That said, I always seemed having trouble getting past the last training mission where you have to pick up some cargo, which I believe was some kind of missiles, and try to get back to the Azzameen HQ without damaging it (you will fail the mission if the cargo is destroyed). No matter how hard I tried to keep the cargo in one peace, it always gets destroyed before I could enter hyperspace., which was kinda frustrating to tell you the truth. I think this was the point when the Empire and the Viraxo worked together and forced the Azzameen family to abandon their home and find refuge with the Alliance...
the part of the mission where you blow up a friendly ship is not a mod conflict. you do lose score and get pestered about doing it by your copilot in vanilla. its just an oversight/possible tech limitation of the base game
Did anyone else recognize, that the home base in X-Wing Alliance looks kind of like the Quake logo? Which totally makes sense, because back when it was released, there where rumors that some iD software members helped in creating the 3D-engine ;-)
I remember getting into debates with my brotgwr over which was the better game at the time, Freespace 2 or Alliance. I love Alliance, but there was no question Freespace was the superior game - mission design, structure and difficulty. Alliance felt really clunky to me at the time, and the missions often bugged out or were a slog. Shame mods can't really fix those issues.
TheArtkaw I still have Freespace 2 on my laptop. I loved the whole Freespace library, played through fs2 a half a dozen times using the Microsoft force feedback pro. What an awesome game!

I gave up on XWA right after starting the first Freespace, then there was an add on for that. Then FS2 blew them all away. If you haven’t ever played those, I highly recommend you try em’. They allow you to customize every control, and the story was way better too. But I love Starwars so much I put up with the headache for quite some time.

This game got me very invested in the YT-2000 Otana freighter, especically with that glorious opening sequence. Loved that ship! My only regrets with the game is that the family side of the game never got resolved, the conflict with the Empire taking over. There were no additional missions after the big finale, which was also a little disappointing, for me, in of itself due to the perceived differences between the screen and the game's interpretation of events... I feel the Azzameens never got justice for the great wrongs that were inflicted on them. Destruction of the Empire was too impersonal for me to be any form of justice...
Has anyone here recently messed around with this mod pack? I love the updated look but sometimes the FPS drop way down. Wondering how Shack got it to run so smoothly...
I remember this game. I could never complete the last mission becouse i was to young to figure out how to spin the ship to avoid hitting the very narrow areas of that last mission.

Is there something like this for Tie fighter?
Soo Where can I buy this?
Are you flying it on a new computer or do you have to use an old 1999 computer?
It's on steam, then search for xwa upgrade for mods
This series of games, along with SWotL were some early games that brought me great joy
Takes me back before the ea times
TIE Fighter needs this facelift
Is there a mod where you can fly any ship on each mission for fun?
I was surprised by how good this looked. I never played it
It didn’t look this good originally. This is 20 years of love and dedication put in to this game. There is a side by side comparison video of the 99 release and 2020 version on YT somewhere I saw a few days ago. This game and series had so much heart and soul.
Damn man, you finished the video one mission too early. Mission 6 / Rebel Rendezvous is epic
My brother came over for quarantine and brought a joystick with him but x-wing crashed a lot and didn't look as good, now i wish he stayed longer ):
hey Shack or anyone in the know. Thanks for the heads up on this mod, I bought XWA a while back as there were no star wars starfighter games out there and wanted to recapture some of the fun that I had back in the 90's with X-wing vs tie fighter but when I played it was put off by the graphics. Anyway, is there a way to swap the rudder and roll with the joystick? Also thanks for the heads up on the albion prelude mods, loved it.
LT. DANG I think you can find shareware that allows you to remap all the controller axis’s and buttons. I just can’t remember the name of the software that I used, some weed induced memory loss. Lol
Played this game online for a long time. Screaming Wookiee’s
Shack, I hope you'll read this so that you'll find out about TFTC or Tie Fighter Total Conversion as well
This is amazing!!!! Alliance has been my all time favorite!
Now if we can just have the original X wing with Squadrons graphics my life will be complete....
I wish we had a game like this but you add on ground play and moving around your ship... basically add KOTOR with a bit of multiplayer and your got yourself a fun game... will we ever get it... no
Closest thing to that is prolly Star Citizen. So no... we will never get it. ;)
@@Linerunner99 are u sure about it? Star Wars Galaxies Legends exists,Game having alot of multi passenger ships where you can explore around, pilot ship, mechanic, take on turrets and do other things with friends,Star Wars Legends is only game which having Space yet.
@@buffjokester2448 Exists... but it's fan owned and run. Which means it might not exist tomorrow. Cause if there's anything Star Wars has taught us it's that fans are here one moment and gone the next.
@@buffjokester2448 If I remember correctly it’s also a pain in the ass to actually play it unless you owned a physical copy from back when or had a steam copy
You never played through this back in the day when it was first released? Boo...
Well, I'm glad you get to enjoy it now.
Hopefully Squadrons as AT LEAST as much of a single player game as this, preferably more like XWing, ideally a bunch like Tie Fighter.
