People, they are retailers. They buy in quantity. This is a very realistic video. We should appreciate their honesty and willingness to share their activities with us.
I've found when a fish falls on the floor, it's super effective to just slide a piece of paper under and scoop them versus trying to pinch them up and possibly injure them more.
When my fish jumped out of his tank for the first time I was cleaning his tank and in a panic with a huge rush of adrenaline I stopped him up without even thinking and threw back in the tank the result was a stressed owner/fish and dog hair in the tank
I know this is an old comment, but if you scoop them onto paper it will definitely strip their slime coat off. Prob better just getting your hands wet like people do when fishing, then picking it back up
I really enjoyed this unboxing video! In fact I can see that I'm going to have to go back and watch past unboxings, lol. I started up in the aquarium hobby over 50 years ago, then I got out of it in 2009 due to health reasons. I gave away everything, tanks, equipment, fish and everything else that was connected to fishkeeping. Two and a half years ago I walked into a pet store to get my cat some food and they were just getting a shipment of fish in, and I watched about 95% of that. There were new-to-me fish that I had never seen before! So, when I left there I went and bought a 20g tank and started collecting all the needed equipment and set it up and very patiently waited for the tank to cycle... And now here I am, I've got 7 tanks running and I'm fully back into the hobby again. I really had missed watching and caring for all these little critters over those years I gave them up. I'll just end this by saying thank you Cory, for videoing your shipments for us! Through these, I'm seeing even more new fish that I am going to "have" to get!! Seeing them as you get them is a lot like watching a kid open his Christmas presents, and at the same time showing me that quite a bit changed over the years and I've got new dreaming to do for my side of the hobby! 😁 . 🐠🐬🐋
Amazing fish hobby testimonial. Once you got in there’s no getting out sure sound like scenes from a horror movie of entering a haunted house right? But we’re taking “fish” and yup that’s how I got in this hobby. I was just browsing the aquarium/fish area at my local pet store. A store associate approached me and ask if I needed any help? I replied, “No I’m just browsing around.” Shortly after few more trips of “Just browsing” my bedroom got a new aquarium display with a nice stand and I couldn’t stop watching my new pet swim around. Little did I know the guy I was dating (now husband) was interested in helping me with fish care/set up. We weren’t living together but enjoy taking trip to aquarium shop and selecting fish accessories (he is a fisher man who loves fishing/catching fish with his bare hands). When we got married, I even took my aquarium along to our new place. Yes we up graded to super large size tank and the original tank now housing one red ear slider turtle. I couldn’t imagine a house with out an aquarium as apart of home decor. Plus it’s so therapeutic/soothing listening to the sound of water fall from the filter. My children are as excited growing up with fish watching them swim around.
Not many jobs where the phrase : "and we'll come back later and pull the bodies" would raise not a single eyebrow. Thanks for the behind the scenes walk about. Enjoyable and informative un boxing
Adding the entire quarantine procedure just took an unbeatable fish unboxing to a whole new level. And then you add Robert on top of that. Can I give six stars? Those lyretails were nice; the balloons.... uh... not so much. (give me a wild Monty anyday!)
My quarantine tank is literally a 20 gallon storage tub, i can move an extra sponge filter from one of the running outdoor tubs into it if i need to use it for some fish. Cheap and works.
Platinum angels are my favorite. Also the 1st fish I ever had shipped through the mail. Ordered 8 juveniles and all 8 survived. As they’ve grown the pearl scale look has been appearing on them along with a bright blue striping on their fins. Also a great deal at $1.62 for each
I think it is amazing that you all quarantine your fish. I wish all stores did that, especially for hobbyist like me who don't have a quarantine tank at home.
I completely agree about quarantining your fish. Here are my arguments for doing so: Treating a large display tank has many serious problems other than just the high cost Some meds will stain silicone Some meds will kill inverts Some meds will kill plants Some meds will kill your biological filter Some meds will get into your hardscape and substrate and never fully come out Some fish can't tolerate med doses high enough to kill the pathogen Some fish can't tolerate high enough temperatures to kill the pathogen Catching sick fish can stress all the creatures in the tank Stressing a sick fish can easily kill it Removing a sick fish still leaves the possibility that other fish in the tank will get sick Quarantining new fish in a small tank has big advantages Observation is much, much easier Water parameters can be attended to much easier Treatment is very economical Treatment can be tailored to the specific fish in question Treatment can be tailored to a specific pathogen Reinfection chances after treatment are very low I treat for bacterial, fungal and parasites for a week, change 80% of the water and watch them for at least two more weeks changing water 50% weekly. I would treat more than once if I needed to but I haven't had to yet. I let my water sit in a plastic bin a few hours with a heater and powerhead to stabilize and gas off before use. How does everyone else quarantine?
Todd Ratson , awesome process. I'll be taking notes. I just have my one 10 gallon, betta with 3 loaches, cpds soon. But planning on another 10 gallon soon, for guppies I think. I like your water prep , planning on having tub of sorts to have prepared water on hand
20g bare bottom 82 no light other then the window tanks forever stained blue but i think it looks neat when it gets new water lol but im weird kinds looks like blue kool aid xD its a hospital and quarantine tank running 2 60 gph sponge filters just for that tank and gets a weekly water change just like all the other tanks fish or not.
You guys should do a *lot* more unboxing videos with putting them in quarantine. Pleeease? *Love* seeing more than a snippet snapshot (try saying that 3X fast) of them in the tank. And a few casualties doesn't reflect bad on you, wasn't in your control until you got them, and clearly all quarantine bases are covered. Those pearlescent platinum angels are simply breathtaking, and the cories dancing up/down the glass are sooo cute! Like if you agree with me!
It's very cool to see you guys being so transparent about your fish purchasing and quarantine processes. Open and honest towards your customers, great stuff!
Do you turn off the auto water changes when giving meds? When do you turn it back on? This was super interesting to see your quarantine practices in action!
I love the care and knowledge these guys show. I have one question: what do you do to dispose of the medicated shipping water? That’s a lot of meds to be dumping into the local water.
Thank you for sharing this. I believe too many of us common fishbuyers dont have a clue of what these guys go through befor they eventually land in our tanks! Quarantine at home was overkill in my opinion. Now it will be mandatory.
I LOVE that you have the 1-Week rule for staff. My LFS... I asked them for a YEAR to order a specific Goby, and when they finally actually got them, a staff member bought them immediately.
Oh so exciting!!!! IF ONLY I could shop at your store. The LFS store here never gets anything "different" other then the most common stuff. I would LOVE some of those new baby Roselines. They will always be a favorite of mine.
Loved watching this quarantine process. Nice med process. You are on a different scale than a home setup. It would be good for you to do a “How to” video for folks who keep only one tank. For example. You can use a small storage tub as a quarantine before transferring the fish to its final tank.
Reminds me when I work at a aquarium shop I worked for 15years but didn’t make enough dough to support my family ..but loved it ...and yea that happens alot jumping out the net Robert so don’t be embarrassed 😳
Rams are difficult to import, a fact known by retailers around the world and the hobbyists who keep them. I’d heard that the exporters would dose them with hormones to improve their colour, this takes a toll along with the import process on an already easily stressed species. My own personal best success with German blue rams came from having rams that were locally bred here in New Zealand. I kept mine at 28 degrees Celsius in a densely planted driftwood and river stone tank with dark stone substrate. The dark substrate brought out their colours more as is always the case with cichlids. That cover is definitely a good idea, keep that heat in!
OK. I am definitely a sucker for lyretail fish. I don't have room or time for tanks right now, but I was imagining a tank of those. Thanks for taking the time to share!
Nice video. I think both of them did a good job keeping losses at bay and being entertaining to watch. I bet they even did a final check along the floor and through the bags when the camera was turned off. They obviously love fish and even if you look at it from a store owners point of view...a dead fish is a loss in profit, why ignore it if you can prevent it? They did their best ♥
This has been a learning experience for me. So much I just have not known. And I have never had any shrimp, which is something I do want to try, especially when I get my largest tank set up with lots of greenery. And once I know a lot more. Need to get a lot of medication to have on hand. So much to know. thank you for all you teach with your videos.
I'm always glad to see shrimp shipped with stuff to hold on to... thinking about stressed shrimp in slippery bags or farm ponds without anything to hold on to breaks my over-empathetic shrimp lover heart ;w;
Thanks for sharing. Awesome advice and video. Question 1.How much water do u change in qt and when do you change it? 2. After you dose the meds when next do you redose again? Is it same amount after water change or not? 3. If you see issue not treated by meds do you add new meds to treat or change water then add meds? 4. How long is the qt process and how do you sterilize the tanks for next qt process. 5. Are the qt tanks individual pieces or its 1 long tank you divide in segments? If segmentation how do you make tanks for qt? Thank you.
I started the med trio yesterday since I've never medicated beyond salts and cheap ich meds. I was starting to see a few fish develope inflamed guts. Hope it cures them or at least prevents it from spreading to the healthier fish. I've already had to euthanize one because their gut was twice their size and it was getting bigger everyday and even began getting irregular in shape. I will definitely start quarantining with meds now with anything I get. It's too easy not to and in will greatly improve the lifespan and happiness of my pets. Thanks for the info and tips it's sad this sort of stuff isn't preached in big box pet stores most of us are stuck with. It feels like a lot of fish care is word of mouth or personal experience. It is difficult to just go down to petco and get a reliable answer on something unless you are lucky and the fish attendant really knows their stuff.
Those black rams are so cool! I always love these videos. I need to get some! Also how do you feel about Jimmy moving back to Ohio. Will he still edit the videos?
Thank you for sharing this video. Really enjoyed watching the complete process, better then regular unboxings. I have always dissolved my meds first, glad to see I can just add straight to the tank.
Personally can't stand the ballon fish and I've never liked the blood parrots either. They look like fish you would cull. The lyre tails look great and no just because they are man made strains doesn't make the ballons ok IMO. The lyre tails don't look like a fish that should have been culled. Not my cup of tea.
Thanks for showing this part of the industry Ive never seen before, I always thought that most fish retailers bred them at home lol, I always thought you were supposed to climatise the fish in the bag in the water they are getting added to, I suppose this straight dumping outweighs the risk of introducing problems that could be in the water. good job folks : ) Them swords are nice
Years ago when I managed a fish shop, we had nets that had the wire the size of the bottom of a 5 gal bucket. You put the net in the bottom and gently poured the water into the bucket. There was no rushing water pushing against the fishes bodies. I feel that was a more humane way to transfer large numbers of fish. For our quarantine room, I had custom post it notes printed up. As I medicated each tank, i checked off what medication had been added. We also put new notes on the tanks so that the employees knew what medication to use each day.
I thought I knew what I wanted in my tank now, im not sure. The first sword tail plattys looked very chunky😂 I did really like the second batch of Swordtails. The bright red color would look nice in a planted tank.
Thank you! I finally up my fish game. I have 2 healthy Bettas, one red ear slider, and 2 snails living happy. I learned and continue to learn with this channel. Can you do more videos like this one please? Where can I buy a shirt?
Hey Cory, do you have a video where you talk about how you pick suppliers, and go through that whole process of setting up shipments? For anyone who would like to start their own fish store, international shipping is a must, and it would be interesting to see a video on how that's done. Thanks for another fabulous video!
I don't consider international shipping a must at all actually. Most stores should probably avoid it as they can't do the volume needed and it will bury them with slow moving inventory.
@@AquariumCoop I see, I didn't think of that. Of course the more local, the better, but there just aren't enough local breeders (especially in Canada), to constantly supply staple fish like tetras, for example. Local would also be a lot less of a headache when dealing with permits that can cost a pretty penny, but then again local might not be the cheapest, either. There are pros and cons to both, and I'm not saying everything must be internationally shipped, but it would be difficult to be 100% local as well.
You aren't wrong about black neon tetras. I had a school of about twenty of them in a 29 gal planted aquarium that broke. Moved everything out of the tank (or so I thought) and put the tank out back of the house (it had a crack in the upper front side then curved down to the middle bottom) I left some cruddy plants in it and was going to toss it out on the next free day at the dump. Well.... apparently three black neons somehow got left in it. I just happened to go look at it to make sure it wasn't mosquito central because we had had rain in the four months it sat back there. I was SHOCKED. They were not only alive... but fat and frisky. The water was pretty green.. but dang. I fished them out, qurenteened them for two months and put them in one of my fluval spec V's with a betta and an oto and they are fantastic. They have to be like 4 now or something... and they wern't babies when I got them. THey lived outside in a busted tank all summer. Compleatly shocked!
When I was growing up in Stuart Fl,I had Fresh water Aquariums.I had Mollies,Platys,Swords, ect. When ever I saw ick on any fish,I would net the fish, cotton swab ick, with Mycurichrome, nocks it off fast. Then I would put them back in the tank. There was a Fish Store called Aquatic Life, they told me that trick.Another trick,to speed up a new Aquarium set up,use Distilled Water, already Ph Nuetral, and take a cup of Aquarium water, with bacteria in it,add.
yeesh, those Balloon Swords were _really_ rough. I could see what looks like fungus on quite a few fins. The Platinum Angels are nice, but they never seem to be very popular. When the Koi Angels started coming in 15 years ago (especially the ones from Israel, which were just phenomenal), those would sell all day long.

What wholesale do you use out here in Los Angeles??????
Also when the tanks have few to no fish in them and you add 50 - 100 fish isn’t there not enough bacteria to support that load.?????
Hi! Was wondering, would Murphy not eat the tetras? I was told not to keep any other fish with Mbu, Herbert?
Hi Cory I love Neons when I had Fish
I had just Red Sword tales and Platys

or I guess a piece of thin plastic would work too, but paper will definitely take some of that slime coat.

Villa Dave The dude didn’t have very good technique. Lol
@@jivet3919 he does a lot better when Cory isn't there... I think he's a bit scared of Cory

Where do you bought them???
It's nice to see this transparency in a pet store❤
I think it is amazing that you all quarantine your fish. I wish all stores did that, especially for hobbyist like me who don't have a quarantine tank at home.
I completely agree about quarantining your fish. Here are my arguments for doing so:
Treating a large display tank has many serious problems other than just the high cost
Some meds will stain silicone
Some meds will kill inverts
Some meds will kill plants
Some meds will kill your biological filter
Some meds will get into your hardscape and substrate and never fully come out
Some fish can't tolerate med doses high enough to kill the pathogen
Some fish can't tolerate high enough temperatures to kill the pathogen
Catching sick fish can stress all the creatures in the tank
Stressing a sick fish can easily kill it
Removing a sick fish still leaves the possibility that other fish in the tank will get sick
Quarantining new fish in a small tank has big advantages
Observation is much, much easier
Water parameters can be attended to much easier
Treatment is very economical
Treatment can be tailored to the specific fish in question
Treatment can be tailored to a specific pathogen
Reinfection chances after treatment are very low
I treat for bacterial, fungal and parasites for a week, change 80% of the water and watch them for at least two more weeks changing water 50% weekly. I would treat more than once if I needed to but I haven't had to yet. I let my water sit in a plastic bin a few hours with a heater and powerhead to stabilize and gas off before use.

Thats why you get a hospital tank
Do the meds not alter the cycle of the tank at all?
20g bare bottom 82 no light other then the window tanks forever stained blue but i think it looks neat when it gets new water lol but im weird kinds looks like blue kool aid xD its a hospital and quarantine tank running 2 60 gph sponge filters just for that tank and gets a weekly water change just like all the other tanks fish or not.
They are all so wittle and cute!! The fact that y'all got a LOT of fish, but didn't lose that many is impressive.
Very informative seeing the behind the scenes of the shop, good stuff as always Cory.🤘
Really enjoyed this style of video, from the unboxing throught the medication process everything its really nice to watch
You are a very patient and kind boss, kudos to you Cory! Love the fish!

I LOVE that you have the 1-Week rule for staff. My LFS... I asked them for a YEAR to order a specific Goby, and when they finally actually got them, a staff member bought them immediately.
A decent fish store would be doing orders for the staff anyway and have just ordered extra for staff
You have a fantastic establishment Cory, A lot of UK fish stores could learn from you and I hope they watch your videos!
Oh so exciting!!!! IF ONLY I could shop at your store. The LFS store here never gets anything "different" other then the most common stuff. I would LOVE some of those new baby Roselines. They will always be a favorite of mine.

That was a very entertaining video! Great narration, Cory. Thanks for including us to watch you guys!
A fish jumped onto the carpet as you were emptying the second bag 😞
yep 3:15
Rumor has it that poor fish is still still underneath the aquarium stand
a few more of those will just create some beneficial bacterial floor substrate .
Two
I think it was actually pieces of gravel..
Great video as always. Interested to see how the balloon swordtails turn out.
Thank you Cory and Robert for the behind the scenes video. Great info.
Always interesting & informative!

Does all the wastewater go into the drains? That's a lot of meds.
excellent point...it does
Really enjoyed this video showing what happens behind the scene of fish stores. Very interesting
Best unboxing ever. I really enjoy learning the tips and facts.
This was a cool video, very interesting to watch. Keep making videos like this!
I love this video style. You can go so much more in depth when you aren't doing two things at once, plus its cool to get Roberts insight too.

of those buckets to steady the net.
No third hand ever needed.
The Platinum Pearl Angels are absolutely stunning! 😍
Dennis E. Miller I love them too
Those cherry barbs are very active when popped in the tank! Shipment looks nice
Really neat to see a "behind the scenes" aspect to an unboxing.
This has been a learning experience for me. So much I just have not known. Yes thank you that. I have a 10 gallon QT. All new guppies hit that tank for 30 days. Then they go into the big tank.
Your videos are amazing and so educational . Thank you Cory & Robert .
Thanks for the calcium tip for shrimp👍
I enjoyed watching this behind the scenes video. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
So far from what I have seen, No one has anything on Dean's rams!!!! His Rams are so beautiful! He makes me want pair.
So interesting to see how these huge orders of fish come in and the behind the scenes honesty that not all fish arrive happy happy and ready to party.
Love this unboxing video format. Much better.
those balloon swordtail male s are something else. pearlscale angel was super shiny and adorable
Cool import order! Appreciate all the extra info about the shipping process, we rarely get to see what goes into importing/exporting fish!
Great video! Makes me feel that if I’m buying any fish from here, I’m getting only the best and the healthiest!
Thanks for sharing.
Awesome advice and video.
Question
1.How much water do u change in qt and when do you change it?
2. After you dose the meds when next do you redose again? Is it same amount after water change or not?

hey Cory and Robert, thanks for the inside, especially with the meds. Very interesting to see the process behind a fish store
Cory, I am reinspired by your channel and you! New subbie and bingeing on your vlogs as well. You are making this old fish lady very happy!
Thank you for sharing this video. Really enjoyed watching the complete process, better then regular unboxings. I have always dissolved my meds first, glad to see I can just add straight to the tank.
Really liking the longer videos! 😁
nice swords but not a fan of the Balloon swords. LOVEIN the Angels as Always. Have you ever done Clout ?
Personally can't stand the ballon fish and I've never liked the blood parrots either. They look like fish you would cull. The lyre tails look great and no just because they are man made strains doesn't make the ballons ok IMO. The lyre tails don't look like a fish that should have been culled. Not my cup of tea.
A great insight into behind the scenes of an aquarium shop. Thanks for sharing.
We need your store here in Phoenix!
Great job and very professional!!
You guys are the best, Purchased Fluval Planted 3.0 and plants, great channel great customer service
After meds are in do you stir the water? Later do you change the water in the tanks?
Thanks for showing this part of the industry Ive never seen before, I always thought that most fish retailers bred them at home lol, I always thought you were supposed to climatise the fish in the bag in the water they are getting added to, I suppose this straight dumping outweighs the risk of introducing problems that could be in the water. good job folks : ) Them swords are nice
I HAVENT WATCHED YOU IN A WHILE BUT I LOVE THIS VID YOU GET TO SEE THEM GET PUT INTO TANKS COOL
I am with tropical fish handling for 48yrs. I pity those fishes, the way they transfer them.
Thanks for the upload! I love these unboxing videos!
Love these kinds of videos. Great shop you have there
Your unboxing videos is my favorite videos on youtube
BOB!!!!!! It's always so awesome to see you on video!!! :)
There was a Fish Store called Aquatic Life, they told me that trick.Another trick,to speed up a new Aquarium set up,use Distilled Water, already Ph Nuetral, and take a cup of Aquarium water, with bacteria in it,add.
great video nice to see what goes on behind the scenes love the unboxing too
Love watching unboxing with plenty of B-roll footage
Realistic and informative. Good.
But the best is the person moralizing about fancy goldfish and man made strains while walking their english bulldog
Nice shop, next time I’m in your area,I will stop by and say hi.
Another no nonsense video well done guys
yeesh, those Balloon Swords were _really_ rough. I could see what looks like fungus on quite a few fins. The Platinum Angels are nice, but they never seem to be very popular. When the Koi Angels started coming in 15 years ago (especially the ones from Israel, which were just phenomenal), those would sell all day long.
That looked really cool. Thanks for the inside, Cory :) those swordtails •.• looking realllyyy nice
