@@wbball15 I don't think I perceive micromanagement or condescension from Ron Pratt. The sense I get of him is that he knows his equipment and his craft so well that he is best suited to assume operational command, develop a plan of attack, and execute the plan with the help of his staff. There are privates and there are generals, and Ron seems to be a good general to me at least.

Most companies only use Verifiable experience and I was also told that the Military very rarely actually verifies experience and can give information about what kind of trucks the person actually drove. To me it seems like a safety issue where you have a person saying one thing but nobody with the power to prove it will or can give that information to them. Also I've worked for multiple Mega carriers and they do training for military experience and you get a sticker for your truck for the force you were in. Swift and Prime encourage ex-military to apply with them. Now if you have a bad personal driving record than no mater the experience you have they wont hire you. DWI, speeding, accidents can disqualify you they look at that before the even look at your work history.

Honestly the driver should be able to tell if it's too damaged to move out of the parking lot, but that was 15-20 years ago. Drivers these days have trouble checking their coolant. If it were my truck I would be talking to the tow truck driver and asking them what he thought. If it t needed to be inspected I would have roadside come check it out. Public safety is number one after something like that.

You must have 36 months of experience as a holder of a Class 5 (automobile) driver's licence or probationary licence

You must have 24 months of experience as a holder of a Class 5 (automobile) driver's licence or probationary licence if you have:
      - completed training leading to a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in truck transportation issued by the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur

The stores at the company terminals sold the shirts and ballcaps cheap, cheaper than buying the same at Wally World. Shoes were either Velcro running shoes(on and off fast) or depending on what I had to do, steel toe engineer boots(still on and off fast).I had very few problems with lack of respect from shippers and receivers. He said that many drivers don’t pay, or can’t drive worth a damn. They’ve had to yank guys from the truck just to get it in place.

You get to see the fancy tow truck tools when your alternator on your new Peterbilt catches on fire.
Weirdest thing that ever happened to me. Driving toward Virginia coast near Richmond. Load was heavy, close to 79,000 total. Truck started feeling wrong. Nothing was wrong on the guages, but, something was wrong. I pulled into a rest area before Richmond. Walked around the truck, checked everything. I couldn't find an issue.
Got back in the truck and kept driving. Past Richmond now and my voltage drops, and I see smoke. I pull off the side of the road, pop the hood and my alternator is on fire! It doesn't even make sense in my mind. But, there are flames coming out of the alternator.
I forget for a moment that the fire extinguisher is next to the seat. I see it every time I get in or out of the truck. Finally grab it. Unload it on the alternator, and I think I am fine. Takes a moment and pops back on fire. So now I am on my phone calling 911, waving my empty extinguisher at traffic. I couldn't hear the operator on the phone, so I just repeated, that my truck was on fire and I was near this exit on I-64 east bound.
Another driver pulls his truck over and stops in front of me. He grabs a case of water out of his truck and we start cooling the alternator down with bottled water. I thank him and he gets back in his truck and on the road.
About now, there is no traffic and the calvary has arrived in half a dozen emergency vehicles. Mind you the fire is out now. After they came and went, I spent 6 hours sitting there waiting for the tow truck. And we dropped the truck off at a yard in Richmond, and he dropped me off at a hotel where I sat till the Peterbilt place opened Monday morning. They exclaimed that they had never seen anything like it. And I could do nothing but agree.
That Peterbilt was nice, but, the reason I got it was it broke down for the driver before me. And after this it broke down again 30 minutes out of the yard in Kansas City. So, I asked my dispatch for another truck. And that was the last I saw of that truck. But, somewhere, I have pictures of that damaged alternator, and where I scratched my name out of boredom in the asphalt at the side of the road. This was about 2009-2010. So, the Virgin Mobile flip phone I was using didn't exactly have a great camera.

What percentage of the driving population am I? I speak English, wear boots, and have never , ever had this happen to me. Ads a drdiver for over 50 years, I have only been hauled in by a HAPPY HOOKER once due to the ECM failing. The use of foreign drivers on our nations hiways is an appalling thought to me. This channel has helped me as a 4 wheel driver to be extra careful around semi's and all drivers do stupid stuff from time to time but now not so much.

When I first started trucking in 2017, I hauled hopper bottom trailers regionally, loaded with fertilizer, grain, soybean meal, etc. The Cargill plant in Savage, MN had a super narrow scale that dropped off 2-3 feet on each side. As a new truck driver I was always worried about something like this happening. Now I blow through narrow road construction like it’s nothing (not speeding, but some of those roads get really narrow). That tollway heading East off of Peace Road in DeKalb, IL is super narrow too if you don’t go through the wide load lane.
