This, for me, is the best movie released in 2019. 10 minutes in and I was already in love with the movie. The cinematography was one of the best that I have ever witnessed. A cinematic spectacle with an epic story, great acting performances, one a kind cinematography and an awesome soundtrack. A movie that must be watched as it has a revolutionary cinematography and art of filming. This something that does not often happen very often.
I was conflicted with the choice of music as I wanted to use a different one coming from the soundtrack. Ultimately, I decided that the song would best fit the video. I have seen varying incredible war films over the years - Platoon, Apocolypse Now, Hacksaw Ridge, Dunkirk and more. But this in my opinion, was probably the most moving and engaging I have ever seen. It's also the best movie I have seen depicting WW1 so far. It genuinely felt like I was with the main character throughout the entire movie, I think it was partly the way it was filmed, the whole film feels like a giant tracking shot, there's no breaks and cuts to other characters, it just follows the main character throughout the whole movie. Music was perfectly done, came in when needed but also went silent, highlighting how quite it could sometimes be. WW1 will always be the worst war in my opinion, not out of death toll, WW2 has the highest deaths overall. But WW2 was just so much clearer. It was very clear cut on why the War was happening and why we were fighting. WW1on the other hand is very unclear as to who the enemy was and why the war even started. It was almost as if we just all wanted a war to test out all our new weaponry. No one really won, it was so utterly pointless. That's what resonated with me. So many lost lives fighting over inches of ground they didn't even live on. The brutality and conditions were also insane, Trench warfare was insane, Sending troops over the top to run into machine gun fire, Gas, Trenchfoot, and Rudimentary medicine. It was horrific. Worst of all was the impact back home. Regiments were often made up of local communities - so if an entire division got wiped out the loss wasn't spread out around the country, you'de literally have entire towns when boys went off and no one ever came back. How many parents lost children, how many women were forced into spinsterhood. Thats another one. 12% of the Adult male population literally died. You had an entire generation of women who sadly lost out on marriage/ children simply because their just weren't enough men. This song, this movie just makes me remember all of their losses.
You should watch Oh What A Lovely War best anti war film ever made. And everything depicted in the film are true.
