    Excellent tips! I am watching mine adjust for fall, couple of falling leaves with temperature changes I guess. Mine has several trunks--not sure how that grew. Looks like legs so the plant's name is Walker! Thanks Justin!!!

    I wonder how successful a golden gate would be here in the pacific northwest. Our days have already been cut in half this season. I've been scrambling for supplemental light fixtures.

    I love this bonsai!! I have the same species. Only problem I’m having is with little bugs in the soil, they look like some kind of mite and then weirdly i found a baby snail, then I had to deal with fungus knats lol so I backed off a little on the watering to every 4 days to see if that helps, I’m also using A organic insecticidal soap. Have you ever dealt with these kinds of pest all at once?

    My friend rescued a bonsai and gave it to me yesterday right before this video premiered. Coincidentally, I believe it could even be the same species, but I cant be sure. (Its some type of ficus regardless.)
    This poor guy is in awful condition, and has only maybe 6 or 8 leaves left on it. It could be too late to save, but I want to try! She told me she gave it a bit of water soluble food, but is there anything else I can do to help give it a boost?
    Providing it lives, I know it needs repotted also, but I'm not sure what type of substrate they like.-- I'm looking forward to seeing that video!

      Ok so it definitely sounds like this guy is under some stress. You need to make sure whatever you do you do not stress him out more. With light these guys like somewhat bright light. I give mine ample morning sunlight and then protection from the sun during the hottest part of the day. Since he is stressed I would only give him bright shade until you see new growth. With water especially since it's very hot out I wouldn't let the soil dry out between waterings. If it's in a small pot like a bonsai pot they dry out quickly so make sure you pay attention to that. On days that top 100 I water two maybe three times a day depending on how hot it gets. These guys enjoy heat and humidity they are from around the tropics. Make sure you have him outside say under an awning. You want him to get some light but not much, too much direct sunlight will stress him out. The humidity outside is very important. Our houses have no where near the right amount of humidity for trees. Too much fertilizer will lead to fertilizer salts building up in the soil and then stressing him out if not killing him. Find out exactly what she gave him and how much, because with ones like miracle grow it can feed for a couple of months. If you want to give him an additional boost you can scratch into the soil a little bit of worm castings. Though don't over do it. I'd do about a quarter of what the package says. It will help the soil aeration along with the roots and consequently the tree. Do NOT repot right now. Transplant shock will alas stress him out more. I would definitely wait until you see more substantial growth before you repot. Maybe even wait until next spring. With the soil they prefer something rich and porous. I use a mixture of about 50% cacti soil and 50% raised bed soil but a reputable garden soil should suffice. The cacti soil has a good amount of sand already mixed in to help excess water run freely. The other should cover you on the nutrients. Don't forget most soils have nutrients mixed in and you won't need to feed again for a couple of months. How do the remaining leaves look? If they look more than a quarter dead I'd just cut them off. Trees regrow all new leaves all the time. If you have any questions or concerns about anything I said or about the tree at all just message me again. Email is ytgreenalchemist@gmail.com. Good luck!

    Mine is struggling and quickly getting yellow leaves, I presume it is an humidity issue unfortunately

    My golden gate ficus has leaves turning yellow and falling off. The heat went out in my house for a few days. How do I know if it got too cold or if I am overwatering?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  2 роки тому

      They can get a little cold. I'd say as long as there wasn't any actual frost on the plant it should be fine. In nature, they can get to below freezing for just a couple of days, though usually not consecutively, but being in your home it doesn't have to worry about harsh winds too. How's your light situation going? Yellowing leaves could be from overwatering, not enough light, or pests. How often are you watering during the winter?

    I just bought this tree today and it has some healty looking leaves but also yellow leaves. A lot of dropped leaves and some with one or two dark spots. Do you know what the issue is with it. How do I fix it for a healty plant?

    and you repeat all the misguided facts.
    unless you live in the desert you'll be fine. microcarpa ficus are very adaptable and can live just fine and be happy in low humidity 45-55% typical indoors is fine. It will adapt.
    why not explain why you tip -ramifications
