    To you guys who find this video too long - no one forces you to watch it. Me personally, respect it so much. It goes to the core of the fragrances, which shows Marc's passion for this hobby. Nice job!

    Chose to watch this video after participating in a recent live, very well done sir. While I’m very late to your channel it’s been fun to watch these as they are very helpful even years later. Glad I made this purchase, sounds like I need to watch the Pulp video next!

    Worth the wait... Great review Marc! Not that I expected anything different when it comes to a full bottle review from the guru himself!

    Been waiting for this! The best Bal D'Afrique review on YT.
    Was rather underwhelmed by the house of Byredo when I sniffed them at the store. But this was one of the last I smelt and it instantly took my breath away. Happy to have it in my collection.

    Absolutely worth the hype.. I have the smaller bottle but will be purchasing the larger when I run low… I imagine it will be in my collection for many years to come

    Fantastic review Marc! Since you've sampled the Atelier Line recently, I'd be interested to hear your to hear your thoughts on how this compares to Atelier's Vetiver Fatal. To my nose, these are much in the same vein, and Vetiver Fatal is one of the few from the line that actually has a decent dry-down. Great to see you kickin out the content and firing on all cylinders again!

    Oh, this is one of my most loved perfumes, especially for summer. And it does resemble Atelier Cologne - Vetiver Fatal, but VF is less sweet and with a more prominent vetiver, dryer and it's also more masculine than Bal d'Afrique.

    GREAT review Marc!👍👍 I just received a sample of this ( my first from the house) and I really really love it. You really got the nail on the head with this one!
    Btw.. I must say, I LOVE when you refer to Fragrances as "SHE!" 👍👍

    Great video Marc. Interesting you love the Opening and I LOVE the Drydown! Great fragrances Gypsy Water, Baldelier, this one, and Sunday cologne are great. Have not tried Pulp. Love the blend also.

    The resemblance with Vetiver Tonka is simply stunning!!! Since I already had the Hermes it is a pass for me: love the tagetes and black current but both the two notes and the fragrance are short lived compared to Vetiver Tonka. The review is great, as always!

  • @sergemunitz1153
    @sergemunitz1153 4 роки тому

    Hey, Marc, how about that Vetiver Tonka review/comparison you promised? Also, you are spot on with the use vetiver here: the use of vetiver here reminds me also of the use of Oud in Creed's Royal Oud (it's there but really behind the scenes, if you like, and not the star of the show).

  • @SONICE69
    @SONICE69 6 років тому

    An absolutely superb fragrance! Vetiver Tonka is just a tad- a tad better imho, but Bal D’Afrique is simply stellar. If you honestly do like this Scent my friend- you’ve gotta gotta see what they’ve created in WestBrook by Byredo.... I got a bottle from Barney’s a few years back and that frag is Bal D’Afrique taken to a whole different level......🤙🏼

    If you like this. You will also like Atelier Vetiver Fatal. The dry down of VF is similar, but fresher and leans more masculine.

    having said that i really want u to try nishane sultan vetiver. its a piece of art. vetiver never done before, busy and complex.

    I love this one but I’m telling you try Banana Republic Pure White, it’s vey close for a fraction of the price. Byredo is better but if you don’t have the dough it’s a good alternative

    Smells just like Hermes Vetiver Tonka. Although VT has an elegance to it...but the smell is very similar.

    Bal d'Afrique leans decidedly feminine. Unisex yes but many unisex scents lean one way or another. This one, as reflected in the Fragrantica rating, leans decidedly fem. Reminds me of Elysium by Roja. For now I'll choose Elysium because of the "pretty" fem aspect of Bal d'Afrique, but it IS a very, very nice scent.
    The performance of this is underrated based on my initial test rating. This thing wouldn't seem to go away and gave me wafts throughout the day.

    Bal D'Afrique is pretty nice and my favorite from Byredo. However, I do not find it all that unique since it largely mirrors Vetiver Tonka which, in my opinion, is a better fragrance...but that's subjective since it also excellent quality. Additionally, Pal Zileri released Viaggio d`Africa which was outdid both the aforementioned fragrances and spanked them on price. I'm so glad that I picked-up three backup bottles when they were $30 back in 2014 because they are not rather difficult to find...but still can be had for under 100 bucks. Enjoyed.

      Really? I've never tried Bal D'Afrique but I do have a bottle of Vetiver Tonka and it's definitely not fruity at all like what Marc describes in the video. I'm not really a vetiver fan, and I don't really where it that much. I'm more inclined to try Bal D'Afrique as Marc describes it as a "Vetiver for vetiver haters" -- which is probably right up my alley! The only Vetiver fragrances I like are Encre Noir and TF's Grey Vetiver, and to be honest I really don't even wear those that often lol.

    im watching this after purchase..as I just don't get it..Ive given it several tries..too weak..more like a cologne to splash..tho today I layered with Accord Oud..and now were talking...finally some punch.

    I can’t stop chiming in: Marc, you mentioned Jerome from Atelier Cologne and it’s interesting that they created Vetiver Fatale which is a real poor man’s Bal D’Afrique😳

    For me Bal D' Afrique is just ok, nothing special, there are several Creed's out there that are better. Baudelaire also by Byredo is a better scent imho.

    I don’t get what’s so great about this one. I have a 7ml decant from Max Aroma and it’s very lite. I can barely smell it. Someone was selling a barely used bottle for $80 and I almost blind bought it . Now I’m so glad I didn’t. What a weak and booooring frag. I don’t get any vetiver just a weak citrus with some marigold. Then it’s gone. In no way is this edp. It’s not even edp. It’s cologne for sure. I know colognes and all Byredo I smelt are colognes. I tried only about 10 or so but all are very very weak. I’m not a fan of this house. Maybe if they priced the scents accordingly as the weak colognes they are. I hate when perfume houses lie about the strength of their scents. It’s why I can’t stand those dupe houses like DUA who falsely claim to be extrait, meanwhile everyone is complaining the frags don’t last more than an hour. I guess they assume everyone is an idiot and can’t tell. And oh my goodness they have so many fake 5 star reviews. it’s disgusting . And so obvious
