I am lucky to not use social media, because if I saw that again, I would need more therapy then what I already get.
POV Australian Parliament: WE NEED TO STOP YOUNG PEOPLE FROM GETTING USE TO TECHNOLOGY THAT THEY WILL NEED IN THE FUTURE. Even if it will make them even more depressed 🎉🎉🎉
Maybe they can go outside and move around which helps with depression. Kids are already extremely tech savvy. They will find a work around and leave all this nonsense in their dust.
i agree that social media is bad but the thing is that without social media kids arent really going to have that much of a social life either with holidays also being 6 weeks or longer during christmas, a lot of kids will probably get lonely. to make matters worse, the age that you are legally allowed to get a job in australia is 14, which means we are able to get a job before social media??? which doesnt make sense at all
Also the reason is, is that parents aren’t educating their kids about the dangers! They say “oh social media harmed my child” when they didn’t teach them how to avoid that, so parents just play victim.
Always remember that social media platforms have been engineered from the ground up to be more addictive than crack cocaine. I've seen people go through genuine withdrawal in the span of a couple hours throughout a school day when they can't access their phone.
Maybe in getting bored and lonely ,like every previous generation, kids might actually go outside,or even better, get to know themselves,be still and reflect, not the constant stimulation. It’s still just about the whole digital id thing and more social scoring though.
Honestly, It's a great thing to o ban children under 16 from social media. They're the first generation with the ability to have such access. When i was still in school we used Hotmail and barely even got into Myspace to communicate after school. As far as I'm concerned kids shouldn't have access whilse they are in school. They are developing minds, that don't need what comes with social media these days.
I think this is a great idea. They will have to interact in person. My children won’t be getting phones until they are 16. I think this will help children. I’ve noticed a lot of adults who were raised on phones and social media don’t have the social skills that I did. Sad 😢
Well then you're utterly idiotic, I have been doxxed on the internet before and I am still advocating for it to not be banned for those under 16. Amazing how some adults can be so stupid later on in life. "ThOsE dAmN pHoNeS aRe RuInInG yOuR lIfE!!!!!!1!" sounding ahh. Also the "They will have to interact in person" part isn't entirely true, you do understand that this doesn't affect texting right?
Does anyone know the punishment if teens are found using social media? You know… so I can definitely avoid that punishment by definitely following the totally not stupid law?
love how the government acts like social media is the only thing that hurts people's mental health, like, something else they could do is DO SOMETHING ABOUT BULLYING AND SET A LIMIT TO THE AMOUNT OF WORK/HOMEWORK THAT THEY ARE FORCED TO DO FOR AT LEAST 10 YEARS FROM K-10
EVERYONE will have to prove their age. Even if you are 90 years old you will have to prove that you are over 16 years old. This will apply to everyone. There should have been more education on dealing with online bullying. There should be education available for parents about online bullying. You can block other people on an app. Swimming can be dangerous. We teach people how to swim. If you don’t know how to swim you don’t go in deep waters or strong tides. We don’t ban everyone from swimming!!! There should be a similar approach to children’s internet use.
Teenagers are always going to find a way around these things, and we as humans are drawn to the forbidden. Take the myth of Pandoras box For example, she was drawn to the box because she was told not to open it. She was drawn to the forbidden because that is how our minds work. I honestly think their is no point in this ban as previously stated, teenagers WILL ALWAYS find a way around these bans. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
I wish Labour would stop giving in to the temptation to go full nanny state. I like a lot of their policies for actually governing but it always comes with the caveat of them messing and poking at stuff that isn’t their business. They need to stick to roads, electricity and water and stop trying to get involved in backseat parenting.
And then we lose any sort of control .social scoring enters more. Hope my gen dies out before cash is decreed not legal tender. Seems you have grown up in an era of no privacy.shame really.
The main idea behind this is to try to protect kids from the 24 hour obsession which is making it so easy for bullies and trolls to get to them. It's well-intentioned but I can't see it working.
It’s also partly because parents aren’t educating their kids, so they play victim that “their child was harmed by social media” when they didn’t do shit before, and what more are they going to learn by being 16? It doesn’t mean they suddenly know more.
Should be noted that it's been proved that large amounts of use of social media platforms directly correlates (probably has a part in causing as well) a myriad of mental health issues. Not to mention that most platforms are engineered to be as addictive as possible. To the point that it's been proven that crack cocaine is actually LESS addictive than a lot of social media platforms.
"I don't think teens are going to set up a business profile" Me, a teen who actually did have a linkedin profile at one point- (I deleted it though, I'd only set it up because I needed it for one specific thing which ended up being a waste of time because it didn't help me anyway lol) But I'm turning 16 like a month after the ban goes into place anyway, if it even works out, so I'm not really concerned about it-
@ned_Kelly1880 I have literally never met a single person who doesn't have a phone and a SIM card, even in schools (grade 7+). Also what SIM card costs as much as a phone?? I don't remember SIM cards costing $1000+.
Yeah, it's definitely the kids that are being harmed by social media and not all the adults buying into obvious bullshit with no evidence because someone posted about it on the dead bird site.
It has been scientifically proven that most social media platforms are more addictive than crack. I agree that they shouldn't have gone about it this way though.
Lets not forget that being exposed to an onslaught of gambling ads is okay though - because they give 'us' money

Never in my life would I hear Jimmy Giggle swear 😭
I’m an Australia who turned 16 two months ago
…heheheheheheheeehe
Comedy gold! Ah life is crazy sometimes!
So glad these sketches are back!
Nailed it. Wonderful research.
A year to figure it out LOL they mite not be in power by then lol 😂🤣😂🤣
We can only hope
Anything the "trial" proves to be a failure or damaging to vulnerable kids (lack of access to peer support for DV, neuro diverse and queer) we can guarantee LNP will fast-track the worst of it.
If we are subjected to a Potato Dutton government, shit is going to get fucking real - as we see is happening in the US.
The opposition will likely keep. Both support banning those that can't vote them out anyway.
The libs are just as bad. First heh didn’t vote, then it went through with all the crossing of the floor,
As a 15 year old Australian, I am fine with this. I live in Esperance, and the Salmon Gums incident was... Traumatizing... The video was on snapchat, and my friend Harrison had screen recorded it for me. It was a video of someone with an axe, killing someone. I am lucky to not use social media, because if I saw that again, I would need more therapy then what I already get.
He went from making an alright Aussie accent to just talking gibberish, 100% approved
kinda crazy that they target social media but other certain sites are much worse.
Yeah But ,
Every school demanded that students have a laptop or tablet
FFS and computer whiteboards
AU Government: Everyone needs to use computers for everything. It's the fewcha!
Also AU Government: No! Not like that!
@ haha “ Squid ward “ future future future “ 😂
POV Australian Parliament: WE NEED TO STOP YOUNG PEOPLE FROM GETTING USE TO TECHNOLOGY THAT THEY WILL NEED IN THE FUTURE. Even if it will make them even more depressed 🎉🎉🎉
I would agree if most social media platforms weren't engineered to be more addictive than crack.
@@Colours01-c5ryeah that’s not gonna work the way your making it sound on a generation literally raised in the golden age of technology
brilliant summary!
Thank fuck youtube isnt included in the ban
You tube is already so heavily monitored, and will only put shit up that fits the latest propaganda. Getting nearly as bad as Wikipedia
They are very much considering it actually
@Speed92222 oh shit
i’ve read the entire legislation 5 times, yes this sums it up very well
And this is pretty much what actually happened 🙄
Love ya Jimmy!
Literally who is this gonna stop
other funny thing is, with Groups in Telegram, Messenger, Snapchat, and so on... turns them into a SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM
when UA-cam showed up i started laughing so badly wtf 🤣
Dave has become the new Jason.
Does anyone know the punishment if teens are found using social media? You know… so I can definitely avoid that punishment by definitely following the totally not stupid law?
Pretty sure it’s a hefty fine. Yk, not for the kids, the parents who won’t even know they’re on it
Individuals won't be fined. But if websites are found to not do enough to prevent under 16s, they can be fined a large amount.
It’s all about forcing consent…
lol as an Aussie I love this 😂
Reckon I grew up with Dave- does that mean they have my face on the system? am I being tracked?? God Damn it Dave!
Down with the corrupt Australian goverment
huh, not suspicious at all mr goverment
love how the government acts like social media is the only thing that hurts people's mental health, like, something else they could do is DO SOMETHING ABOUT BULLYING AND SET A LIMIT TO THE AMOUNT OF WORK/HOMEWORK THAT THEY ARE FORCED TO DO FOR AT LEAST 10 YEARS FROM K-10
i’m mildly concerned
Life in this modern world is so absurd .. is it painful or just laughable?
Both...
Australia is such a mess.
Will be far worse under Potato Dutton.
It’s fine, this is the only issue rn
😂😂😂😂one of your best yet!
Poor baby. How will you cope?
@@akashajones6079This will create EVEN more government control over our lives. It will be like China.
Do you have Squid Scrotum Serum in your merch store?
"UNEXPECTED ITEM IN BAGGING AREA"🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥
I wish Labour would stop giving in to the temptation to go full nanny state. I like a lot of their policies for actually governing but it always comes with the caveat of them messing and poking at stuff that isn’t their business. They need to stick to roads, electricity and water and stop trying to get involved in backseat parenting.
We all know it's about control. It's going to happen, and cash is over too.
People also use social media as escapism from issues in real. They might have a bad school or home life. But have friends online they connect with
Should be noted that it's been proved that large amounts of use of social media platforms directly correlates (probably has a part in causing as well) a myriad of mental health issues. Not to mention that most platforms are engineered to be as addictive as possible. To the point that it's been proven that crack cocaine is actually LESS addictive than a lot of social media platforms.
@@ParoXyzmm Citations?
Those trolls and bullies will just resort to mailing insults or straight up coming to them physically instead of online
THEY PASSED IT
As a teen- I’m omw to code my own social media website 😅
I think the ban will affect people with disabilities
😂
imagine not ever thinking social media wouldn't end up where it is.
"I don't think teens are going to set up a business profile"
Me, a teen who actually did have a linkedin profile at one point-
(I deleted it though, I'd only set it up because I needed it for one specific thing which ended up being a waste of time because it didn't help me anyway lol)
But I'm turning 16 like a month after the ban goes into place anyway, if it even works out, so I'm not really concerned about it-
I love how teens are seperate from everybody else as if they are not human

How does albanese expect us to talk to our friends without having to meet up with them or search an ancient phone book to call a nonexistent land line
You can use the phone number on the phone you have... To, you know? .... Text or call them?...
You gotta spend nearly the same price as a phone on a SIM card to be able to do so and what about those who don’t have the money to buy one
@ned_Kelly1880 I have literally never met a single person who doesn't have a phone and a SIM card, even in schools (grade 7+). Also what SIM card costs as much as a phone?? I don't remember SIM cards costing $1000+.
@@ParoXyzmm my parents SIM cards cost around 70ish bucks a month for 50 gigs I think

@@ParoXyzmmsadly I have lost any faith in any “ scientists”,or “ experts” or institutions,or politicians. However I do agree it is addictive.
Shouldn’t this be up to the parent?
Australia didn't ban social media. They banned kids using it. Very different.
