Brief Description: NWS damage survey rated the tornado an F2. Tornado touched down briefly in downtown Northfield, flipping over a semi trailer truck and lifting the roof off of one business. Three-fourths mile later, it touched down again on the east side of Northfield, and then remained on the ground for 11 miles. After being in Rice County for 5 miles, it crossed Highway 19 into Dakota County and then dissipated in Goodhue County 4 miles west of Cannon Falls, for a total of 12 miles. Numerous rear flank downdraft gusts estimated at 90 mph caused damage alongside the southern periphery of tornado track. One man sustained minor injuries when he was blown from a tractor, but did not require hospitalization. A total of 8 homes received major damage, 22 more had minor damage, and a turkey processing plant was destroyed.

This was about 8 years ago east of Northfield, MN. I was alerted to the storm that already had 6 tornadoes by my son. As they took cover in our basement, I went out to tape some of the coolest cloud formations I'd ever seen. After about 8 minutes I noticed the dust cloud on the ground. You can see me adjusting my position as this is forming. I was planing my escape route. When I saw the trees about 1000ft away being ripped up, I decided it was time to go to the basement. It stayed south of us.

Video is fine. It's a little disturbing that you didn't call 911 the instant it touched down.

@@trendmassacre8423 I loved it to for the quietness of it. (Geez!! I had a headache!!!😁) Zero reference to anything of Reed Timmer, as I love the guy and watch everything he puts out!! As well as others. Favorite though is good ole Pecos Hank!!! I’ve been through a tornado, two actually. The last one damaged my house beyond repair, and destroyed so much. Neighbors lost their lives. So I have a great respect for them. I watch everything I notice that comes up on UA-cam. I’ve also studied for years now to learn all I can about them. Don’t want another one to sneak up on me at night!!! God bless🙏🙏🙏

It was euphoric in the back yard. But straight slamming winds ripping high and low and making twisting crossfire winds and creating my back yard. Ripped my neighbors tree cut like a lumber jack and boom like dynamite. I have a big tree out my window. The old ones were silly like kids. I left one watching the backyard hovering and lifting things and the other watching straight winds with the big plastic garbage cans shoot down the street. All watching by glass? Hell no. Haha. I remember this storm cell. I think it spawned 2 or 3 tornadoes, but luckily they were mostly rural. I was just 10 miles north of this tornado and the sky looked almost like day and night colliding. Ominous but very cool at the same time. Minnesota is no Oklahoma or Kansas, but we get a lot of severe summer storms. I'm surprised I haven't seen this video until now. Great footage!

Good video. Th wall cloud. The ever so slow rotation occurring. If you watch closely you can see early updraft as small clouds getting sucked upward. If you speed up the early part of the video it is really visualizes the rotation and updraft. Incredible the last part of the updraft off the ground just before the funnel drops down to meet it. I guess that was dust off the ground. I had the same thing occur next to my home but fortunately it died back before dropping a funnel. A shaky experience.

Hello, from Blaine Minnesota. I was born in 1965 and hear stories about the tornado that hit in Fridley, East Bethel, etc. Then in 1976, when I was 11 yrs old, another one hit by my trailer park and my elementary school. In Mounds View. We were on the school bus. I can't believe they released us that day. I still remember how pink and green the sky was, as we were all looking out the school windows! In 2005, in Blaine and surrounding towns, we got hit again. My entire neighborhood had their trees laying over with the roots sticking up towards the sky. My husbands truck was flattened from a huge tree branch. No house damage for us. They say straight line winds, but I beg to differ. A house a block away, was peeled like an orange. I still get freaked out in bad weather to this day!! Ugh!!

Wow that Mom meant business. This tornado's actually pretty slow moving and highly visible at a pretty significant distance. Did it ever head towards the house or come close? Generally, I know it's good practice to heed the tornado warnings and take cover, but this one is so apparently not posing a threat yet.
Great video of the big mesocyclone overhead though. Those clouds were moving really fast. So hard to know if it's going to turn into some huge ef-5 killer tornado, or just die out in a puff of smoke.

You stopped filming when it was just getting good, but I don't blame you for taking cover!

Oh my gosh... that walkie talkie noise at like 3:20 or somewhere around there just struck me with great nostalgia... I remember I had a set of ones that sounded exactly like that, and I played with them, a friend, and my family like 8 years ago... damn man!

From 8:17 - 8:52 it appears there's moderate wind between ground zero on ground and place where funnel begins to descend....... cloudy masses not appearing to be spinning very much, but there surely is that activity near the ground for some time. I presume there's updraft pushing dirt upward?
VG XLNT video.... thanks for the adrenaline bump :)

Saw the clouds swirling like that today. We were so close to having one touch down! Not sure if I should be glad it didn't or disappointed in not getting one on video

I grew up in a small town in north central Oklahoma & spent many nights in my grandparent’s cellar. My grandpa would round everybody up & get us in the cellar, then he would stand outside & watch. Now after a lifetime in Oklahoma when I hear the siren I go outside & look up! Lol
