You earned my follow. I am a meteorologist and was a storm chaser for five years. I love the calm and professional approach you took. People screaming and breathing heavily seriously takes away from the video. We purposely tried to keep calm with no screaming while we chased and filmed. We lost a camera man to a lightning strike in 1988 near Broken Arrow, OK. It is very dangerous work and not for the faint of heart.
This has to be the absolute best tornado video I've ever seen, by far. The high definition of the footage was amazing, especially how you captured the white on top, the black on bottom so cleanly. I've NEVER seen anything like that before. Also, Thank You for not talking very much. You gave facts, and just a small bit of emotion, which is totally understandable. So many storm chasers ruin the video with constant dialogue and yelling. We want to see and hear what you're seeing and hearing, and you let us do that here beautifully. All the others need to take their lessons from you.
I have watched thousands of hours of tornado videos, and this has to be the most spectacular footage I’ve ever seen of a violent wedge. It’s absolutely awe-inspiring. That is footage of a lifetime.

The most chilling thing about tornadoes is how the air feels leading up to the storm. You can walk outside and just feel "tornado weather". The sky turns an eerie green color and the sirens wailing in the background make it a surreal experience.
Tim Samaras is looking down on y’all for doing an excellent job. Thank you for the cool, calm, and collective approach to the chase. Stay safe, and keep them coming!
What a unit. The spin in the mesocyclone is monstrous. I both love and hate the way a tornado sounds like some unfathomably large machine churning the earth as it moves by.

I've seen a ton of tornado chasing videos and I think this is one of the best. You got lucky with the conditions...it seems like it's unusual to have such a "clean" view of the tornado, meaning the funnel not being wrapped in rain or the surrounding conditions being totally chaotic. The footage of the formation at the beginning was really interesting...you could see the airflow so well. And you had the perfect recording spot...close, but not directly in the path. Incredible work. I hope all those affected get back to something resembling normalcy really soon. Heartbreaking to see the utter devastation that used to be houses and farms.
Seriously, wow. I've seen tornadoes growing up in Oklahoma, I've watched plenty of footage from chasers, etc. This is phenomenal video. Glad you guys are safe, thank you for sharing it with everyone.
There are really no words to express the awesome sight this is. It's beautiful, scary, nerve wracking, phenomenal, those are just some of what I'm feeling and I'm not even there. I feel so bad for the people this thing affected. Nature is scary.
That was unbelievable! I have never seen actual footage that good ever! I have to say I was a bit panicked when I saw it going toward that house. I’m so glad it was spared and I feel so horrible for those who were not as fortunate. ☹️
Your positioning led to some of the absolute best captures of all the subvortex motion associated with this beast of a tornado. I was absolutely spellbound, gents. I hope you find yourselves with some extra funding because of this to continue your quests!

Oh my god I am so sorry. I've had a lifelong fear of tornados and while my anxiety has had periods where I've done better and worse I definitely swallowed my pride and was hugging my toilet like it was my long lost mother or something the last two afternoons lol not too proud of it but I was certainly hearing horrible noises I haven't heard before as well as watching a sunny blue sky become populated by rapidly ascending cumolonimbuses then cloudy to dark as sin within um... 10 minutes? That wedge/barrel structure as it's grinding the Earth to bits beneath its wider parent low-level mesocyclone (5:40) is something to behold. Well done and congrats on your excellent intercept!
Wow. My jaw dropped watching this footage. Again, being able to just hear how it sounds is a first for me. Thank you for recording this in silence! I don't know if I could've kept my mouth shut being so close to that monster.
I have been in two tornadoes, and this is the FIRST video that I have ever seen that gives a great close-up experience of what it is really like. Though being in it is exponentially worse, this video gives a small glimpse into the power, destruction, and the noises that You feel in your body. The air pressures also have a very weird affect on You as it passes by. First, it blows everything with lower damaging winds, then It feels like Your house is going to get sucked up and thrown a few miles away. Its described as a noise of a train going through your living room, but it is way worse than that. Our senses get overloaded until we go into a life and death mentality. Humans sense these things long after the animals do. There are warning signs that can predict a tornado coming your way. Watch your animals behavior, and watch the skies. If You sense the best weather that You have ever seen in your life, the most beautiful skies, then You are in the pathway, a few minutes later. That truly is the calm before the storm, and it is an indication. It is a weird thing. I'm not happy to be in a tornado, but glad that I have that experience behind me. It is life altering, to say the least.
The kind of places I would want to see a tornado would be in the middle of a big open area of field and not be very close to any towns or hevaly populated areas bc when it goes into big areas that's when bad things happen

They aren't able to. Look up the El Reno 2013 tornado. Storm chasers died that day when the huge tornado changed directions multiple times, going 360 degrees. Tornadoes are unpredictable and dangerous in all directions.
@@isocarboxazid If it was as simple as you make it sound it would happen far more often. Fact of the matter is that there's some measure of predictability when it comes to tornadoes. No you won't straight up know their path, but storm chasers find these tornadoes by going to locations where they're most probable to spawn and by basing their options for retreat and pursuit on that. Once it exists, it's again not at all fully predictable, but they're also not ambiguous monsters of death to stare at. There's a lot people can figure out about a tornado based on the way it looks and moves, and radar. Ever notice how good some/many storm chasers are at avoiding rain in these instances? Certain sides of a tornado will often be clear (precipitation-wise) and the far side getting the hell of wind and rain and hail. This video showed a bit of both, as the storm moved to, past and beyond them, bringing that other side with it. It's a complicated thing that I barely only know the most basic bits of, but the point to take away from this is that storm chasers aren't cluelessly at the mercy of a tornado.
They dont know shit, they often get lucky but they just do it all the time since they have time and no job and nothing to do and if someone dies you dont hear from it you only see uploaded videos when it worked

You did an amazing job. I grew up right where it went thru near Wapello and Keokuk counties. We were out of town for the weekend but so many of our friends lost everything. But we are beyond thankful no one was seriously hurt. I am a local spotter when I’m around and had been watching the MD since 9:00 that morning and then the first rotation near Centerville a little before 3:00. It moved so fast but somehow missed going thru the heart of most of our little towns. We are very lucky!
I was freaking out because it got so close to that barn, cows and the farmhouse while it was strong and close enough to suck the dust off of the gravel path you were standing on. Good call on diverting attention from the tornado for a second to show us that inflow.
Incredible footage! This is a world class tornado video. It also shows how strong the feeder winds are that are feeding that thing. My heart goes out to the people who suffered through that. My video screen is as close as I want to be to one of those things.
This may honestly be the best tornado footage we get this decade. I am absolutely stunned by how photogenic this tornado was. It yet again shows how either amazingly lucky or unlucky you are when a close tornado roars in your direction. That house at 6:20 was extremely close to being leveled. I've live in Iowa my whole life, nearly 49 years, never had one go through where I lived. Yes, they are terrifying, and beautiful all at the same time, but luckily, they're very isolated. And typically, they don't get this intense, not that smaller ones don't do damage. Just about anywhere you live, you're gonna have some kind of natural disaster; tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes, tsunamis, drought, locusts. You just have to hope and pray they miss populated areas and go through open fields. That's why a lot of folks in Iowa here about a tornado warning and go out to look, at least until it's right on you. In time, you get used to it, like anything. Your compassion is certainly refreshing though.

The ghost train was absolutely mesmerizing for the few minutes it was clearly visible. Glad to see someone else take notice too!
What's the ghost train?
@@edd4816 my guess is that it's the large cloud of dust thats trailing behind the tornado, sort of like an afterimage of the tornado's path. Like a lot of people have already said this is excellent footage showing off a lot of traits of tornadoes that aren't normally captured.

Thank you for this comment! So sorry to hear about what happened to your friend.

For me, its so fascinating to see a tornado, but then seeing the aftermath, is very humbling. Prayers to all those affected 🙏🏽
The kind of places I would want to see a tornado would be in the middle of a big open area of field and not be very close to any towns or hevaly populated areas bc when it goes into big areas that's when bad things happen
was it not your god that created and sent the tornado, so why waste your prayers, it is what your god wanted no? To pray about it or some of the results of his aftermath, that's tantamount to questioning gods will. If you believe in him - then you gotta accept he kills randomly with these acts and you praying about it probably annoys him, you dare question his motive or get upset about his plan? you part timer you

mother nature is truly unpredictable. At the end of the day we're just doing highly advanced guessing
@@isocarboxazid They are able to. it was going southeast. and made a harsh turn towards the northeast. el reno was not a normal ef5 tornado.

@@pamelah6431 I've never heard of him but I'll look him up right now. Thank you very much dear.
8:24 looks like there are 2 deer out there who are spooked by the weather. Spectacular footage of a very serious and sinister-looking tornado. Thanks for keeping comments calm and to a minimum. You let the storm and your footage speak for itself.
Excellent work Jayden. Some of the best footage I’ve ever seen and thanks for actually captioning the video properly. I can’t tell you how many videos have been titled similar to yours and yet the video is from 3 counties over with a glimpse of the tornado maybe once. You do dangerous work, but the contribution to public safety is priceless.
I really appreciate the kind words. Thank you!
Great video. Thanks for being brave enough to be out there . I recently moved to Albia from Omaha and I was very afraid but prepared. The sirens sounded , but this storm didn't cause damage here.
My prayers to the people impacted and to this team in future chases.
Please remember this footage is not more important than your safe return to your families.
Midwest Storm Chasers you did a great job. No hyped up dramatics just honest coverage . I appreciate that .
My grandparents were actually quite close to where you were storm chasing, thankfully, both you and my grandparents are ok. Rest in peace to the ones who didn’t survive
The spinning of the bottom part is Amazing!!!
Awe-inspiring video. Thank you for holding the shot, keeping the camera steady, and not screaming. Subscribed!
I used to work with a woman at a company who did storm chasing during the season as a hobby, her and her husband built up a vehicle over time and that's how she'd use the bulk of her vacation time.
Storm chasers are a gem to us all thank you for what you do
Definitely some of the best footage of that storm. Also good to see people doing safe chasing. The structute was amazing too! Nicely done!
I have to say, I love watching tornado footage. But something about this one made me feel like I was there myself in a sense. I couldn’t imagine the noise, the huge hail, the up close and in person movement of the large tornado itself. I wanted to become a meteorologist and storm chase when I was younger. But I went another direction instead. But I try to get my fix by watching videos like this online. Thanks for sharing with us and stay safe.
OMG! The devastating loss of land, crops, homes, people, and animals happening in real time is just heart-wrenching. My prayers are with everyone affected in its path that everyone has survived this. I saw that poor cow running for its life. I could truly never move in places like that. I would live in fear every day that I'd be next. 💔
They haven't planted any crops yet it's to early.
@jasongroomes7987 Thank goodness you have been safe. I hope you can continue to be free of any of them in the future.
@@DorisannKraniak I like them. I'll go out and try to see them also. LOL...pisses off my wife off something terrible.
What cow?
At first it feels a bit like any other footage but then it's like you're standing right in front of it ...incredible
