I capture my analog video in the most exquisite way, by running the the signal into a blackmagic analog to sdi into a blackmagic video assist into prores 422hq and then printed on 16mm Kodak Vision 3 500T 7219 film via an arrilaser and then scanning it back on a lasergraphic 6.5k HDR, truly the best quality.
Wait until you figure out that RGB levels run from 0-255, while YUV levels only runs from 16-235 and that you never really know if YUV and RGB are being converted correctly during multiple levels of your processing chain (and post capture filter chain because some filters only work on RGB video!).
Just to be perfectly clear. Trying to figure out, what the heck is going on with video encoding. Won't drive you completely insane. It will only seem that you've gone insane, to everyone else. But, for the love of God. Don't take a deep dive, into ISO.

I'm obsessed with getting it right too because i know when im 80 and on my death bed, AI will be good enough to upscale vhs video to 16K but only if it was captured correctly with the original interlaced video and all the right colours. Or i could just grab what i got at 500kbps and call it a day...ffs
VHS-Decode is amazing. I’m trying to focus on the more non-archival idiot-proof solutions. RetroRGB talks about the RF capture stuff which part of the reason I recommend his VHS series.
@@ReasonablyBritish Personally I wouldn't recommend his blunder of a series because I'm the one that has to helping hand him in DMs through all the mess because he can't even read the wiki before starting a live stream 😂 And he's been conflating the generic concept of RF capture with the DomesDay Duplicator for years and refuses to clean up that mess. It's cost and time which things come down to and considering the new clock gen and the new composite capture able MISRC costs less than anything black magic makes, that conventional markets on its way out very fast.
I wish UA-cam had a double-like button for videos like this. It is a crime that this video isn't the most watched VHS capture video on UA-cam. The algorithm on UA-cam is seriously messed up. I will have to keep on watching and liking as an act of defiance. The good news is that I now have dozens of new videos to watch. Also, it took me a few tries but I was able to pause the video at the right point to see your Easter eggs or whatever we call those single frame images.
I do agree wholeheartedly with you. Also, here's a tip: use the period and comma keys on your keyboard while the video is paused to progress one frame at a time, forwards or backwards respectively.

I still can't tell if the voiceover here is an AI reconstruction of the late, great voice actor Tony Jay, or if RB is just a natural vocal clone. If you wanted an urbane villain for any cartoon in the 1990s, you hired Mr. Jay. The resemblance is eerie.
