- It may not look like it at first glance, but this level is indeed a TROLL level!!
Now and again, I will go through some of my favorite Mario Maker 2 creators and hand select levels that I have been wanting to play but just didn't have time to get around to it. Today we are playing some of those levels!
The level ID's are in the video, be sure to check them out and play them, they are all fantastic levels made by fantastic creators!

Kaizo Blocks were never the bad guys. They were forced into the role by SMM1 troll creators. The first Kaizo Block in SMB1 Level 1-1 gives you a 1-Up mushroom and doesn’t make you fall into the nearby bottomless pit.
Isn't it possible to hit it while trying to jump over the pit? Is it really that far back in the original?

It's actually explicitly meant to stop you from falling in the pit I'm pretty sure. It's positioned in a way where if you were to jump directly in the pit and not make it, you'll hit the block instead
I think it's 4 blocks back? I could be wrong, but it's a safe one that isn't there to screw you 😂
Super mario lost levels is the first troll level. He did it himself, miyamoto
Kaizo blocks get their name from the original kaizo Mario SMW ROM hack, where they were frequently used to kill the player arbitrarily. This use was carried on in SMM 1.

I know streamers tend to turn down the volume on their games so that viewers will be able to hear their voices better, but when a game has good music and sounds, like SMM2 does, I actually prefer it the way it was for a while in this video, when he left it up at the same volume as his mic. I could still hear both the voice and the game sounds perfectly well. I think Dave and other streamers should take a lesson from GDQ on this. They don't turn their game volume down like that. At least not as much.
I use a compressor extension for my Firefox Browser that makes the game volume louder by evening out louder and quieter parts of the audio.
I agree so much ! I sometimes personally don't care at all to hear the streamer's voice, I just want to hear the game
A wiggler with wings is of course called a wingler.
Didn't know entity limit shenanigans could be used to create these small key collecting mini games. Such a nice concept.

I thought at first that the "no collecting stars" red planet level involved the sprite limit as well (collecting a star would free up a slot for the muncher to spawn from the note block, triggering the on-off switch), but then Dave explained how it really worked.
The derivative of a function is a function which gives you the rate of change at any particular point in the original function, aka the slope of the line at that point. For example, for the function y = 2x, the derivative is 2, because the slope of the line is 2 everywhere, regardless of x's value. For the function y = x^2, the derivative is 2x, because the rate of change (and thus the slope of the line) increases as x increases. At x = 0, the slope is 0 (a flat, horizontal line); at x = 1, the slope is 1 (a 45 degree angle up and to the right); at x = 2, the slope is 4, and so on.
It might seem a bit complicated, but it's extremely cool! For example, the area of a circle is (pi) * r^2. The derivative of that function -- the rate at which the area of the circle changes along with the radius -- is 2(pi)r... which is the formula for the circumference of a circle! Because of course, a circle that's growing will be expanding by exactly its current circumference, moment-to-moment. It's really neat and beautiful, in my opinion!

OMG! My Mom and I absolutely love the SNL “Cowbell” sketch! That was an awesome level, albeit a bit chaotic.
Did Dave even notice that last troll level had a WR of 1.6s?
Now it's down to 1.399 seconds. Apparently it's possible to just bum-rush the flagpole and touch it before the bill blaster completely blocks it. I'm still trying to do it but I just cleared it the intended way, in about 14 seconds.
That Don't Fear the Reaper level is making me want to play Returnal again.

If these levels were hand-picked by DGR, then you KNOW that these are going to be some darned-good levels. Also, if the DGR guarantee logo makes an appearance, that automatically means that he is going to beat the level on the next attempt.

There wasn’t a single kaizo block in that whole level…
Yeah, they were just invisible, but in places that were obvious. I thought it would be more like actual kaizo blocks that would end up saving you from an enemy or trap like on some speed run levels where an invisible block pushes you down to a lower path that's actually the intended way to go.
