The king is back, baby!! Love the videos, but I would love them even more if you would add a cost breakdown. Use this comment as a like button if you would want to know that info!
He probably won’t mention cost because a lot of this is probably covered by sponsorship with him mentioning the names of what he uses, and then them donating the materials for the projects.
Costs vary widely depending on specific products, accessories, overall system design, your chosen contractor and collateral costs for plumbing, electrical, wifi, etcetera.
Automated, customizable irrigation management, however, is priceless!
All the progress you’ve made with the plots just hand watering alone. Your hard work is being greatly rewarded. Congratulations and I can’t wait to see what’s next
Wow another milestone in your dream Ryan. If variety is the spice of life you're one spicy Dude 😆. Thanks to you and Kelsey for letting us in on this journey.
As I was watching … I was just happy to hear frogs and birds again 😂😂 can’t wait to see the irrigation in action 🎉
Those frogs are so loud! haha
I bet you’re sooo pumped for this!! Irrigation is a super fascinating part of lawn care.
When utility becomes art. It's going be a symphony of water.
Exciting stuff Ryan! I’m sure your pumped about your new irrigation system!
Thanks for taking the time to share your progress! Like myself and others, looking forward to see all of your hard work come along.. Cheers Ryan!
Nice! Two wire systems are the future
This will be a game changer for your schedule buddy.
Thanks for sharing, congratulations to both and to all of us who enjoy your show.
Congrats Ryan - looks fantastic. As I stated what seems like a long time ago now during that video, community/City water supply always trumps private well from a lending perspective. Having two sources is a huge plus for you.
Nice. Rainbird 5000 plus heads are pretty good.
The system looks good! I'm sure you are looking forward to seeing some grass now~
The property is looking GREAT!!!
I learned that RK is the green contact that destroys group texts.
I’ve been using Rainbird 5000 to water 40k sqft for about 4 years. After the 3rd season, I had to replace about 80% of the rotors. I’m installing Hunter I-20 rotors on the rest of my 3 acre property.
Edit to say: I have put over 50 tons of sand on the lawn, so maybe the sand isn’t good for the rotors.
Waiting for you to reel mow your entire property.
Then I can refer people to your channel to see a certifiable crazy man :)
Gotta say I’m jealous brother, that is one of my#law goals for this season to concentrate more on watering and irrigation to water on a schedule instead of just dragging the sprinkler out in the summer when things start to get a little brown and crispy!
Looking great. That looks like a 2 wire irrigation system and each valve box has a decoder inside of it. They are great to use like in your situation with a big place like yours. I love them because it ultimately saves on the installation cost instead of running a bunch of wires but can be a headache to repair when something breaks. Ready to see what your lawn looks like going forward!
Each solenoid is a decoder!😮
Nice setup!
You choose a really good company to put in the irrigation company!
🫢 holly molly! I cannot wait to see the grass. I’m so excited
I took probably 24 hrs to do my 3 zone and ~200ft of pipe, I do not blame you at all for getting some professional help.
Could always put in some large above ground water storage tanks and just fill by constantly pumping from the well, then use that reserve to water from.
Can't wait to see you run the well dry and create sink holes hahaha
Great video! I'm looking forward to getting to work on my yard.
Excited to see some grass on that plot! I can already tell very early morning waterings are in your future to avoid all that wind.
It's a major issue around here in spring but let's be honest, almost all the time haha
Wow Ryan.......You must be excited...........Lots of zones!!!!
That's going to be one heck of a system to have to blow out for winter.
Great video and great property! So much done and so excited for you! :)
I too have a Mac and Android phone! The yard is going to look great!
Great job 👏 👍🏻
looking great!!!!
They should have installed swing joins on all of your rotors. Once the soil settles your heads might start to show and you'll hit them with your mower. Also if you drive over it with a ride on mower I will put pressure directly on the pipe below which can snap. Swing joints have give and can be lowered or raised to meet grade.
Also get a Drive for your well instead of a pressure tank and switch. Saves space and gives you constant pressure regardless of the GPM of each zone. Also has built in pump protection. Look into a Pentek Intelli Drive
Big project. Looking good.
Nice! I'd be interested in a video on how one wire controls all those zones. 😮
What a project 👍
Wow Ryan, 31 zones? I bet that cost a pretty penny for the complete system! Good luck with the front yard, I don't think I would have put the back flow on the outside exposed to the weather? I can see that you have constant wind up there on the top of the hill. Take care and don't work too hard, everything is looking fantastic!
Mine and everyone else's where I live are installed outside (not sure if it's code) and we are in a similar climate to Ryan. The RPZ is taken off and stored inside and connections covered when the system is winterized in the fall.
Not left outside for winter taken out and put in the house when winterized
Backflows and entire systems are flushed before cold weather so this should not be a problem.
a well done project
two remarks:
1) rural water is chlorinated, not good for soil life in long term application as it basically sterilizes the soil, well water is definitely better
2) wouldn't like to do the pre-winter blow out of the shallow pipelines and sprinklers, will be "a lot of fun" but there's no other way with the irrigation systems. I have only 7 zones and this is my least favorite garden work I do
I had irrigation installed on my property just a few weeks ago. I have about 40k square feet of turf so it was desperately needed as I plan on renovating the back 25k this fall. I have two wells on my property so everything is running off the second well that doesn't deal with my home. I also went with a rainbird system. I like being able to set it on my phone or the main terminal at the well. It changes what you can do with turf.
that is such a big project, you couldnt handle doing it by urself!!!! good decision
Damn! Can't believe you can get that much water from such a shallow well. Mine in Johnston, IA for my 3+Acre 24 Zone irrigation is approx 500ft with the pump @ around 350ft
Last week I used the cheap meat thermometer I had from the grocery store to check the ground temp. It worked lol.
You will discover one of life's greatest pleasures soon ... on a beautiful summer evening the sound of impact sprinklers echoing across the landscape. Nice irrigation system. Will you be using your drone with infrared camera lens to monitor the plots ?
I chose rainbird when I did my system (built and installed entire system myself, so much digging) rainbird is by far the best system out there. Also, if you have the pressure/flow rate you can always put in some golf course professional heads that’ll cover massive areas with a single head
As a contractor who has been installing for 15 years and have used rainbird products, I hate to inform you rainbird products are kind of crap. For every hunter sprinkler head I replace, I replace 3 rainbirds..valves are a even worse ratio.
And their controllers suck as well
Dang man I thought you would have RD come lay it out with GPS . Jk can’t wait to see more of your videos.
Nice
Can you show a more in depth video, or maybe post pictures on the fittings or design of the rural water to well water cross hook up? I am wanting to do something similar but can't figure out how to designing it safely.
Will you be mowing your new lawn with the ventrac reel attachment?
IVM is a sweet controller!
Did you add a flow sensor to the system?
For the smaller yards I recommend the RVANs. They are great sprinklers that withstand my heavy winds
I never used those. I’ve only used the MPR.
How bad is the pressure once u get up to the house? I mean u can always have a booster pump installed if needed. So it will push the water more
I know you’re not into irrigation like I am but could you tour the whole system with it on, I’d really appreciate that
What's the plan for the spring time front yard?
Hey Ryan,
I’m enjoying your videos. Question, We are now just coming out of winter and the snow is now gone off my lawn as of today. I want to put prodiamine down this spring and notice my ground temperature is 52 degrees today. However I want to clean up my lawn with a lite dethatching. Can I dethatch after a prodiamine treatment? How many days in the 55 degree soil temperatures for a prodiamine treatment? Kip
What kind of grass are you planting by the house? Perennial Rye (Sissy Grass - Connor W.) or KBG?
No way, I self installed sprinklers last fall and used the same blue tube. I’ve never seen anyone do it, but figured it was a good option. Glad to see it being used, now I’m feeling better about my choice.
They used that same stuff at my old place
Blue is easier to see if you have to dug it up.
what kind of blue pipe were you installing. looking to kick off my irrigation project in a couple weeks.
does every zone split off the controller and every sprinkler in a zone splits off of that zone's line? or does every sprinkler split off at the controller? hopefully my question makes sense :) i was hoping you would explain how the plumbing works.
Looking great! I can’t wait to see you get grass near the house. Also, if you have an M1 chip on your Mac then you can run some iOS apps from it. You might want to check if they have a compatible app for M1.
Unfortunately my laptop is from 2015 and I don't think I'll be carrying my iMac down to the plots haha
@@ryanknorrlawncare Haha. Definitely not worth dragging down to the plots. Good luck deciding what to do.
m1/m2 Apple computers now can use iphone apps. I use mac but not an iphone, so it lets me use those exclusive apps
This comment just saved Ryan a couple hundred bucks.
Watching the masters makes me want to overseed my lawn with sissy grass. Any clue what ryegrass they use at augusta?
It changes depending on who has the contract I believe. Definitely makes me excited for my rye to be planted at my place soon!
I thought for a minute you struck gold at 5:40
I am really wanting to do this to my 60k sq ft lawn soon. Just not feeling brave enough yet.
I hated my rainbird controller. Switched to Rachio 3 and its been great with App integration. I only have 3 zones tho
what does a system like this roughly cost. Looking to add a irrigation to about an acre on a well
Hey Ryan curious to know could you use rainwater tanks at your property? Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Yep we plan to capture off the building roof in the future
Is this the house you are moving to? No more subdivision?
Ryan,
Do you plan to eventually grow seed as in producing seed for sale that you grow there?
That would take a lot more acreage and we don't really have the exact right conditions for it here.
How many gpm do you have for your water?
First Happy Easter
Did you consider pop up impact sprinklers? If so what are the cons for those?
Pop up impacts have a tendency to flood their own area and bring debris down with them that will then have a chance to either jam or partially affect the spray on the next use.
Great video as always! The Rain Bird 5000 plus can reach up to 10meters, is there a reason for them to be so close together? thank you for all the great content!
Probably due to low pressure from the well pump.
@@titosrevenger i understand, but if thats the case they should have used the model 3500
If he has low water pressure, they should have done 4 sprinkler heads per zone. You can add an irrigation pump that will help with low water pressure problems.
Overlapping zones water twice as fast. I did close to the same system, I-20s overlapped at 15-20' apart even though they threw water twice that distance. I water 40k in 13 zones with up to 6 heads per zone.
@@watsonrk1 i see, it makes sense! thank you for the reply
Ryan, I hope you'll be doing some natural landscaping. I'd like to see some clover areas and native plants.
NIOCE!
Well, sounds like RK is gonna have to join civilization and get an iPhone 😂
Never!
Would have been nice to see the valve installation as that's typically the most confusing part of it all.
Is now a good time to put pre emergent down in southeastern Wisconsin? Or am I too late?
Should be about right
Paint your shipping container maybe with your logo?
At least house side
Is this a barn dominium
Would love to know how you chose the irrigation contractor. Nothing for or against Meston Brothers, just curious what info you gathered prior to pulling the trigger. That looks like quite the project so I’m sure you out serious thought into it.
The local sports turf people recommended them and they've done a lot of huge commercial projects and are well respected. I talked with them pretty extensively to get a plan together and they didn't think I was nuts so that's always a start 😂
Given that project I’d say that was a prerequisite. My bet is the average companies in the area would have cringed.
@@matthewbono3273 Cringed, accepted the job, and then perhaps messed it up.
After having had a well, I would not go back to city water. My well water is so perfectly filtered that it's absolutely perfect when tested. City water tastes bad. My filtration system has a softener, reverse osmosis, UV light, and a filter for undissolved particles. All that is set up with a water pump I can set the psi for so I can get the same pressure as the city at all times.
Hey Ryan. You can wire the well pump to come on without having to manually switch it. Gotta get a little creative but they have wifi switch relays you can use to turn on the pump relay. if you don’t have a wire that goes from your control unit to the well. I would also say, if you brought a pipe from the well up to the house with control unit, they should of put a wire in for this reason and future proofing: I guess a pressure tank solves this issue but there is work arounds. I’ll find your email and email you diagram quick and you can research if interested
Very good ideas. I might try to figure that out as a solution for now where I just use a switch. You can contact me through my website contact form if you have any further info. I appreciate it!
@@ryanknorrlawncare it’s called a pump start relay. Basically the zone controller turns the pump on and then the zones. Very common for irrigation on wells. I wouldn’t bother with a pressure tank unless your plan was to use a large above ground one.
@@Jraksdhs well the only thing I haven't figured out is now to turn on our well hydrants or the quick couplers since they're aren't on a zone or controlled by the irrigation controller
@@ryanknorrlawncare aren’t the well hydrants on a main? So basically they should be live when the pump is running.
@@Jraksdhs one of the hydrants is on another main that isn't associated with the new irrigation system. The quick couplers are on the main
Your need solar panels on ya house. You should catch your water to use also
You have all Mac, but no iPhone... you are missing out on some of the best integration out there between the phone and computer.
6 heads per zone seems a bit crazy
looks like you need some trees or other wind breaks down the property line!
Of course. If only they grew to full height in a year haha
Thuja Green Giants !
Should be a huge time saver not manually watering everything. Now let’s see that new rye front yard!
Hope you don't have water pressure issues with 6 heads on each zone.
That's about 20 feet from the well so the pressure is great right there
Ok good 👍
Biggest question after this video, if you have a MAC, why do you not have an iPhone?
I just don't like iOS. Love my android phone and have had one since the beginning of smart phones
@@ryanknorrlawncare I was the same way until a couple years ago. Made the switch because I use an iPad a lot. It was a good decision. Where you give up some control and possibly some more flashy hardware, the software works so great in comparison, especially when using it with other iOS products.
2:20 "666" 😈 nice.
Wish I had 20 gal a min. I have 7 at 550 feet deep and nobody will do irrigation with my well.
Also, I have city water and well drives my sprinklers. Don’t know how people afford to water off city and then also pay the sewage bill because it calculated off water input.
No swing joints ??😳😳😳
20 Gallons per minute?? I wish I had that pressure. I cant even run 3 sprinklers without a drop. Hope you dont run the well dry.
Did you move?….
sorry to be negative, but you city water and well connection would be illegal here in VA, possible cross contamination
the well water is safe to drink and they installed a backflow preventer
Not first again
Can't believe you don't have an iPhone
City of Des Moines, asking residents to not mow in May. FML
Ain't that a bunch of crap that you have to use an IPhone. McLaren did the same with their infotainment systems in theor cars.
How much of the property do you own to tge side of your driveway?
