What is a Community Wellness Hub?

NRPA believes that park and recreation agencies are perfectly suited to serve as community wellness hubs, leveraging their role as trusted gathering places that connect every member of the community to essential programs, services and spaces that advance health equity, improve health outcomes and enhance quality of life. Community wellness hubs meet the unique needs of their communities, including through access to healthy foods, physical activity, social connections, and connection to nature. We have always been wellness hubs for the community and and argument can be made that P&R is the original public health system in the U.S.

So many families are not receiving SNAP benefits. During the summer months, Community Wellness Hub partnerships are the link to reaching marginalized families in their neighborhoods.
