity around himself. So how was Surge able to take him down so easily with her electrical abilities? ------------------------------------------- 39:19 - Thanks to those who support the show 41:57 - LIVE QNA TIME ON SATURDAY! TELL YOUR FRIEND(S) ABOUT IT! 42:18 - Gravity! 42:25 Jravity! (Ian remix)
Ian and Kyle: Have you ever noticed that while Sonic's enemies are pretty much his opposites, Tails enemies tend to be dark reflections of him? Mogul and Witchart represent his fantasy and strangeness, Grand Kukku his love of the sky and airships, and Hypnobot reflects his mastery over the mechanical.
One scenario I’d love to see play out in an Undertale X Sonic crossover is Sonic’s ideology clashing with Asgore’s + the situation the monsters are in. Say that Eggman invaded the Underground but is thwarted by Sonic and the monsters. As Eggman lays defeated in the wreck of one of his mechs, Asgore approaches and prepares to deal the final blow, ready to take his soul to finally free his people… only to be stopped by Sonic, who just a moment ago was fighting alongside him. Sonic refuses to let Eggman die, saying that he can’t pose a threat anymore and that the fight’s over, only to be met with the fact that 1 more human soul is needed to break the barrier. If Eggman doesn’t die, every monster will remain trapped in the Underground, unless they decide to kill Frisk, an innocent (?) child instead. Either way, somebody’s freedom will be lost. Eggman’s the perfect human for Asgore’s needs, being a terrible, irredeemable person that would sacrifice anyone and anything for his own benefit and would only make the world better if he was gone… right? I’d want to see Sonic and Asgore both try to justify their actions while fighting. How Sonic thinks back to every enemy he once had that eventually became an ally, and how, even if the moments were fleeting and are small in comparison to his crimes, that Eggman is still capable of doing good things (like in Lost World or in IDW) and won’t throw that potential away, especially since he wants a world where everyone can be free. How Asgore remembers how much he has given to get this close to breaking the barrier, and how if he gives Eggman any sort of mercy, then the lives he has taken would all be for nothing, and his people will never get the lives they deserve. They both want a world that gives everyone freedom and safety, but whereas Sonic looks at this impossible task and still tries to achieve it, Asgore and those close to him have been hurt going for that impossibility. His child died because he refused to fight back against those attacking him, so is letting Eggman live to possibly harm others a repeat of that mistake? I know a lot of people are tired of Sonic’s morality being brought up and challenged, but I think it would create good conflict with Undertale’s characters. Just felt the need to write out an idea I had.
24:25 I don’t know WHY anyone thinks Sonic is a jerk. In all versions, he’s a really nice guy. And in Sonic Boom, he’s usually only mean to someone if they were mean to him FIRST, or mean to him in the past.
Since you've said that Kirby and sonic both work easy in any setting, but what about Ben Tennyson? The Omnitrix, either with the aliens already present or by collecting new species samples locally it just feels like a fun tool to play with
Regarding the Sonic/Kirby question, It would be cool seeing Kirby wielding the Jeweled Scepter, who wields the "power of the stars", from Blaze's world.
34:28 actually there IS a rival to rathalos that just so happens to be a green electric wyvern! It’s name is Astalos (the electric rebel wyvern),perfect fit! Rathalos and Astalos are both rulers of the skies and fight over territory aggressively. Actually, I’m more surprised that they didn’t go with azure Rathalos for Sonics armor in the DLC (basically a blue rathalos)
24:58 In Archie, the only time I remember him doing anything mean was dating Fiona when he knew Tails liked her. And he didn’t mean to hurt Tails and he sincerely apologized for it.
Question: Survival of the Flynnest! You wake up on the strange cosmic ship with 9 other people. You’re informed that there are a bunch of simple tasks that must be done all around the ship within a certain time limit or the ship explodes. Also, there are one or two traitors within your ranks that will attempt to kill you all. Your vast knowledge of Sonic trivia makes you a natural choice for a leader (plus only you had medbay). What’s your strategy? Thankfully good old reliable Kyle is one of the nine people. Then again, are you sure it’s really him???
Question: I know you say you cannot answer any questions about sonic frontiers, but I was wondering, when will you be able to? as soon as it comes out? a few weeks after it's out? I'm wondering because I would like to listen to your podcast without getting spoiled before I can pick up a copy of the game. (I'm getting frontiers for Christmas so the wait will be terrible)
You can't convince me that Boom Sonic isn't a jerk, I mean, he preferred to win a race instead of helping Amy and Sticks out of a hole, he carried Knuckles through a bunch of cacti, he lied to his best friend just so as not to lose a bet even when it meant that Tails would have to make a fool of himself in front of everyone, he didn't want to admit his fault for not putting in a battery, he fired his best friend without telling him why and he only excuses himself to himself saying "the plan had holes", he also thinks that all the pretty girls must be dying for him, if that's not being a jerk, I don't know what is

I do think Boom!Sonic was a little bit of a jerk, especially in the "just a guy" episode. Then again, the way he was portrayed to sound a bit less empathetic and more apathetic played a role in this I think.
What? HOW was he a jerk in Just A Guy? All he did was tell a normal guy he couldn’t come to a supervillain fight, which makes sense, and everyone shunned him for no reason. EVERYONE ELSE in the episode was a jerk.
What!!!?! Every character except for sonic was a jerk in that episode, what are you talking about, the village kept getting mad at him for nothing. They don't deserve Sonic

Yeaa I think the Just a guy episode wasn’t the best example of Sonic being a jerk( Tbh I was so sick of those villagers) I’m sure the mecha suit episode would be a better idea even tho that wasn’t really Sonic in his right mind. Now that was a mean Sonic
