The poet of the piano. To say he's great means what? Even less, what does "the greatest" mean? I love his touch, it's scintillating. I love his phrasing it touches my heart! I love his choice of music. I think most of all I hear his humanity in his playing and it speaks to a sacred place in my soul. Then I think of the immeasurable hard work and study that was invested at a great cost to produce this. So much there that no one sees and so few understand leave alone can begin to appreciate it. Thank you from the heart Murray for ALL that work and sacrifice! Your music truly enriches our lives!
😊 "It speaks to a sacred place in my soul"...
yes
YES Mike, your soul Is great
Beautifully put and I could not have articulated it better. Spending hours a day on the piano for the love of it, I can only begin to imagine how hard he has worked to present us with his works of astonishing beauty. I'll add my deepest thanks to yours!
His performance is very delicate and appealing. He is one of my favorite pianists.
I really miss his recital..his Bach absolutely stunning.
One of the absolute supreme masters of the piano of the latter half of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century
Thank you for that lovely compartmentalization.
You are right.... the last one Who know to PLAY THE PIANO. A real gentleman.

Murray Perahia is one of the greats
The greatest.
One of the LAST greatest pianists with strong cultural approach....
Many, many thanks for posting this amazing recital by the pianist who, for me, is the finest in the world
In my view, Murray Perahia is certainly one of the few great ones of our time.
Such a great musician! It's a pleasure listening to him every time.
I was lucky to see him perform in Australia around the same time with a similar program. Best piano experience ever.
Murray Perahia's Bach is the best I've ever heard. Absolutely gorgeous.
Murray Perahia has always been one of my favorite classical pianists. His hands were meant to create an incredible career for classical piano.
Classical compositions are often regarded as timeless masterpieces that transcend eras. From complex symphonies to piano pieces, classical music has left a deep imprint in the history of art and continues to be revered today.
It's the most natural. It's three dimensional. It brings you to a state where you are functioning correctly.
How amazing it is that the tremendous amount of study and his intellectual analysis of a work does not dampen the emotion that Maestro Perahia brings to a performance in the least.
I enjoy his legato style that always finds and enjoys the melody in everything. He reminds me of Dinu Lipatti. It is a joy to listen to the music he makes.
I found this today. I've listened to this man but this concert was new to me. I'm so happy and
thrilled to have a chance meeting with great artist
He is the master of the thousand timbres.
Spirit comes to visit humanity with this pianist
Masetro Perahia is one of my top 5 most favorite pianists alive easily. I've attended many of his recitals, met him personally, had an autograph of his CD collection. He's a big master in piano!
Es ist wunderbar lieben herzlichen Dank!!!!
Have always enjoyed Perahia's playing - it's refined and sensitive.
with this great pianist, it is all about pacing, touch, phrasing, sensitivity and most importantly staying humble while performing and truthful to what is on the page. No extra curriculum mouvements nor mini skirts nor high heels…. 100% art. Was privileged to hear him live soon after he won Leeds. Has remained true to himself through and through. Chapeau bas, messieurs, un génie… HdB
Glad you mentioned it, just what I was thinking.
Just beautiful. What wonderful singing fingers!
What a wonderful artist. For me the highlight was the last piece played - the Chopin nocturne Op. 15 no. 1. He takes it at a more deliberate pace than other pianists, which allows the musical themes to expand gloriously.
His artfullness has always spoken to me. His unique and purposeful phrasing in particular stands out to me. It wasn't until I heard him speak here about finding a metaphor that I began to comprehend why his playing draws me in so. BRAVO!
The Bach Allemande is pure Presence, space and light. It moves, and yet it is still. It sounds, and yet it is quiet. It breathes a different breath. Words fail...
😊 Your words here resonate...Thank you
wonderful pianist, very beautiful sound, bravo!
One of the GREATS PIANIST SINCE E V E R 🙌💯😍🌹
Interprete meraviglioso di ogni autore!
My absolute Favorite pianist of all time.
Was this recent? I thought he was no longer playing public recitals, due to his health? I would LOVE to see him live. ❤❤❤
I looked up the dates of the Appassionata and the 5th Symphony and they are temporally related (1806-8) - which explains for me the 'short short short long' motif they share, and also the immense dramatic passion they contain. I must say, middle period Beethoven has a 'thing!' (But I love it all.)
Besides being always a wonderful performing artist of the highest caliber, he is also a fantastic teacher- love his masterclasses
Marvellous - still at the top!
Ein großer, bedeutender Pianist!
For me he is the best interpreter of BWV 815. Stunning interpretation
complete musical integrity.
Like all great pianists, he has a sound and interpretive approach to the music which are totally unique…I can always identify a Perahia performance as being him.
Amazing!!!!! 🌹
He is one of The bests at this momrmt
His virile Intermezzo (1:04:00) recalls Richter. Otherwise, Perahia is rather elegant, restrained. But his Chopin Impromptu is the best in the business, and his Ètude #4 rivals Richter......BRAVO from Mexico City!
Spectacular 🎹🎶
A true genius.
I agree.
Exeptionally stunning!
In the Etude Op 25 No 1 in A flat major, the pianist doesn’t play the third full bar correctly. He is playing the eleventh full bar, which is similar, by mistake. 1:36:54.
He improves with time.
Awfully fine, really superb
wonderful performance, but i dont know anyone notice he have a memory slip on 25 ,but ye, he quickly save it.what a recital, wish to go to it
Thank you so much dear for sharing also the interviews! I was wondering why Perahia's remarks on the Appassionata didn't continue after the second movement? Thanks again, Marcus.
Out of Solar System! Wonderful!!!!
Wow. Beethoven was a madman
Great concert! Weird that he didn’t play the starting note of the Chopin Scherzo.
yes.
Maybe he forgot.
Memory lapses
He did play it. The note is B flat, in both hands.
Bravo
lucky man wish I could play this well. I,m dying to be a concert pianist of some sort.
1:36:50 Why does he skip the first phrase? Very very beautifully played nevertheless.
MISTAKEN
Does anyone know if Perahia is well and playing yet?
Unfortunately, he stopped performing in 2020 or 2021. For health reasons. But exactly what the reason is is unknown.
That's good to hear. Thank you. I hope he resumes concertizing in the near future.
2020 & 2021years--covid's pandemia!
what seriously! I really wish he recovers soon :( @@EffiBriest-h5m
Notice he omits the first note of the B flat minor scherzo - apparently Rachmaninov did the same
❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👏
Murray Perahia grew up in the Bronx. Think how many baseball games he missed while he was practicing piano! Think how many baseball games regular boys saw - and now they can't play piano!
🤩superbo
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

❤❤❤
😍😍😍😍😍
I just discovered this pianist on UA-cam and oh what a joy! I absolutely love his sentiments
My god❤
Perahia: pianista ou encantador?
These constant ads are ruining the experience
“He had a special feeling for me. He invited me to Puerto Rico.” Lol
Really, you lucky duck
What was going on in Puerto Rico?
That’s what is missing, great artists that could share with the future that could pass it on. Trifonov perhaps received some. It was all wasted on Lang Lang who just wanted success and attention. As Barenboim slowly exits in poor health, who is left for those such as Youchan Lim, so young and promising?
Yuja Wang?
There are plenty of great pianists lol. Did you just forget Hamelin???

It would be so wonderful if concert pianists would avoid playing Bach altogether, as Emmanuel Ax did, because it’s too difficult to realize on the huge grand piano. Listen to this French Suite played by Glenn Gould, and perhaps you’ll hear the difference. CSo, while I love Perahia’s art, I’m so disappointed in the way he plays Bach. Any great concert pianist who plays Bach using the sustain pedal doesn’t have a grip, it’s really that simple…people who have studied with Bach keyboard works with experts know that his music isn’t his any more when it’s played like Schubert, and the playing so offends the ear that it isn’t possible to describe. The mush that stupid pedal produces in the exquisitely dense and intricate counterpoint on the grand piano turns Bach into something grotesque….it is no longer recognizable as Bach.
Whateve edition this is, it is a bain upon humanity. I cringe every time I hear someone play those unfortunate notes.
The Kalmus edition is good.
How primitiv
Of course he’s good but it’s boring. Especially the Beethoven. It lacks firepower. Too prim and proper….Chopin is prim and proper but Bach and Beethoven are not.
Baloney! His playing and inspiring and highly musical.
This Appassionata has no fire?? Goodness me, did you listen to the coda? And I really didn't know that Chopin was prim and proper!
@@willemboone7912 oh I heard the coda of first and last and both were weak. Sorry.
You don't understand ,what a musician he is!!!
I agreed....the appasionata could be better....there are so many great performances of this monsterpiece outhere...but hey, he can't be great in all things...I love Murray and is one of my favorite
