6023 King Edward II Arrives on the Dartmouth Steam Railway 14th June 2018

- The first of 5 videos documenting the arrival and operation at, and departure from the Dartmouth Steam Railway.
After a frustrating journey overnight from Toddington including air-pipe failure, A380 road closure, problems at the bottom of Telegraph Hill and finally very difficult roadworks to negotiate on Brixham Road; 6023 King Edward II , known to engineering staff at Churston as the "Blue Thing” (this is Devon after all!!) eventually makes it to Churston. A load like this is mightily impressive from the roadside and totally ignoring the toll charges at the Turnpike Cottage (I wonder what the charge should have been?) both low-loaders charge up the slip road wrong-side at Windy Corner road junction whilst the busy traffic has been held back by convoy and escort staff. Having arrived safely at Churston the unloading arrangements, although complicated, need no further explanation from me. It was particularly nice to get 6023, 75014 Braveheart and 7827 Lydham Manor all “smokebox forward” in the one shot. 6023 is scheduled to work the line until September and it will be great to see her working the 1 in 60 gradients in the months to come.
What a delight to see all these magnificent steam engines coming back to life in the UK. And so many extremely passionate and talented people with video skills recording all these amazing events for people like me to enjoy watching on a big TV screen. Thank you for posting. I commend your patience Alan. Great to see how it's all done, all the effort that goes into transferring locos to locations for us to enjoy. Also, those HGV 1 guys deserve medals, that's a tight squeeze and looks impossible to manoeuvre into.

Not quite the arrival video I expected but very interesting. Looks like the heavy haulage drivers earned their keep! Looking forward to seeing videos of 6023 operating on the line.

In a perverse sort of way didn't Beeching do us a great favour by closing so many lines. Where else would we be able to run these wonderful locomotives.

Love the Kings but its in the wrong colour!, also I think they de-tuned it, when I saw it it was almost blowing off while showing 140 psi!
Closest I am going to get as it doesn't appear to be steaming now until the end of August. Oh well, another 200 odd mile round trip to see it static again.
Watched it being loaded at toddington she is a fantastic engine will look good at goodrington
