So, POW Blocks actually still trigger the switch a few seconds after being thrown due to it still being visible but no longer physically there. That first level had me singing "Super Sonic Racing" and "Can You Feel the Sunshine". That ending will give you a stroke, though. 😂 The other three levels were excellent as well! Just take one gimmick, and work magic with it. Bravo, team.
It's a bit complicated to explain to a person who isn't familiar with game development the difference between modders and, say, Miyamoto with Nintendo. The basic idea is that if you mod in something like Doom, you're modding a nearly 30-year-old game with a dedicated community that has been workshopping ideas and techniques for literal years with the limitations that come with it. In order to create something new they often don't have the skills or connections to do so, so they need to use other people's work and build on it, or develop those skills themselves, or reach out to the community for help. But, with game designers, they have all those skills and connections available to them, often without the assets to complete a fully-finished game already prepared. So, they need to make those assets, which is where their skill sets are. They're the guys who put in the work to create Goombas, Koopas, and everything else first then come up with a cool gimmick for them second, modders are the other way around. So, I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to look at even the most impressive Mario Maker level designer and say "This guy should be a game designer," because they might actually be kinda bad at it because it requires a radically different mindset.
I'm not even surprised anymore the only thing left to do is to make a Mario maker emulator inside the game and they have reached Minecraft levels of ascension
The idea with the s when Yoshi is hit by the Boos, is insane. Also winged Yoshi eggs and red Yoshi are very rarely used entities and this level makes great use of them.
Epic woman moment caught on camera. Most people will never have someone who loves them so much, that that person needs to tell such a simple story right away. You two are clearly a great couple.
My comment may be a little late, but I looked up Donkeymint's Orange level, and it's a rather complex hidden setup by the looks of the level viewer. A cloud block, 2 side springs, fire flower, mushroom, 2 buzzy beetles (large and upside down), 2 bullet launchers, 1 blue platform moving to the left higher up on a rail, 1 yellow platform on a rail leading down, 2 On/Off switches, 1 On/Off block, a semi-solid platform, some horizontal ground and vertical ground (separate), 4 note blocks, a one way wall pointing down and finally a green snake block holding all this up, that is in line with the bottom of the orange semi-solid platforms across the course. Looking at it now, I still can't figure how the hell this all works behind the scenes, but I will say Donkeymint is definitely a genius to have figured this shit out on his own.
I decided to put the Super Sonic Racing song on in the background of the first level, and the level ended as the song did, it took Dave 4 minutes to beat it, roughly. Because the song is 4 minutes long exactly.
Imagine if Nintendo supported and updated this game. They could have helped grow an even more awesome community of passionate players and creators. There's almost certainly a way to grow a desirable active user base that could be tied into new Mario games which could be used to extend the life of any 2d Mario game years down the line.
