I’ve been watching Saguto golf for about a year. I am in my 70s. Two recent videos have helped my contact with the ball. Tucked in right elbow and slowing down my back swing and initial down swing. I’ve add these two insights from Saguto to other insights that has improved my game by 7 stokes. The other two improvements before these two were ,keeping my weight on my left leg and keeping my right arm straight. Grateful for your approach to golf.

Keeping the elbow in also forces the elbows together. Boom, two @Sagutogolf lessons linked together! This fully fixed my iron slice. Still slicing the driver a bit, though.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  День тому +1

Yep, Stevo, the two go hand in hand - or arm in arm I suppose 😎 - and I appreciate you sharing your resulting ball striking improvement. Nice job!! 💪💪
With regard to your driver issues, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

I showed my kid this video and she was like wow that’s so simple. She just started playing golf for school last year. We went to the range and she went from slicing out of the range onto the first hole to hitting straight shots after doing this for about 15 minutes. I told her watching your videos have helped to get me to go from shooting 80s, to 70s. Best round I had prior to this was 83. Few bad shots from consistently being in the 70s, and now, last 5 rounds I’ve played highest score was 78, lowest 75. You just out there doing the lord’s work and we appreciate you!! PS: By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Tom, another gem. Recently realized this move is the key to a great takeaway and simple downswing. I am now compressing irons instead of sweeping them or flipping them. The right elbow tuck and back of the elbow facing out (like giving blood), forces me to have a full shoulder turn and the down swing is as I simple as unloading right back down the takeaway path through your right shoulder. It's hard for the arms to disconnect from the body when you're tucking one of them into your body on takeaway. I really feel my right hand and full body powering through the ball then ground with this move. Like skipping a pebble.

It is hard to overstate the magic of that tucked in elbow. I struggled with low point consistency for years and in a matter of days or weeks, (most) of it went away....and I added what felt like effortless extra yardage. Added tip....try wearing a down vest at the range. At least for me, wearing it seemed to add a sense of connection to my body and I had more crispy iron shots than ever before. Thanks Tom for the great tips over the years.

I feel like I'm making real progress with my swing after watching a few of your older videos about shortening the backswing. This video only compounds on that information. I was hooking or pushing and getting the occasional decent draw. Recorded myself and my swing was way overcooked, I would completely break down at transition. Elbow flying out, lead arm breaking down, hands fighting to get the face square and on path at contact. Shortened my backswing like you suggested, keep that right elbow locked to my ribs and that made me get closer to the ball and the contact is night and day when it comes together! Just have to groove this new simple swing in!

This video + the hand path video is legit all beginners need to build their swing. I worked both concepts at the range (picked up the elbow trick from Instagram around the time I saw your hand path video) and they fixed my swing path. Been playing for about 6 months and broke 100 for the first time last weekend!

I remember watching another video of yours a few yrs back on the same tip. Totally transformed my game. Went from 110 to breaking 90. It helps keep your swing consistent and also adds forgiveness. I hardly ever shank shots now and the only thing I worry about with my swing is my tempo. My only swing thought. S tier tip.

Your tips got me hitting lower more penetrating balls after just one range session. Could have used you back in college. It’s great because it limits the variables of where the club face can travel. Works for pitches and chips too.
It also keeps your body out of the way so you can avoid swinging around it horizontally which makes a straight ball more luck than anything.
It enables lag and shaft lean without thinking about lag and shaft lean.
All this reduces the possibility of chicken wings and reverse pivots.
    The #1 ball contact tip.
Took me forever to really absorb it though. Slow learner.

Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant.......😎

Love the videos. Wish you could have shown a couple other angles to fully get the visual. One from the behind looking down the range and one from the back. Thanks for the tips
