By no means is Minecraft: Story Mode "good". The writing is not the most original, and the dialogue is incredibly awkward (especially in episodes one to four). However, if you have the right sense of humor, it can be insanely funny. I always felt that it took the source material seriously, incorporating things that people would actually build in game like mob grinders etc. It felt like it was taking advantage of being in the Minecraft world.
It may have been cringy and had a lot of stupid moments, but in many ways it had a lot of heart and felt like it was made by people who cared.

Minecraft Dungeons is actually fantastic. Still one of my favoeite Diablo clones. Where Mojan fumbled was not implementing Dungeons content into the main game.
They worked so hard to create a diverse and interesting universe just to squander it. What a shame.

Mincraft story mode is peak. It's campy but just fun and a vibe.
I understand peoples criticisms and dislike for story mode but its genuinly my favorite interpretation of Minecraft , I love its world and the things that happen in it. MC Earth was just an attempt to copy the popularity of Pokémon go and it simply didn't work. Dungeons is a genuinly fun game, and all its additions really fit into the Minecraft world at least lore wise, a precursor to modern Minecraft. It is a actually good game. Minecraft Legends is just a bad game, it unfortunately just was not well made. If done differently it could've maybe succeeded but probably not. And the movie, I can't even say anything, it seems to have stuff from dungeons and Legends which could be interesting. Who knows, we'll just have to wait and see.

To further add to the points about successful adaptations and spinoffs, Team Fortress 2 also has some very well done narrative adaptations that stay within its IP, with a series of (recently revisited and finished) canon comics, as well as a series of iconic animated shorts also that serve the game’s trailers. (Other games like Overwatch and Apex did the same thing, but I think team fortress 2 is the best example). Valve and other developers have a model of engaging with their community by paying and sometimes hiring as developers, creators of prominent community maps, game modes and modded campaigns (valve isn’t as good at about this now, but they’ve done a good job in the past). Other game developers like Aether Studios have their workshop character creation tools for Rivals of Aether, and officially added for workshop characters to the game, as well as teased one of them for the recent sequel, and are adding more workshop characters to that sequel.
Mojang has done some community engagement where they’ve ‘officially’ released some community maps and game modes, but it’s a shame they’ve taken the Roblox route of meaninglessly incorporating community maps into bedrock’s micro transactions store for things that are free on Java. And also their moderation sucks because apparently they feature a community created skyblock map with official skyblock branding, that doesn’t come from the actual creator (who wants skyblock to be available for free).

I think Minecraft: Story Mode stayed very true to the original game. They included things like the mob grinder, which is something players actually build which is a mob farm, and the ‘Order of the Stone,’ which I think was an early title idea for Minecraft. Plus, they brought in the Far Lands, that old terrain generation glitch from the early days, as a place you could visit.
I agree that sometimes or most of the time the writing isn’t very good, but I feel some charm in there.
I also feel like the character design was really unique, both technically and aesthetically. And let’s be real here… Ivor carried the entire series!!!
There was also another somewhat of a “spinoff” Minecraft you could say, Hytale. Developed by Hypixel the owner of the practically main Minecraft servers. It's basically inspired by Minecraft itself and shows what Minecraft could technically be if they were to update their game frequently and gave what the communities want.
But of course, think again, Minecraft was so popular because it was so simple and suitable for all ages. And what carried Minecraft to it's former glory, is the amazing modding community and how much freedom they can mod and mold their favourite game into what they like, example like adding new mob and heck even ticker with the shading and optimisation of the game.
The core of the game, is it's simplicity, and they nailed that of course. And to add the sprinkles of perfection, mods and other add-ons are there to let the communities do and have whatever they want in the game.
But of course, going back to the topic of Hytale since the video were talking about “spinoff”. I really do think Hytale could've had the chance to succeeded like Minecraft does. Why? Well, take another inspired from other popular games, Valorant was inspired by CSGO/CS2, and they well damn succeeded with their game and were the only games you could say competed with games like CSGO/CS2 in their respective shooter genres.
Although Hytale isn't an official game by Minecraft, the developer were onto something big for sure, but... I don't know how the development of the game is going, and I could only hope that they didn't stop developing on Hytale since I do think it can be popular and compete with Minecraft itself. Although not a “spinoff”, but come on, would you rather see Minecraft 2 or Hytale in the future? So yeah, that concludes my essay that I could've ever made in my life.

I imagined a Rainbow Six Siege version of Minecraft with special operators with unique abilities, map destruction, rebuild and frenetic pvp. I even made player skins for the operators.
I really like dungeons and story, legends was finish, and the movie seems like it will be ok.

Really could not disagree with you more on your take of MCSM Season 2. I don't feel that your take on the characters in that season is very justified if you're gonna say that they have less personality that the Season 1 characters, for better or worse. Plus based on what you've said, I really don't know if you're actually hearing people out on why they say that Season 2 is better (not defending the writing). I feel that your take on the Season 2 is very flimsy. Though your criticisms of Season 1, I can agree more with because I do find the first season to be more bland, especially the DLC episodes.

@ Sure. Season 2, while I don't deny has bad writing, does give a better attempt at presenting better themes than the first season. I know that's not something you really tackled when discussing both seasons but I do believe that Season 2 makes a better attempt to make the story more engaging with the themes they're trying to present. The execution of those themes might fail to succeed at times (which again goes back to the writing), but I still think there was a lot more care put into CERTAIN aspects of Season 2 regarding its story, themes and choices (choices because I think Season 2 does a better job of giving more impactful choices that can affect the future arcs of SOME of the characters you interact with). Plus I've always credited MCSM for its soundtrack, which in this case I can give both seasons credit for.

Mojang really has a historical fumble with how they never updated Minecraft. Like they literally have the most popular game in the world and one of the highest grossing pieces of entertainment ever and they never once added new worlds. How is the fanbase better at updating the game than mojang themselves💀And I know they’ve added some shit but I’m not impressed with a new biome and a different colored cow after like 12 years. Like that shit should have like 20 other worlds by now if they actually were smart. I guess they can’t comprehend the idea of making new portals or something.
