I would ditch the pre-loaded Navigation app and use Wyze or Android Auto. They tend to load faster. There's usually an option to make that the default when clicking on the nav button, as well.
@@MotoCheez If there is an option for a micro-sd card (or just use a USB stick) you can download local maps in google maps. Just use the wifi at your house to DL them and store them locally. I do that for my phones since in a previous job I was a regional field tech.

Nice I always wondered about this one, I bought the 40-45 dollar one came with a backup camera too. Cheap and plasticky but well worth it only issue is it’ll reset to factory settings every now and then but that could be a short somewheres.... great review!!
I was hoping to see the NAV in action. Thanks for putting a tape to see real measurement. Was nice to see the boot time. Some radios take 30 seconds to boot. Wish you would have said the model number or a link to where to buy it.
Nice! I reviewed a similar Seicane head unit for my WRX a couple of years ago. It was worth about $500, did all the same stuff, and didn’t work as well as your $88 unit. 😄 I’m pondering one for my camper van, possibly in an external mount like you did. It’s a Dodge and has that special Chrysler size radio, not double-DIN, so I’d have to chop up the nice wooden dash panel to make it fit. I’d also use your backup camera idea to keep an eye on my motorcycle on the back.
Bought one using your link and had it installed 2 days now and I'm absolutely in love, even hit my first road trip with it. Sounds great and I'm having alot of fun with the features like all the stupid things I can download from the playstore 😂
I also have a cheap double din Chinese head unit in my RZR, hooked to a re audio amp. Love both of them, and oh well If they fry, only $35-45 into each one. The one in my truck is this model and the one in my RZR is a little different.
MotoCheez yeah, it’s a year or two older I think than this one. I mounted it where the cubby was and then mounted the cubby below with rivets, plus I have the ride command unit so I have 2, 7” screens. I have the front camera to the Chinese unit and my ride command has the rear. 2018 turbo dynamix model. I have a full cab so it doesn’t get very wet inside.
I have just fitted the exact same looking unit to my wife's 04 MDX on the weekend, only difference I can see between yours and mine is mine is running Android 9.1. mine also doesn't have the fader or balance controls but that doesn't worry me. I have hooked it up to the steering wheel controls so that'll be better than the iffy volume touch buttons. One problem I have found is that it is way too loud. Volume 1 is too loud to talk to someone else sitting in the car. I "think" this is because the Android unit has a built in amp which is then sending the signal to the Acura factory amps and then to the speakers. Not sure what to do with that though. Good video though, thanks for the 8888 info, maybe there's a solution to my volume issue in there.
@@MotoCheez I got it through Wish, $55 + $15 shipping with the express option (I think this just means it's already here in the states, I had it within about 4 working days.) They are amazing value for money. I was a bit concerned that it's be laggy with only 1mb ram but it's very snappy.
You'll probably find it's not really android 9.1.... they lie. It's almost certainly running Android Go 8.1, which is actually Android 6.x. There are apparently 2 main versions of the firmware about... One has the fader and the other doesn't. From what I've heard, flashing the fader version to these models that ship without it does work and gives the full audio controls.... But I've not tried it yet.
Just a stupid question pardner, but is that the part of your dash with the airbag? I'm just sayin! Lol I bought one of these (not sure of the brand) and a harness for my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, and I couldn't get it to work. (I'm not very good with 12v electronics. Or 115v either). Anyway I kinda gave up on it after a couple of days and it just never powered on at all.

@@MotoCheez Yes I thought, I was counting on this too, unfortunately the head unit will be the wrong one, I measured each wire separately, I even connected it to the other video input of the head unit, there is the video picture, but it didn't switch to reverse :( thanks for your reply :)
I believe there was a setting in the advanced setup for it too. Did you look in there? I forget how to get in there but it's in this video.

@@MotoCheez I think there will be some setting, after entering a 4-digit code, a lot of menu items come up, a maze is all over, janos as I watch the video, it becomes obvious that what I bought is a replica, its connectors are completely different, even in the menu shows differently.

I did see the screen mirroring but it wasn't true Android auto/carplay with Android auto/carplay it's a really nice clean user interface and you can have a lot of your GPS apps off your phone such as Waze and Google without needing to use mobile hotspot pre downloading maps or the need a fiddle with your phone's orientation if you want it in landscape not many head units have this feature sorry this is a little dragged-out btw love the bracket idea I'm going to incorporate it on mine

Hmmm, you might need to fab up some sorta 'sun shield' for that unit (cut down on screen glare). Most electronics and heat don't get along (thinking about summer sunlight hitting that dash). A little origami with some card stock aught to do it. 😉
On a budget and want some in-vehicle entertainment with less installing and portable to other rides? This even works on locked out hotspot phones and via Bluetooth OR really nice sounding FM modulation too. My setup in a company van is effective with an on-dash iOTTIE mount (has a sticky suction cup, the best in my opinion.) It also does the array mic options perfectly even windows down phone & speech recognition clarity. OK, the gear list is: A good top of dash mount, the ROAV viva 'PRO' (has BT & FM outs) My choice of phone for 'many reasons' cost vs overall is an LG V20 (very good screen for daylight removable battery and proper 4x DAC audio outs for headphones too) Existing in-vehicle, you just need any type of FM, BT or even car branded LINK head unit, all will work. And lastly an Amazon account prime isn't important. Everything starts with, optionally as you leave the driveway shut off wifi. Then the ROAV Viva app takes it from there using mobile data and it's all voice-controlled and whether you own a 1966 truck stock up to the wildest sound system on the planet you are good to go. Music from various sources, GPS with Google or WAZE voice-controlled and on phone screen, all the silly questions and features you get with an Echo dot but in your ride instead. Good idea. I've tried tablets and cellphones like this in the past, they do work decent but nowhere near as good as a wired head unit. Had an old V10. What do you use for an amplifier? This truck has an AM radio.
On the back up cam did you try hooking up the wire to the ground wire. What we do with normal headunits to bypass that so can have full time rearview if want

hi Motocheez (8.23) did you press custom icon? in the sound settings, think that will take you to the Fader. looking at the page you can see that icon is lit up and all others are not

Great video, thanks. I have exakt the same unit, but the sound it does not work. I am connecting accordly to my Saab 9-5. Backkamera work great. The GPS is somehow set on 7+ hours (I am in Sweden) and I have no clue where to set the locals. Did you made some settings on yours?

How would I reset this device, the touch screen stopped working I've tried pulling the fuse disconnecting the entire radio and every time I plug it in it loads up the same information almost like it's got to keep a life battery inside of it, I'm hoping a reset will get the touch screen to work

@@MotoCheez I'm assuming the the reset button is directly underneath the mic hole labeled RST, I've put a precision tool in there reached all the way to the bottom but felt no tactical sensation, I have not had it plugged in while doing that so I can try again but I do not feel a button.
Can you kindly tell me which wire you connected for the back up camera? There is two wire popping out and not sure which one to connect the power wire :(
Those two 2" blue wires sticking out of the backup camera plug that goes in the head unit are actually your WiFi trans/receiving antennas. Do NOT cut/modify or think they are power feeds!!!
If you want to put your back-up camera on a switch like Cheez did; use the power antenna lead as your 12v+ source, insert switch, then connect other end to the wire that says 'reverse'. Just did the same on my sideXside and now I have the grooviest; Cheez-approved one on our 'block'. 😎
I've been using that Speedo app since 2011. I think I'm going to get one of these radios for my step daughter's quad. And possibly do another of my Boombox coolers with one.

I got one of these radio's about a 2 years ago from a company called secain for about 70 bucks. I ve been relatively happy with it but when I'm talking to someone on the phone using the radio everyone says that I sound far away from the phone and they have a hard time hearing me. I haven't figured out how to fix that, yet. Any suggestions?
Mine came with one dash speaker, I found enough room to put 2 small computer speakers up under dash and behind glove box. Sounds awesome believe it or not

GPS apps I use, OsmAnd & Navmii. They don't seem to be as invasive as Waze. I'm sure there's a lot of spyware and vulnerabilities buried in generic chinese android devices so I would suggest a unique user account tied to nothing else. You can use NoRoot Firewall to see what apps are trying to access the internet and block them.
@@MotoCheez I think you can get freeways nationally and then download just the road maps for each state you need. No data needed after you download them.
I had a similar but much older model in my car for over 5 years. It was in the dash, but I would leave it out in the sun at work in the middle of Australian summers (45 degree C outside temps)... I only removed it because it simply couldn't cope with maps, etc anymore being a 512mb single core unit. Got one identical to this for my parents a few weeks back, and it seems to be built roughly as good as the one I had. The software is the biggest fail in these particular ones.
The ones years ago, including tablets were laggy and slow, some of them use crappy memory too which would fail. Hope this hold up in the heat also like yours.
Still going strong. Only issue I've had was the GPS wire seems to be flaking out, if I moved it up a little it comes on and stays good. Haven't really looked into it because it's working... No overheating either

@@MotoCheez i had that radio in my skoda octavia, and i think it was warm on touch. And it was mounted regularly in dash this lne will be on top and on direct sunlight, in summer it gets up to 40 °C, imagine how much can be in car behind windscreen 😅

1Gb RAM and no mention of the processor type in the specs means the unit will be very slow and disappointing on almost all functions except maybe radio, especially if you want navigation and music at the same time. Better to spend a few more bucks and get a unit with a PX5 processor and 2 or better 3 Gb RAM
The tests showed otherwise surprisingly, plus I couldn't find a thin unit to mount on the dash. Cannot find processor info. I've tested slow crap tablets before, this isn't bad
Was working on the unit and I did something that no linger lets the radio frequencies enter. The radio displays 0.00 and the top ribbon frequency bar doesn't have the notch that moves. Do you know how to get the radio frequencies back.
I got this same radio I love it. For fade balance use custom profile in eq. Also you need to download carwebguru it's a really slick launcher u can customize and add gps to home screen.

I got this stereo and it pairs to my phone and shows all my music but has no sound I've tried everything I can think of and out of the blue it will work till you shut the car off or go to the radio then won't bluetooth again and I can't figure out how to shut the radio off when I want to use bluetooth
Motor Rider and I just installed the same radio from my link in his mini truck and it must be the same version that you have because it has kilometers, the app I use is called. Agama The newer version radio does seem to be a little quicker though

Use the reverse light connection. It's just another wire you run into the fuse box, panel, or to your back reverse light

I've found the volume button touch spot is just above the labels... Now works great! I have to see if I can update the OS. How much was yours?

To adjust the fader, you have to choose custom from the first menu (to change your audio from front to rear). Give that a try...

OK, the gear list is: A good top of dash mount, the ROAV viva 'PRO' (has BT & FM outs) My choice of phone for 'many reasons' cost vs overall is an LG V20 (very good screen for daylight removable battery and proper 4x DAC audio outs for headphones too) Existing in-vehicle, you just need any type of FM, BT or even car branded LINK head unit, all will work. And lastly an Amazon account prime isn't important. Everything starts with, optionally as you leave the driveway shut off wifi. Then the ROAV Viva app takes it from there using mobile data and it's all voice-controlled and whether you own a 1966 truck stock up to the wildest sound system on the planet you are good to go. Music from various sources, GPS with Google or WAZE voice-controlled and on phone screen, all the silly questions and features you get with an Echo dot but in your ride instead. You could but the Amazon Car Echo but you missout on features the VIVA PRO uses.

I hope you dig my concept I use every day and remember to shut off phone wifi as you leave to reduce any delayed "no connection issues" otherwise I have had to wait up to 10min due to passing weak wifi signals confusing the switch over to mobile data. Short of a backup cam and those are cheap with a screen you get it all and excellent performance with the ALEXA ease of use.
Anyone "Tinfoil hatting" about "they are listening!" your point is moot if you already carry ANY smartphone and a few flip phones too.
Good idea. I've tried tablets and cellphones like this in the past, they do work decent but nowhere near as good as a wired head unit. Had an old V10. What do you use for an amplifier? This truck has an AM radio.

On the back up cam did you try hooking up the wire to the ground wire. What we do with normal headunits to bypass that so can have full time rearview if want
This one is usually powered by the reverse light so I used a switch to turn on and off.

You didn't see the balance or fader settings because you never hit the custom button in audio settings which would give you a bunch more options

hi Motocheez (8.23) did you press custom icon? in the sound settings, think that will take you to the Fader. looking at the page you can see that icon is lit up and all others are not
Custom is just for custom EQ setting. It's not in there.
Biggest negative for these units is most don't have a connection for mic to use with Bluetooth. Otherwise they are solid.

Mirror link is wireless. Android auto uses wire.

Great video, thanks. I have exakt the same unit, but the sound it does not work. I am connecting accordly to my Saab 9-5. Backkamera work great. The GPS is somehow set on 7+ hours (I am in Sweden) and I have no clue where to set the locals. Did you made some settings on yours?
In time settings there was gps location for time or manual
@@MotoCheez yes, and I have GPS location. The minutes are righs as the day/month/year. But the time is 7+ hours ahead.

How to get the usb to work? Mine doesn't detect them at all.. have tried to format to fat32 and nfts(spell?) Even only "fat" but still nothing
I had no problem at all with the USB, I just plug it in and then open up the media player or the music player and it will play them
How would I reset this device, the touch screen stopped working I've tried pulling the fuse disconnecting the entire radio and every time I plug it in it loads up the same information almost like it's got to keep a life battery inside of it, I'm hoping a reset will get the touch screen to work
I believe there was a reset hole on it somewhere

You definitely should feel a button. And normally with power off you hold it for 20 seconds the boot up
@@MotoCheez I'm assuming the the reset button is directly underneath the mic hole labeled RST, I've put a precision tool in there reached all the way to the bottom but felt no tactical sensation, I have not had it plugged in while doing that so I can try again but I do not feel a button.

Those two 2" blue wires sticking out of the backup camera plug that goes in the head unit are actually your WiFi trans/receiving antennas.
Do NOT cut/modify or think they are power feeds!!!

If you want to put your back-up camera on a switch like Cheez did; use the power antenna lead as your 12v+ source, insert switch, then connect other end to the wire that says 'reverse'.

I got one of these radio's about a 2 years ago from a company called secain for about 70 bucks. I ve been relatively happy with it but when I'm talking to someone on the phone using the radio everyone says that I sound far away from the phone and they have a hard time hearing me. I haven't figured out how to fix that, yet. Any suggestions?
I believe there might be an external mic for the Bluetooth on these. This one has a good mic on it. Haven't heard anyone complain.

GPS apps I use, OsmAnd & Navmii. They don't seem to be as invasive as Waze.
I'm sure there's a lot of spyware and vulnerabilities buried in generic chinese android devices so I would suggest a unique user account tied to nothing else.
You can use NoRoot Firewall to see what apps are trying to access the internet and block them.

I think you can get freeways nationally and then download just the road maps for each state you need. No data needed after you download them.

I had a similar but much older model in my car for over 5 years. It was in the dash, but I would leave it out in the sun at work in the middle of Australian summers (45 degree C outside temps)... I only removed it because it simply couldn't cope with maps, etc anymore being a 512mb single core unit.
Got one identical to this for my parents a few weeks back, and it seems to be built roughly as good as the one I had. The software is the biggest fail in these particular ones.
The ones years ago, including tablets were laggy and slow, some of them use crappy memory too which would fail. Hope this hold up in the heat also like yours.

Still going strong. Only issue I've had was the GPS wire seems to be flaking out, if I moved it up a little it comes on and stays good. Haven't really looked into it because it's working... No overheating either

@@MotoCheez i had that radio in my skoda octavia, and i think it was warm on touch. And it was mounted regularly in dash this lne will be on top and on direct sunlight, in summer it gets up to 40 °C, imagine how much can be in car behind windscreen 😅

I used the one stock speaker and put a small 3" desktop speaker behind the glove compartment firing down. Sounds good too!

Yes. That's for custom equalizer setting.
1Gb RAM and no mention of the processor type in the specs means the unit will be very slow and disappointing on almost all functions except maybe radio, especially if you want navigation and music at the same time. Better to spend a few more bucks and get a unit with a PX5 processor and 2 or better 3 Gb RAM
The tests showed otherwise surprisingly, plus I couldn't find a thin unit to mount on the dash. Cannot find processor info. I've tested slow crap tablets before, this isn't bad
Was working on the unit and I did something that no linger lets the radio frequencies enter. The radio displays 0.00 and the top ribbon frequency bar doesn't have the notch that moves. Do you know how to get the radio frequencies back.
It's probably in that program menu... There's a lot of stuff in there I don't know what it does

I got this same radio I love it. For fade balance use custom profile in eq. Also you need to download carwebguru it's a really slick launcher u can customize and add gps to home screen.

I got this stereo and it pairs to my phone and shows all my music but has no sound I've tried everything I can think of and out of the blue it will work till you shut the car off or go to the radio then won't bluetooth again and I can't figure out how to shut the radio off when I want to use bluetooth

There's a setting that turns them on and a wire I believe.
