  • Before Jet Li got his Hollywood breakthrough in 1998’s Lethal Weapon 4, he was already an acclaimed actor and martial artist in China. He rose to fame when he starred as Chinese folk hero Wong Fei-hung in the first three movies of the Once Upon A Time in China series.
After making his entrance in Hollywood, Li became one of the most sought-after action stars of the 2000s, starring in movies like Romeo Must Die, Unleashed, and War.
But today the action star and martial artist is rarely seen on the big screen or in the limelight. Here is the untold truth about Jet Li.

I could said the same to Bruce, Jackie, Li, and Yen (Donnie). I have no respect for these actors as far as fighting goes. They are not tested on ring side. They are boring to watch on Movie. He was wild in "unleashed" too, which they didn't mention. His family was taken from him and he was raised like an animal, until a girl came into his life and took his collar off and taught him otherwise. Near the end we find that he was hiding from men that either killed his mom(it's been years since I've seen the movie) but his overly-aggressive fighting was great.

Much respect for Jet Li. Well done with this presentation, Looper! :) Very nice recap of the martial artist's life and career up to this point. Really happy you included his thoughts on his Romeo Must Die costar, Aaliyah. Those were very sweet sentiments he had to say about her. You know both of them were asked to be in the Matrix sequels. Would have loved to have seen them on screen together again. I really enjoy how Jet Li wanted to incorporate philosophy into his movies, which I didn't see many action actors express so intently since Bruce Lee. It was so awesome having a new Jet Li film in theaters to look forward to. I'd always do my best to see the films during opening night. I'm glad to see he's living a good life, and striving to make positive changes in the world.

I had read long ago that he only got into acting after he had injured both knees in competition. He was training as a shaolin monk at the time.
Whatever his backstory and history is does not change the fact that he is my favorite martial artist and he is a Legend. Hero is one of my favorite movies.

Now *this* was a great video, which seems to be more and more rare on this channel recently. I think I may have to revisit Romeo Must Die tonight! As a fan of Jet Li, who even lived in China for nearly a decade, I was happy to learn some stuff about him tat I didn't know. That story about the tsunami was incredible. I can't wait to see his movie about it.

One of the better youtube video's i watched since it changed my mind about someone that i thought would never be able to be done and just want to say thank god i didn't find out more about him during those Hurricanes since it would have been a huge news story if it went the other way for so many others. Also i didn't know about his health issues and that fills in some blanks for me about him and his career.

If I remember correctly Jet was a against showing that kind of affection on camera. That's why he's never had a real kiss on film. He had a quick peck with the actress who played his fiance on Once Upon A Time In China 3. But that is it.
