Tom you have got to be the greatest instructor ever!! I've played golf for 30yrs and was always just average (15 handicap) at best. Since watching your videos and setup, I'm now a 6 handicap with no other lessons or instructions. Keeping my left arm straight and glued to my sides unlocked power I never knew. Went from 220yrd drives to 270yrd drives. Went from playing the forward tees to playing the tips. I went from topping, to skulling, to duffing, to finally KFC crispy. I when from not being able to beat any of my friends, to now having to give them strokes. Life is too short to play bad golf.
That is OUTSTANDING!! 💪💪 I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for your support in sharing your dramatic improvement - much to your friends' apparent dismay 😎 - and keep up the fantastic work!! Tom PS: If you've not already done so, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? Doctor Tom sagudo is the real deal ..his ability to get into your mind in order to understand golf ⛳ is IMPECCABLE and astonishing...he has the magic 🪄 of creating winners 🏆
Since subscribing to crispy golf I have gone from trying to break 100 6 months ago to shooting a 77 off the stick yesterday! I keep waiting for the swing to fall apart but a few simple thoughts of just pointing shoulder down and staying over the ball i have found consistency for the first time . Thankyou tom I have been trying to break 80 for 35years , you are a legend.
WOW - that is extra-crispy indeed! Congrats on a FANTASTIC round!! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. For reference, I’m 65 years old, play competitive softball, but never had consistency with my golf swing. For year, I had a bad slice, fixed that but ended up with a duck hook. I normally shoot 95-110, typically play 3-5 times a year and have only shot under 90 one time in 30 years. I watched this video on Friday, decide to hit a large bucket of balls that night and I started hitting more shots flush and fairly straight. I decide to go play on Sunday morning and shot 86!!! I had some bad shots and I need to work on club selection but I finally have some hope of being more consistent. Great video!
That is outstanding, Steven - congrats on a great round!! 💪💪 I’m very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for your support in sharing your dramatic improvement and keep up the fabulous work!! Tom Saguto, PGA PS: By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
This has to be the best UA-cam golf lesson I've ever watched. I tried the shoulder move back and through at the range and started getting bored with all the long straight shots. This allows me to remove all the unnecessary swing thoughts. Can't wait to see the results on the course. I had no idea you could initiate the downswing with the shoulders and provided the right arm is tucked in you don't come over the top.
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Jeremy; excellent job incorporating it into your swing! Indeed, much of what I teach is about eliminating swing-wrecking variables. In fact, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power Thanks so much for your support and for sharing your ball striking improvement, and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom PS: By the way, since my channel's content is connecting well with you, I am confident that you will also benefit from my FREE mini course - “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”.: go.saguto.golf. I live in the happiest country in the world, in Finland. We play here golf about 6 months, in the winter we have to travel to Spain. I play about 120 rounds each year. Unfortunately too often the game causes frustration... I found and fell in love with your teachings already in 2020 and used instructions then. A lot has happened in between and my level of golf varies. I tend to make things too difficult, overthink and may forget the basics. This year I have played worse and I had forgotten you. I watched the above video last night, sleepless, watched it again in the morning and immediately went to the range. I caught on to the importance of starting position and my strokes improved immediately! You always make me laugh, you get the feeling that golf really has to be fun and that hitting effortlessly is possible for everyone. I feel SO HAPPY NOW and going to continue watching your videos on UA-cam. You are by far the best video coach in golf. THANK YOU TOM SAGUTO🙏

Tom, I've saved about 50 videos & this is your best video to date. It's like a summary of all your previous videos wrapped into one. And the video quality keeps getting better. I still remember the one w/a reference to Link Wray & the Wray men " Rumble." Keep 'em coming.
I appreciate that, Milton! Yes - this lesson does succinctly summarize key aspects of the system I teach, though not nearly to the detail found in the step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform of my online school, which I highly recommend to anyone truly wishing to get on the fast track towards owning this swing and the consistently crispy ball striking bliss it provides. I saw this video at work today, and I couldn't wait to try it when I got home! I had back surgery last year and I haven't golfed at all since then. But I got out the practice balls today and tried just what you said, focus on keeping the right arm tucked. Oh man, it's changed everything for me! First shot off the mat was straight and pure! Second shot, landed right next to the first. Then the third! I was blown away. Eight shots in a row, straight as an arrow! And they all landed in a spot about the size of a hula hoop. Further than I've ever hit them! And the swing felt amazing! Like I wasn't forcing anything and just letting it happen. Thanks Tom!
That is OUTSTANDING, Leonard!! 💪💪 My lessons on this "trail arm magic" have helped countless golfers across the globe to overcome wide variety of issues and experience great ball striking. I'm very glad to know that this concept is performing well for you, too! By the way, with regard to that back surgery, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? I actually had a subscription before. But I let it lapse while I was in recovery. Think I will have to renew it! I did join the UA-cam membership today though. I need to be a better golfer so I can teach my youngest son. He's even more obsessed than I am!

Seriously young Tom Globally the most natural God given talent .and for Young Tom to impart his incredible skill with a natural born relaxed humour is beyond priceless .I am 80 playing the best golf in my life all thanks to Young Tom .in Scotland the home of golf .and at one point lucky enough to have played at all the major Scottish Courses .I stay 15 minutes from Gleneagles my course now voted the second best Golf Resort in the world. and If I may say to play on the same course that the Europe won the 2014 Ryder Cup .is very special LOL .but many Americans come over and Play St Andrews -Carnoustie - Muirfield - and King Barns - Gleneagles .the world famous James Braid golfer 5 times open champion was asked to design and build the Kings and Queens courses .all dug by hand by Irish navies and Horses and Carts it is beyond words . they were opened 1st May 1919 .in 1921 the first the first International between the USA and the UK was played .going on to be the Ryder Cup .amazing continuing history .We have great fun there all summer playing with folks across the pond . and have miniature Ryder Cups .it is really a magical place walking on the same courses as all the golf legends .PS I am not a salesman for Gleneagles .but if only Yong Tom could get here it would be a fabulous adventure .Cheers from Scotland
HI Tom: Watched a couple of your basic videos and went and played golf with only a 15 minute practice at my home golf net. I shot a 39 on the front 9 with little practice and hit the longest drive iI hit in over 10 years. I will be 70 this year. People this really works.

I thought I knew KFC, I thought I knew crispy... The swing is feeling good right now but I like to keep the feels moving and so last week I watched a recent video of yours about squeezing the elbows together and man, the Colonel was there with all his eleven herbs and spices. Had a line out the door waiting for lunch when I left the course.
Hello there TOM! I gave you 15 minutes a year ago and my game has changed for the better. I am 61, had MS since July 13 2000 and have had shoulder surgeries on both shoulders with the right being reverse ball replacement. I promise I wouldn't be golfing if the replacement was on my left side. Anyway, I recently shot 83 with 9 pars! I love your teaching and I want to play around with you, wait, I mean A Round. Ha Ha
LOL!! That's *AWESOME* - congrats on a great round!! I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the fantastic work!! 💪💪 Tom
Tom, it’s finally coming together. This week using your technique I drove the ball 337 yards! 45 yard chip onto the green. I’m leaving my 22 handicap behind me. I’m now shooting in the low 80s! One other fact: I’m a healthy 80 year old! A sincere thanks for the lessons.

Tom has just summerised his golf school in one video. The school helps you build each component at your own pace. My golf has improved so much since I joined the school only weeks ago that my playing partners has a used me of having lessons with a pro. I guess I have but for a third of the price of one lesson for as many as I can get through in a month. This is a simple system that just works. Tom brings many of Hogans subtle and often overlooked and misunderstood lessons to life.
Summarized? Yes - perhaps I have, Andrew. But as you now know - as do your playing partners by matter of their implications and amazement - the online school is truly where the rubber meets the road! Thanks for your kind words regarding this fantastic swing system and my instruction thereof, and also for your gracious shout out and support for the online school! I really appreciate your reply Tom. I played a couple years in college using the 'square to square" method , which gave me a little insight into stack and tilt. I have used a lot of that training with the weight on the left foot (right handed) so picking up your instruction and making application has been a smooth transition so far. I am working on your watermelon suggestion (The Best Downswing Drill) relative to downswing. Keeping my trail arm attached to my side has generated some really good shots and has brought great encouragement into continuing my golf journey. Even at 79 I will consider the annual lessons as I go forward. Thanks again for the encouragement and the great lessons!
I’ve been following you for a few weeks and my ball striking improved IMMENSELY! I’m shooting 11 shots better right now. I’m much more consistent. Just from thinking the same way about the swing.

I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you, and I'm thrilled for your improvement!! Here's the thing, though: In actuality this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Thanks for your message and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom PS: By the way, since my channel's content is performing well for you, I am confident you will also benefit from my FREE mini course - “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ If you haven't already worked through it, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews
This is one of the best, or arguably the very best video on the basic skills to hit good shots, because your rationales (and the way you voice them over) make everything so obvious. Some 8 months ago I suffered from a frozen shoulder and the only thing I could do is make a 3/4 backswing at best, which turned out to really help in focusing on lead arm straight. Now that this injury is practically over, I catch myself collapsing the lead arm a bit, simply because I am making a full backswing again. Not good for scores. Your video reminds me to practice more on that.
I appreciate that and I'm very glad to know that this lesson video resonated with you! With regard to your issue, the key here is get to - but not go beyond - your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set. This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur: 1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift 2) the wrists will break down 3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side 4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball 5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight. 6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact 7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom
Cant forget to add to this the rotation of the Hips in the backswing, If not mentioned it might, it can and possibly will lead to just a shoulder, arms swing.....Great Stuff Tom!!
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's not that I "forgot" - it's simply that I can't mention everything in every video without having my audience gloss over from information overload! 😆 It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper (and fast) path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my UA-cam content. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of the school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. What a great approach to golf instruction! Not too technical, and delivered by someone who isn't trying to show how much more he knows than you. I'm just getting ready for the season in New England and I'm psyched I found this channel!!
Welcome to SagutoGolf, Ryan! I took this out to the back yard, and had a sunny day...and saw my SHADOW as I was working through points...then realized it was giving me an honest assessment of whether I was doing points correctly...immediate feed back was given...made the progress accelerate...then tried it at the local range...wowed those around me...try it...just need a bit of sunshine...or set up a lamp/light in your garage or room...instant, unbiased feed back...just have to listen to it...
This is all so well explained and conceptualised and (together with your other videos) has made a huge positive difference to my swing. One question though - for you no slight drop of the club head in the transition between the takeaway and downswing (to shallow the club path)?
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Rob, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you! The move you are likely referring to is a feature of a two-plane type of motion that has the golfer taking the club straight back off the ball and then lifting it, thereby setting the arms on a different plane than the shoulders. This necessitates a shallowing move in order to get the club on a good downswing path. What I teach is a one-plane motion in which the club takes essentially the same path back and through, tracing the natural geometry of the inclined swing circle preestablished at address. It's a very centered, powerful, body-friendly, low-maintenance motion. Taking it straight back is a disconnecting move that puts the hands and club in the "Zone of Uncertainty". They don't know what to do from there. Do they crash straight back down in an effort to hit at the ball? Do they drop down and try to find that perfect "slot" each and every swing? Do they get stuck behind us by overcompensating? In other words, we disrupt the natural geometry of the swing preestablished at address when we force the club out and up - or, conversely, snatch/roll it to the inside - thereby taking it off the plane of that inclined circle. Instead, why not just put them in the "slot" to begin with and preset the ideal downswing path before it even happens?! While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews I'm thrilled to learn of your dramatic improvement - keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom
I've been trying this for a while now and it has helped me but still trying to get it down completely. I guess years and years of the old swing are holding me back. Sometimes I hit great shots and then bad ones creep in there. Gonna keep grinding.
I find that every few weeks I need to come back and re watch a views of Tom's video just to refresh myself as I fall into bad habits. Plus, and I know Tom doesn't focus much on this, if at all, but ball striking is only half the battle. It's the short game chipping and putting that is really needed to complete the puzzle. Today I went 44 on the front 9 and 36 on the back. Different was 17 putts vs 11 and 7 out of 7 "up and downs"
@manbearpig7359 Same here. I have watched his videos over and over again. My short game has been good for years but irons and driver just can't get consistent. I shoot around 80 every time because of my short game but it could be so much better if I can just figure out the rest.
@hollywood_golf You sound like the opposite of me. I drive and strike pretty good (and Tom has helped a lot what that) but my short game is inconsistent. It's actually almost a mental battle with me. If I mess up a chip or putt early it effects my confidence for the whole day
What I teach is a complete golf swing system, not a series of tips, band-aids, and fixes for field dressing swing wounds. As such, the transformation takes time as we work to gradually eradicate those stubborn ghosts of swings past. It's a very worthwhile process, though, as it ultimately leads us to the land of consistent ball striking bliss. That is also why the sequential, comprehensive, structured learning platform of the school makes for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. Let's get _you_ on the fast track towards properly learning and owning this swing and thereby enjoying a lifetime of truly enjoyable golf! Tom

It's amazing went to the range today and didn't focus on hitting the ball just focused on setup keeping my arm straight and square and shoulder pointing at the ball and contact was just happening , it was actually scary at first just focusing on the swing and not the ball
That's what I'm talking about, Ethan!! 👍👍 We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. What an incredible & entertaining video, that makes the swing look so smooth, powerful & yet effortless, consistently striking the ball! I love watching you make those perfect 6 ft bacon strips all in a perfect single line. And loved the Devinci Code moment when you stood there pondering on what thoughts go through your mind with all the sophisticated math formulas floating through the screen. That was me all these years trying to figure out how to play this frustrating game that we're all addicted to in a love/hate relationship! I was so mesmerized by this quick & simple video that covered the entire swing; where were you when I started hacking around the course completely lost so many years ago?!

Keeping this handy for every pre-round swing thoughts. Gotta stop thinking about force=mass times acceleration or that degrees 10:28 Kelvin is 273 degrees more than Celsius. This A Lot easier 😊 Thanks
Another great video from the Mater Chef making crispy fried strikes. I was waiting for the mention of weight forward to be a great ball striker and it came about 2/3 of the way thru the video. Thanks for posting.
Regardless of whether or not I mention it, Randy, just know that it is always the case... 😎 Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed this episode. Keep it KFCrispy out there!! Tom
I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Zachary, and I sincerely appreciate your validating remarks! I'm not surprised, however, since the body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system I teach is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Thanks again for your message and keep up the great playing! 💪💪 Tom
Took your advice. Stayed centered, left arm straight, right arm tucked in. Per Hogan, elbows close together, inside elbows up. At the range, 12 partial swings to get the feel. Took 12 full swings with a 6 iron. 1 a little thin, 2 a little heavy, those three in the right direction. The other 9, HIT AS GOOD S I CAN HIT. 😀😀😀

I'm right-handed. My right arm, I have a titanium Radiohead.. elbow joint.. my right wrist has a titanium plate with five rivets.. needless to say my pronation and supination is limited in that arm. I leaned how to swing a club and swing before the right arm injury. So now I don't know if it's a liability or asset. I got to learn how to swing my shoulders better through. I used to be pretty good on the short game. I can never figure out the long irons and driver, totally. I'm going to continue with your videos here because I find your instruction very good. I just got to get out there and pick up the clubs again.. I happen to live on a pretty nice golf course in Florida but I've never played it. I'm an older guy retired airline pilot and retired USAF. Hopefully, I can apply my discipline from my careers from following instruction to actual application even with my slightest of arm disability.. I noticed my grip has changed a little bit mostly because I'm right-handed, to a weaker grip.. Thank you for your videos. Your instruction is inspirational. Even for a flight instructor like me. I got to get out there again. Keep up the good work what's the instructional videos. Amen
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Mark, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! As a wannabe pilot with thousands of hours logged in my flight simulator, to those in the know I liken this swing system to tuning to the correct NAV 1 frequency, setting the CRS heading, and flying the ILS approach. Hit the APPR button and let the plane land itself....😎 By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Hey Tom, one thing that might help others... You tend to talk a lot about the right hand's wrist angle, but for me, it didn't "click" until I really thought about it as keeping my left wrist/hand flat. It was most identifiable at the top of the swing where when I wasnt doing this, I get very vertical. If you simply turn back from address without letting the left hand do anything, it seems to make the right hand do exactly what it needs to (keep that angle) and keeps the swing plane nice and flat. When this clicked for me, I went searching for some similar videos from you but anything "left hand" "left wrist" doesn't really bring up as much and when I attempted to consciously think about right hand wrist angles, it's a mess.. thinking about left hand staying still gives me the same result with no thinking. Thanks for all your vids, keep it up, I swear by your methods and tell everyone I can.
Well, you've just got to know how to search for what you're looking for here..... 😎 - ua-cam.com/video/uBCy5JEhQIA/v-deo.html - ua-cam.com/video/aLai9v2F0vM/v-deo.html Yes - with a neutral grip a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist condition is most supportive of creating and maintaining that trail wrist angle, but ideally we should train that to happen on autopilot as any type of forced manipulation introduces a variable to the swing. Also, be aware that if you have a strong grip then the lead wrist is going to have a pronounced cupping at address, so taking that to a bowed position is going to shut the face and thereby require compensatory actions at impact in order to not pull the ball into the next zip code. As for not letting the hand do anything, you are spot on! Set it, forgets it, and simply "allow" the wrist hinge to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Thanks - I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my content, and I appreciate the referrals and support! @@SagutoGolf this certainly helps. The pull issue is 100% my issue. I tend to do strong lead hand and although the shots are flush, they are almost always a pull or a pull draw kind of thing. I have to really tell myself to do nothing with the hands to get it to start right. More videos you can suggest on this would be great. I am a premium member as well but haven't actually looked since you redid the library layout (maybe 1.5 years now). Rarely a slice. Always a pull. Crispy, but pully.

This needs to be everyones back to basics video. When having that on the course breakdown and trying to get through one of a 1000 swing thoughts that creep up, help for 1 shot then back-fire.....remember those desktop metal ball pendulums? Just like the shoulders in the video.

I'm all in on these tips. I'm curious about two other things I see in your videos. 1. The amount of splay in your feet. I've started doing this more to help tight hips and it seems to help at least feel better after playing. 2. Forward tilt to the ball. I feel like I may be standing up too much and make up for it by bending my knees.
I'm glad you enjoyed the episode, Frank! Here are some setup keys that should answer your questions: We should feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft. We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. By the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. I noticed the same thing. I've never seen anyone with both feet turned that far out. Not a criticism, just an observation, but normally the feet are turned that way to allow easier hip rotation, but if your weight is forward & not transferring to the trail foot, does your foot flare matter? Something else about set-up I noticed from my own, assuming your heads are offset, if your grip is neutral & the clubface is square at set-up, the handle of the club presets the proper amount of shaft lean to start the swing which should be approximately at your forward pocket. When you show impact position, it looks like it's the same as set-up. Am I correct or not seeing it properly? Thanks Tom.
Thanks Robert - I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! I appreciate your interest! I had phased out private lessons (both in-person and virtual) awhile back so I could dedicate more time to my online school. I've not yet set a specific date for when I will resume them (it should be fairly soon), but when I do the virtual lessons will be reserved exclusively for my online school members. In-person lessons at my South Carolina location will be open to members and non-members. Also, I do offer an a la carte swing video analysis service to my school members as a means to support their progress in the school. Just started watching your videos here and your ball striking videos on your site. My in/out and open/shut are amazing now, and my irons are going further and straighter than ever. Driver, 5w and 4h are another story. I can't get much more than 210 yards rollout with any of them. My longest iron, a 6i, averaged 167 carry and 186 rollout. I'm not sure what I'm messing up with my longest clubs that's killing my distance.
I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement with the irons. Nice job!! 💪💪 It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the longer clubs - which is quite normal early in the swing change process as a golfer gets used to applying the weight-forward concept to the fairway woods and driver - it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) As it relates to the driver, many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball". However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) By the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. I'm glad to know that this lesson helped you! Actually, I bet that with the proper setup you can move those shoulders more than you think. For example, flaring both feet out approximately 20 degrees with the knees similarly angled outward provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. Hi Tom, great video. Q: Should the backswing (shoulder pointing to the ball) feel like you are turning your head to look back at the ball in a falling backwards sensation? or is that too much of a turn? Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! I think your answer can be found beginning at around the 1:10 mark in this video where you see the centered, "stacked" relationship of the knees, hips, shoulders, and head. Your motion should not cause that swing center to drift nor result in any sensation of losing balance. While there are certainly videos on my channel that are related to this, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom
@@SagutoGolf yes you do stay in your lane and teach your system, but the moment you started talking about those that teach angles etc you unwittingly took a subtle dig at Clay Ballard, because his method is all about angles and is way too complicated.

Great video as always Tom. My natural position I'm falling into is "laid off at the top" according to my friend. You have any videos to fix this? Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! I've found that if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby putting us in the ideal top of backswing position - i.e.: not laid off or across the line - and returning the face to the orientation pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look. Glad you enjoyed it, Seth! With regard to your question, we first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). What are your wrist doing in the back swing? DO you fire down when the wrist bows or do you control the wrist ?? I have never had a lesson and my swing is similar to this, but my wrists are passive..
I simply "allow" the wrists to work without forcing anything, Michael. @@SagutoGolf Hahahaha me AND my friend will be signing up methinks. I finally got my full custom fit clubset and my mate is about to grab some Takomo 101s, so the only part of the equation that will need fixing is us. All about eliminating variables amirite? 😁 If its not the clubs, its gotta be us so itll help with addressing any problems and learning quickly.
Saguto- let me tell you. I picked up golf during the pandemic and could barely break 120. I shoot mid 80’s now after adopting weight forward same plane back and down. I pure my irons 90% of the time but i think driver inconsistency is holding me back from breaking 80 ( shot 78 once last year and was hitting 6 iron off the tee) Im long compared to most guys i play with ( 6 iron carries 190-200) i cant seem to use your weight forward philosophy with driver.. any tips? I feel if i keep driver playable id be a single digit HCP
That is some outstanding progress, Jason - well done!! 💪💪 It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) By the way, if you've not already done so, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? Ideally, Ivan, we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. If we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. Tom I have had a fair amount of success with this golf lesson only I can't bring my left arm in a straight line towards my right shoulder. My body can't do that anymore. I am a senior golfer. Do you have a tip for seniors to do this as well as possible? Thanks.
Well, funny you should ask because a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. _It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion._ Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. My hot point in this video was weight forward.... i noticed your back leg throughout the video... i try to picture a wedge on the outside of my foot so i dont shift to the back foot.... when i forget ... my shots seem to go, but not crisp....and of course a few duffs. Thank you for the reminder. Vince
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Vince! Indeed - the need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This system certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. Thanks for your message and keep up the great work! Hi Scotty, It depends on how you are learning (i.e.: through these channel videos or through the comprehensive, step-by-step platform of the online school) and also how far along you are in the learning process. Typically, once this swing is running properly on autopilot golfers experience significant increases in length. If you are relatively early in your transition then you are likely still ingraining your "feels", thinking mechanical thoughts, and trying to overcome "ghosts of swings past". When you develop sufficient confidence in the motion that you are comfortable "giving up control", then the power accumulators will be loading properly on autopilot and you'll be able to just trust it and let it fly. At that point you'll have made that giant leap from playing "golf swing" to playing target-focused golf, and by then you should be seeing your yardages increase through the bag as they routinely do for golfers enrolled in the school. Here is a compilation of Power Drills from my channel: ua-cam.com/video/4CuEL2uCVWA/v-deo.html Really, though, if you're not already enrolled the online school is the best place to learn this swing properly in a comprehensive, structured environment.

Right?! It’s like a cheat code

Thanks for your message and support, and "Rumble" on!! 😎
Tom
That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner.
You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
Thanks for sharing your dramatic ball striking results and keep up the fantastic work!!

I actually had a subscription before. But I let it lapse while I was in recovery. Think I will have to renew it! I did join the UA-cam membership today though.
I need to be a better golfer so I can teach my youngest son. He's even more obsessed than I am!
I love the light hearted and simple way you present your coaching advice. This lesson is golfing gold dust. Thank you Tom.
My pleasure! I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!.

HI Tom: Watched a couple of your basic videos and went and played golf with only a 15 minute practice at my home golf net. I shot a 39 on the front 9 with little practice and hit the longest drive iI hit in over 10 years. I will be 70 this year. People this really works.
That is *OUTSTANDING,* Joe!! 💪💪 I am very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.

That's awesome - sounds like you've really got the deep fryer cranked up!! 💪💪
Keep up the fabulous work and enjoy that extra crispy buffet!!

Thanks!!

How great is our god?

That is *OUTSTANDING!!* 💪💪
I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.
Thanks so much for sharing your dramatic improvement, keep up the great work, and we'll see you soon in the 70's!!

Shoulders under the chin is gold Tom! Minimizing psychotic thoughts on the course leads to golf swing happiness.
Awesome! I'm glad to know that this concept resonated with you!
Indeed, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot.

Keep up the outstanding work!! 💪💪

Simply put, thank you.
I’m a 93-97 golfer and this past weekend I shot 88 for first time in my life because of these principals.

That's phenomenal, Nate!! 💪💪

This swing has helped me tremendously. Especially for a weekend golfer.

This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
2) the wrists will break down
3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight.
6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum".

It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next.
I absolutely love your "sunny" disposition.... 😎
Thanks so much for sharing and keep up the great work!
Tom
While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

Tom
If I mess up a chip or putt early it effects my confidence for the whole day
@@manbearpig7359 We would be a great scramble team 🤣

You're a very good instructor. No gimmicks, no over the top (no pun intended) science, just clear practical instruction. You've helped my swing greatly.
I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction, Stevo. (Or, as I say, welcome to "the dark side", where the spoils of "conventional" instruction - chronic inconsistency, physical pain, and endless frustration - yield to the fruits of body-friendly enjoyment of this great game for a lifetime. 😎)
Thanks so much for your support and for sharing your improvement, and keep up the fantastic work! 💪💪
Tom
It's amazing went to the range today and didn't focus on hitting the ball just focused on setup keeping my arm straight and square and shoulder pointing at the ball and contact was just happening , it was actually scary at first just focusing on the swing and not the ball
That's what I'm talking about, Ethan!! 👍👍
We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.
Thanks for your support in sharing your dramatic ball striking improvement and keep up the great work!!

This A Lot easier 😊

Took your advice. Stayed centered, left arm straight, right arm tucked in. Per Hogan, elbows close together, inside elbows up. At the range, 12 partial swings to get the feel. Took 12 full swings with a 6 iron. 1 a little thin, 2 a little heavy, those three in the right direction. The other 9, HIT AS GOOD S I CAN HIT. 😀😀😀
Fantastic!! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Gordon; excellent job incorporating it into your swing.

Amen

As a wannabe pilot with thousands of hours logged in my flight simulator, to those in the know I liken this swing system to tuning to the correct NAV 1 frequency, setting the CRS heading, and flying the ILS approach. Hit the APPR button and let the plane land itself....😎
By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.

Yes - with a neutral grip a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist condition is most supportive of creating and maintaining that trail wrist angle, but ideally we should train that to happen on autopilot as any type of forced manipulation introduces a variable to the swing.
Keep up the great work!! 💪💪

It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. Thanks Tom.
The feet, the tilt ... it's all part of the Stack and Tilt system

Nice job!! 💪💪
It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the longer clubs - which is quite normal early in the swing change process as a golfer gets used to applying the weight-forward concept to the fairway woods and driver - it can be attributed to one of the following:
1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact.
(A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
3) As it relates to the driver, many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball". (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

I'm a bigger broad shoulder guy I can't move my shoulders like that without losing distance but alot of what you explained helps me alot

I luv the subtle dig at Clay Ballard when you start talking about angles etc.
Not at all. I just stay in my lane and teach the system that I teach!
@@SagutoGolf yes you do stay in your lane and teach your system, but the moment you started talking about those that teach angles etc you unwittingly took a subtle dig at Clay Ballard, because his method is all about angles and is way too complicated.
This is really helpful. Always having a good crisp swing but having hard time to contact using longer clubs specially with driver.
I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Ryan!
It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods.
Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact.
Fantastic video, thank you. One question - you maintain a great wrist angle in the downswing even on the shorter punch shots, is this something you learned and trained into your swing or is it just the natural by product of your athletic swing?

Hey Tom, I really enjoy your video’s. Have you ever done a video about where you place the ball in your stance? Does it change based on your club?
Thanks - I'm glad you to know that my channel's content is resonating with you!
We first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.

Always great content , my ball striking has improved no end but my lead shoulder feels like it getting ripped apart . Now I’m swinging so we’ll I don’t want to stop what I’m doing .
I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement, but you should not be experiencing discomfort as this is a proven body-friendly method. In addition to my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, this is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.

What is the Ball position? In the midle of the stance or closer to the left or fight foot?
We first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position, Niels. From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.
As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look.

What are your wrist doing in the back swing? DO you fire down when the wrist bows or do you control the wrist ?? I have never had a lesson and my swing is similar to this, but my wrists are passive..
I simply "allow" the wrists to work without forcing anything, Michael.
It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods.
Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact.
(A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
By the way, if you've not already done so, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. In other words, the school is designed to have you mashing the ball through the bag, including the driver.
Keep up the great work!
Tom
Coach, sorry for the question, I didn’t understand the hands role in your swing style.
Can you explain me ? Thanks a lot ! Greetings from Italy
And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

Awesome stuff! Any chance we will ever see you in matches against some of the other UA-cam golfers ? I Watch a lot of others would be cool to see ya in action against some of them
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice!
My time at this juncture is dedicated to supporting my online school's members and creating quality lesson content for this channel. However, we'll see what the future holds with regard to your question....😎

7 to 2. Minimal thinking. I like! Thanks Tom
LOL! Yes - that is always my preference. 😎
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope it helps!!

You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.

Tom

Tom, love your stuff but really struggling for power / distance. Any ideas ?
Hi Scotty,
It depends on how you are learning (i.e.: through these channel videos or through the comprehensive, step-by-step platform of the online school) and also how far along you are in the learning process.
Here is a compilation of Power Drills from my channel: ua-cam.com/video/4CuEL2uCVWA/v-deo.html
Really, though, if you're not already enrolled the online school is the best place to learn this swing properly in a comprehensive, structured environment. The position-by-position detail you’ll get there is far superior to haphazardly piecing things together through a series of YT videos. The power is there. You just need to understand how to harness it! 💪💪
