Gender roles are real and important part of the society, not just on societal levels but biologically too. Cause our brains and thinking patterns are different. I personally know such woman, whose father had a modest income and so she contributes for her younger siblings education and building a house worth living, they delay marriages for helping her father with younger children's education
Men "feel responsible" for their families bcz his parents think its their birthright to be a pertetual burden on him and his wife. In our culture women leave their families post marriage while the man gets to stay with his, this allows him to dump his parents day-to-day caretaking on his wife whilst never having a single obligations towards his in-laws yet taking the entire credit of being "budhape ka sahara". It is women who do the literal caretaking of men's families leaving their own to fend for themselves. They want to be shravan kumar but at the expense of their wives. Im sorry, but their sense of responsibility is nothing more than brainwashing by their own parents, they do skimp out on a lot of responsibility, maintain egregeous double standards when it serves them and makes their lives easier.

Being a girl.. I have been working for 10years now and send money home every single month to my parents. Given a chance girls will always do it, but very less women are given this chance. Few have to leave the job due to other responsibilities of running/managing the house which should be equally valued.
