Me i was lucky was a 300 year old farm house on my property on my land . Farmhouse was leveled and split into two properties. Besides finding live mortars from WWII ... I discovered a 200 year old well that was capped and my garage foundation built on that ... the Turkish neighbor told me I had a well ... when i found it under the crawl space under the house and drilled a hole into the concrete cap. I dropped a flashlight down 50 feet . An amazing Find!! In the center of the well someone drilled further in the center and added a PVS pipe . When I plum bobbed the depth of the dry well at 50 feet i found the string dropped another 25 feet of pure water . I was lucky enough to drill through the concrete cap and then up through the garage concrete floor and place a pump in the forward part of my garage . Finally when I dropped 70 feet of 1” PVC pipe i am ready for the next step . Life is cool in France free water !!!!
You’ve made the best investment in going with Hunter. My sister and brother in-law have their Hunter system for twenty one years and have never had a single malfunction. Their timers and valves have been flawless and the only sprinkler head that needed replacing was due to damage from a snowblower. They had spares because when they added their driveway, they took a zone out and have a few extra heads. This is the Kitchenaid stand mixer, the Kirby vacuum, the John Deere tractor of sprinkler systems. I still think that you should have a National Walking Sprinkler Model B-3 just for the fun of it. They’re highly entertaining and every bit as well built as an anvil. I think that you will want to aerate the areas where the equipment disturbed your soil in order to return the soil to its soft, non-compacted state before top dressing. Congratulations Ryan! Life just got easier and you won’t realize how much work regular hose end watering was. I’m looking forward to a video of the zones running with the sun illuminating the streams of water from your sprinklers. You can make it look like the Bellagio Hotel
After all your work that’s a little heartbreaking. I’m doing the renovation in my yard because of a highway of ruts in my lawn. Fortunately I’m starting after the fact. Your insights are still very helpful in all this. Thanks man!
You’ll enjoy the irrigation system certainly over what you had. I have a system and it’s a rainbird! I am updating mine too to the hydra wise system like you just put in. Mine fortunately won’t need all the installation cause it’s existing! Just the main controller. I think both of us will be pleased when all is said and done. I am just amazed at how so many things I’ve converted to this technology! No one who knows me would of thunk it lol..oh well I can’t wait to hear how you enjoy having a official irrigation system now! You will I assure you. Congratulations!!!
Oh and also if your controller is WiFi comparable like my rain bird is. Get the app on your phone it’s great. Enjoy sitting on your porch and watching the zones run. Oddly satisfying.
Did my system myself 10y ago. Five weekends of heavy work but lots of fun and massive satisfaction. I also know every inch of the system and how it works. I have to say though that these machines are impressive and they do much much less damage to the lawn after all. At least in comparison to what I have done :)
Where did you learn to do this yourself? I really want to do this but can’t justify the price of a professional. Haven’t found any resources that really outline the issues to look for or any of the more complicated aspects.
I feel for you man! Knowing the depth that you go to make your lawn look as good as it does, that's the first thing I thought to myself...the trencher is ruining his perfect grading in his lawn. Looks like based on the date of this video, you got it back to its pristine shape.
Wow! Congrats on getting it done. Can't imagine the mixture of pain + joy you were feeling as they tore up your lawn to do it. It'll be worth it. Definitely a good idea to record it carefully. I KNOW the pain of not knowing where your lines/valves are - NOT fun!
Despite the irritation of having to repair, it does set you up with some great content generation for the channel ;-) I have to do manual sets at my place and would love to have it automated. Congrats on getting there. I also have never seen that style of pipe set. The last one I ever did was rigid pcv. I love the idea of the pex without having to trench all the lines!!
Thanks for sharing, Ryan. I just found your UA-cam channel and I’m so glad I did. I’m a new home owner and super excited to make my lawn look like yours. Been binge watching your videos lol I am now subscribed and bell notifications are on!
Ryan, Jeff Ditto here. Installed last fall. Best thing I did for my lawn in 38 years. It looks like you hired a very competent irrigation contractor - I was impressed!
This is amazing work to get the lawn looking like that. I’m just glad that where I live, if I just water on hot days, I’m light years ahead of the rest of the neighborhood! Fingers crossed a professional like yourself doesn’t move in.
Hey its well worth it I had my system installed in April. Best thing I ever did especially the Wi-Fi feature damage took a month or so to repair but September is right around the corner . but anyway when they did mine it was hard to watch especially that dam tractor rolling all over my lawn wish I would of went to work that day . greetings from long island NY
So I was reading the other day about rolling lawns. Apparently it’s not bad for it if not done more than a few times a week and even has some benefits, there’s a ton of info about rolling putting greens. It’d be super cool if you got in touch with a golf course and borrowed one of those putting green rollers and used it. Fried eggs golf just got one. Looks like a crab and Connor ward would be seriously jealous.
Super happy for you with the watering system. Questions: How much did it cost? How many sprinkler heads where needed and did you decide where there where places? What’s piping did you need in the basement and why? I thought they hook watering system to water spigot? Sorry for all the questions but plan to do as well soon. Thxs.
Safe to say he probably can’t get to answering everyone’s questions, he has a lot of subscribers. Generally, the contractor will draw up the plans based on type of landscape and water supply. Spigots generally do not provide the adequate volume/pressure required to run a system that large. Main lines are generally 3/4” or 1” where as spigots are 1/2”. I’m guessing this system cost him upwards of $7-8k. Not including the cost to fix the damage caused by their sloppy work.
My lawn is nearly double his size and I have 10 zones and paid 4k...and that is on the high end if I really shopped around in might have gotten it for closer to 2500 but I was in a rush and had used the same company at a previous house and was pleased with their work
If I had a lawn that nice, I would have to inject heroine into my brain with a turkey baster to see it get torn up and all the heavy equipment putting ruts into my carefully manicured lawn. Ryan, you're a better man than I. Although I'm not surprised to see so much thoughtful consideration given to every detail, up to and including an app that allows you to control the water application.
Nice Ryan, great setup. Shame about the damage but now you know what the next projects are going to be and you will have it back to what it was in no time 😁
Awesome yard ! I'm trying to figure out if I want to go with the hydrowise or the rachio, definitely something to think about. I think I would have rather had my installation like you had done because I have the ancient equipment. Man it's gonna be epic when you get everything leveled back out !
Looks great! I thought the damage was fairly minimal compared to what I experienced in my yard and other systems I have seen put in. I am excited to see how you level it all. I have similar issues in my yard.
I would have installed a full garden drip line irrigation system like 15 cm below the grass. Works amazing, you won't see anyting, never fails and saves water.
I have the Hunter Pro-HC controller and love it. It’s been my only one, so I can’t compare it to any others, but the options/configurations seem endless.
It might be your only one. My sister and brother in-law have their Hunter system for twenty one years and have only replaced one head. It was replaced due to winter damage from a snowblower. Otherwise they’ve never had a malfunction. Twenty one years. That is incredible quality control. Wishing You the best of luck with yours as well.
I’ve never seen an install like that with those yellow caps that go over the blue pipe. That’s pretty ingenious. You should have a well to water with if your not already doing that. My bill dropped over $200 a month after switching. The water is cheap but you pay for sewage. I think the tire grooves will level out. They do here , but we have more sand. I had a guy drop bricks on my lawn and it all disappeared. Good luck
@@ryanknorrlawncare yeah this time of year is rough for all the northern lawns. And my neighbors just seeded a bunch of bare spots yesterday lol talk about bad timing.

Looks great! Please please please do a video again of how to level. Especially with the big, deep dents. I have the same problem after a well and septic was put in and I’m not sure the best way to fill in the holes without killing the grass. Or should I just reseed Thanks!
Any tips for how to help your lawn recover faster and or repair tips for the post in-ground installation. They used the same equipment on my heavy clay soil and I can still see the tire mark depressions in the lawn..... :( Any tips to help repair would be much appreciated. I will plan to top dress/level and over seed in the fall but just curious if there was something I could do before then. Any help is appreciated.
Try to get a decent amount of water on it to settle things as much as possible. Rolling wouldn't do miracles but could help some if the ground was somewhat soft.
Sweet. Take measurements of where the lines are relative to pavement edges etc while the scars are still visible. It might save you time digging them up in the future.
I have a similar issue with soil compaction on my lawn but not from a sprinkler installation and I am not going to be able to add top soil to correct it. I think I need to cut it out and backfill the area with soil and then relay the sod. What do you think and is this something that you will need to do to your lawn? A video on this would be nice.
Ryan, have you planned on doing a follow up video on your sprinkler system? Are you still happy with all your decisions? What would you do differently with either components or location of the installed parts? How is the Hunter controller working out for you? I am about to get an irrigation system installed and looking for thoughts and ideas. Thanks.
Looks good! I run the Rain Bird system, I also had the "tire track" issue, within a month wasnt really an issue anymore. Hopefully yours pans out the same!!

Ive had half a dozen breaks in mine over the past 10 years alone.
I’m glad you pulled the trigger. Prefect setup. Blade trencher and Hunter and Hydrawise. I love my system. Great control and quality

I would
congrats on the new system.
