“Our lives are filled with screens every day”. What a refreshing take on how things are. Like many of my generation, I took up photography in the early 1980s when shooting film was the only option and that’s how I learnt my craft. Fast forward to today, I absolutely love digital and what it gives photographers, but I still appreciate the option of slowing down the whole process and it giving me a cost-effective alternative to my film days. My X-Pro 3 gives me just that. I absolutely love it.
Hypebeasts have driven the price of this camera so high that it is no longer a good option for those who cannot afford Leica.
Still a lot cheaper than leica. I think it’s still worth it
I got sick of my bulky DSLR in 2020 and somehow decided to make the leap to Fujifilm with this beautiful camera and I've never looked back. It's such a shame that Fuji don't seem keen on releasing a new iteration, really hoping they realise how much people love this camera.
The new iteration is likely to come out this year mate
@@ThepPixel Any sources for that?
@@ThepPixel There's been conflicting information about it and some tepid quotes from fujifilm managers. I really hope it does release this year
@@ThepPixel2024
I think many people would prefer the X100V screen.
X-Pro 2 will always be a classic!
I don't feel like it's necessary to upgrade my XPro-2. It does everything I need it to do. It's a true gem of a street camera. Perfect for street photography or almost anything rather than a heavy bulky SLR.
I think the main reasons to upgrade to the 3 would if you prefer the bigger OVF and the back screen (as I do).
The 2 is great, and while I prefe the 3, I actually think the color coming out of the 2s sensor is better.
I used to use a Leica M2 rangefinder with a 35mm f2 Summicron lens for years. And this Fuji XPro2 feels a lot like it which really works for me.
Not a gripe but an experience that quite a few XPRO 3 owners have gone through - hence the class action started against Fuji - re their description as their most 'durable camera' - as many may know but buyer please be aware - the ribbon connecting the LCD has known faults on the XPRO 3 and, unfortunately, like many others I've had to fork out a repair bill - just out of warranty - to have it fixed at the cost of £200. Love the camera so much I own two - but please be aware if purchasing this camera.
Yeah its a common issue. At the moment i just dont flip out my screen more than horizontal so the ribbon gets less stress on it.
Also the shutter button becomes “sticky” or malfunction. It won’t take the shot when you click it but when you shoot another shot it shoots the picture.
@@huntrrams That is the camera. Had two XPRO 3's and one did that, the silver version, but the black, which I kept is fine. Who knows why or how the difference occurs but it certainly is there on some models.
Remember that the mini screen can be switched to an customizable info screen just like on the top panels of the X-H series.
I sold mine recently - I've no idea why, but never got on with it and always reached for my X100V. Image quality was great tho
How do you think the optical viewfinder compares to the x100v? I do think it’s a slightly better implementation in the x100v because it’s basically built in
Would be definitely be my second choice after my x100v
I’m surprised Josh had never used an Xpro before. I love the film simulations because I’m lazy and unskilled at post processing but I don’t imagine they’d be much use to Josh with such a well-developed personal processing style. But there is plenty more to like about Fuji. I use an xt4 and an xe2s. I leave the xt4 screen turned around permanently when shooting stills. Only use the flippy screen for video.
i love the screen... a risky decision by fuji but i wish xpro 4 will be the same
What would you want in an x-pro 4? 🤔
@@frame-lines I want IBIS. Of course we’ll get a new sensor. 40MP or BSI.
Mask On Nurse Marty ((Ret)
In Body stabilization is the biggest want!
Imagine an xpro 4 without a screen but with Bluetooth or sync capabilities where you can preview the image immediately in the viewfinder or phone
I bought the X-Pro 2 after seeing your earlier video about it, and sold my X100T to get it. And I honestly love it. I think I will happily keep it until falls apart, which will probably take a long time as it is truly the AK47 of cameras. I have dropped it on concrete, taken it on 100s of hikes, used it in storms, freezing cold temperatures, at the beach and everything else and it just keeps working. Its also really fun making JPG recipes which 9/10 achieve the look I want.
When I left paid photography (former newspaper shooter), I looked for a lightweight alternative to my pair of Nikons and fast f2.8 zooms. I ended up with a pair of x100S bodies with the WCL on one and a TCL on the other. I ended up selling both and getting the X-Pro2 with the XF 35mm f2 WR lens for a weather resistant setup. The added plus is that is roughly the setup Cartier-Bresson used (Leica M3 and 50mm Summicron), my all time favorite shooter. When I got the Pro2 I compared it with the Pro3 and did not see anything that would prompt me to spend the additional bucks.
We only need a good quality 28 mm equivalent (18 mm) manual focus lens. The closest i could find is an Voigtlander 21 mm f4 adapted to the x-pro's.
Agreed
How is the experience of manually focusing using the OVF? - Josh
You don’t actually needed if you zone focus. Always shooting at f8-f16. But if needed the OVF is useless to focus a manual lens.
@@Wasp9513 I do the same on my X pro 1, just use the OVF for framing and metering, then zone focus
@Framelines its really easy to use zone focus with the OVF, just set the option to instant focus using the AF-L button, that way it will auto focus even when in manual, set your aperture and then auto focus to the ground or to a wall, after training a little bit you will know the distances of where to focus to 2, 3, 5 meters etc. Just focus and look at the digital scale on the OVF. After training it will come naturally.
Its a briljant camera overall but i had bad luck with mine. Sub monitor and main lcd died 2 times. Second time i had to pay for it myself to get it fixed.
Not very happy how fuji handled this very common issue where the ribbon cable gets damaged over time. So time to sell it for me. I just get a panic attack every time i open the damn lcd not knowing when its going to fail this time.
Hopefully the xpro4 or Xpro3 with a normal flippy screen comes out anytime soon.
Ah had no idea that was an issue … glad you got it sorted easily - Josh
@@frame-lines Yeah i was happy with my experience with fuji repair center. Its just gear its fine allways something else to buy.
X100 plasticy???? No! It’s funny I find the xpro 3 plasticy with that plastic screen and titanium body.
The original x100 and X100T felt really hollow/cheap to me. Not sure about the V
For me it's about the weight of the camera, I'm used to feeling that I'm holding something and when I pick the X100 series it feels like a toy instead of a tool, ofc I know it's not and I've enjoyed using it but there's something special about holding the XPro series that always make me WANT to go out and shoot and that for me is the key on choosing a system.
Agreed, they’re very ‘toy like’ - Josh
Love my X-Pro 3 , picked one up when it came out , a real pleasure to shoot with . Sadly my rear / back screen has died , main covered screen still works for now . Def a design flaw as I hear of many other owners having the same issue .
It’s worrying how many comments have mentioned the failing backscreen tbh -Shane
@@frame-lines mine is obviously out of warranty , so if I was to get it repaired it would be at my expense. So long as the main screen doesn't crap out I can live it. It's just annoying considering the cost of the camera :(
Unloaded my DSLR about five years ago and went to the x system w/ x100T. Absolutely loved the camera. Moved on to Xpro3 last year and that’s it. This camera brings photography back to me. The most enjoyable camera I’ve ever used. It makes me concentrate on photography and nothing else. Fuji x system is the bomb!!!!!!
Haha nice one John
I shoot street photography with a Leica M6 film rangefinder and 21/35/90mm lenses.
I shoot street photography with Fuji X-Pro1 and X-Pro2 mirrorless digital cameras with 16/23/56mm lenses.
I tried shooting street photography with a Leica M10 digital rangefinder, but it was not very reliable.
I prefer the X-Pro2 as well. But I can't wait for the X-Pro4! Faster more powerful everything...and most importantly, the likely addition of IBIS.
Fuji's IBIS implementation leaves a lot to be desired. Plus cramming all that into a rangefinder body is likely to make it bulkier overall and that's sort of what you don't want in a rangefinder-style camera. I think rangefinder cameras are for those who don't need nor care about IBIS really. The X-T and X-H series are for those who want everything in a camera.
@@yargnad If there’s an X-Pro4 with 40MP it will have IBIS, guaranteed.
Love my xpro3, it does seem to be the ultimate ‘marmite’ camera…you’ll either love it or hate it, there seems to be no in between 📸
I was surprised by how much I liked it 😅 - Josh
I really enjoy the Pro1 and the softness of its sensor. I’m only interested in the Pro3 because the hidden display makes the camera look… clean.
Ha yep , makes it very clean
I’ve never tried the xpro 1, but I understand the sensor has a unique look? It’s incredible just how Fuji nailed it right out of the park with the xpro 1 and lenses like the 35 and 23 1.4
@frame-lines there’s some uniqueness to the color science of the X-trans1. Results are mostly negligible, but images from this sensor aren’t as clinical as newer ones.
Fuji must’ve studied history and built the Pro line with photographers in mind.
Switched to xpro3 from Sony a7c. And it's just a pleasure to look at it.
I want to pick it up every time I leave the house 😅
I swear there isn’t a camera more joyless than the Sony mirrorless lineup 😅 -Shane
@@frame-lines My exact experience as well. The A7R series is technically excellent and I cannot find the motivation to ever use.
Waiting for A7c ii release in a year or two 😏I still love full frame Sony sensor much more.
X-Pro3 does not have OVF magnification because it introduces a mini display at the corner. So you can have hybrid experience (main OVF with a small EVF mini screen for manual focus magnification and seeing your shot)
I have been intrigued by the X-Pro 3, but used prices are around $1800 and an M240 is $700 more and for me having a true rangefinder with patch is a big thing for me for street. Yeah, grab a 28mm (equiv) true manual focus lens for both, set to f/8 (equiv) and 2 meters and then it is similiar, but man, for street, using a true rangefinder just makes me faster and more in the moment. I have my M240 only using Classic Metering with No LIve view (no weird double shutter), and turn off review so I don't ever use the back screen and it's fast and great output.
I want to be convinced, and I really don't care about brands, but I'm just not seeing what the Fuji gives me over the M for street.
This range was the first mirrorless cameras I truly considered buying . What was there not to like ? In the end I choose a different mirrorless brand , but still retain a love for this creation by Fuji. In fact , back in the film days my first SLR was the ST 701. From there I also shot 6x6 and 5x4 , along with Nikon and Canon gear . So you see, Fuji has been in my blood for decades and is a brand I can recommend to photographers seeking something a little special .
Thanks for the video .
I do think the mirrorless market would be very different without Fuji. They brought a lot of people in to digital photography by making it a lot more appealing to people who enjoyed using film cameras, right? - Shane
Love my xpro-3 because it's such a sexy camera , as you said it makes want to go out and shoot, but beware all is not rosie , had problems with my back screen which stopped working (fortunately was still under warranty) but I 'm wary it will fault again because it seems to be a design default . Another annoying thing is that my shutter button as some totally random microsecond lag which is really bad when in street photography where you need to be very snappy .
That sounds pretty bad. I put a soft shutter on the shutter button to make it feel more ‘immediate’. -Shane
I got sick of using Fuji films cameras after they stopped calibrating their lcds in 2019. I went to buy two bodies of the XT 30 and found that one of them had a warming tint on the LCD. We opened five boxes and all had this stupid warning tint on the LCD. Contacted Fujifilm tech support and they told me that they stopped calibrating lcds on their cameras since 2019. This coincides with the issue with the x-T2 having this stupid problem with the warming tint on the LCD that people brought to the forums.
I have used the XT1, XM1, XE2, XE2s and none had this problem. All perfect b&w on the lcd/evf.
I tested the x100v, x-pro3, xs10,… all the same with this shitty warming effect which tints the lcd to a near sepia. The only bodies that didn’t have this issue were the GFX50s and 100S… seems you have to buy medium format to get a simple calibrated lcd that doesn’t look sepia. Never again
This is my all-time favourite camera, and it's tied with the Nikon FM2n. Both offer everything you need and nothing you don't. Both have excellent glass available for the system. Both can hold their own against their era-appropriate counterparts, regardless of price or popularity. I've shot both for paid gigs and tons of just everyday documenting & street.
The X-Pro 3 is a pragmatic camera for a specific type of shooter. You either don't like it at all, or you're over the moon about it. Either way you sway, I'd understand, but personally I'm in the camp of the latter.
Sadly my X-Pro3 is the victim of a failed external submonitor. The camera still functions and so far the LCD hasn't failed. The weak point appears to be the ribbon connector. Not a great loss but I did depend on the submonitor to display the F-stop when using a lens not having an external aperture control as I generally shoot in aperture priority mode.
In nearly all mirrorless cameras you can turn off the screen, if you want the 'Film Photography Experience' 😂😂😂
Some will even allow you to fold the screen in to the camera. This fuji set up is so pretentious in my openion
If you really want the film experience get a film camera!
Great video, still using my X-pro1 and trying to make some better UA-cam videos about it. Going to buy a X-Pro3 soon.
Yes, there is something special about the XPRO2. Mine sits right next to my XT3, and it's the XPRO2 I pick up everytime I go out to shoot street photography. I have more fun and feel more creative with the XPRO2. Why? Magic!
Leica Q2 is made for street photographers..... and monochrom is the best
Bold statement
@@frame-lines6k versus 2k camera. Not bold imo. You get what you pay for.
On point ! I learned on a Leica IIIf as a young boy, then decades later the X-Pro1 was the first digital camera I really loved using. Today, I do my professional work with GFX and X-T5 / X-H2S ... but my "always with me camera" is the X-Pro3 ....
Do you think a lot of that is down to the form factor of the camera? I know I hate carrying around DSLR style cameras -Shane
@@frame-lines Absolutely YES. Most guys only talk about / compare tech specs. But let's face it: A camera (like any other tool) is the linking piece between our vision of the picture we want to capture and the final product (let it be a .jpg or a fine art print). The ergonomics and the way this camera feels like a custom tailored glove plus the amazing color rendering sooc makes it my all time fav. (up to now and talking about digital cameras).
Fujifilm‘s had an interesting idea with the x-pro 3 screen. I can imagine that it works out for some people, but i also prefer the x-pro 2 design. When i want no screen on the back, i turn it off or i take one of my analoge cameras. My assumption is, that the x-pro 4 will get this new 40mp sensor and the same flip screen like the 100v. I would prefer no flip screen at all.
I really hope they don't just shove the Xt5 sensor in the Xpro 4 and call it a day. - Shane
One of the deal-breakers why I sold my fuji is the focus by wire. You can't beat Leica's focusing on the Q series. BUT the flip screen is what I like the most about the X-Pro3
The focus by wire is somewhat of a bummer. I have been considering some Voigtlander glass for that very reason.
Wasnt massively into the focus on the Q, thought it was quite stiff and had a very long throw, much prefer it on M rangefinders. But yes, focus by wire is awful - Josh
OVF & film simulations definitely make the difference but forget it with lens > 35mm.
Yep I agree. It’s really designed around 35mm. Even 28mm is a bit hampered because it doesn’t show the exact framelines for it.
I favour the X-Pro and X-E series in Fuji's model line up but haven't bothered with the latest version of each model due to the reported screen issues, failures on the Pro3 and image flipping on the X-E4. I remain interested in watching new developments of the lines, ( hopefully ), but I think it's hard to beat the feature to quality to used price combination of the older X-Pro2 & X-E3/X-E2"s for me as a keen hobbyist. They hit the sweet spot for my needs.
I've never tried the XE models. They seem sort of pointless with the lack of an OVF- or at least that's why they don't appeal to me. They may as well be a sony a6000 or something. -Shane
Think they are bringing out new fuji camera's but maybe not another xpro. 🤔
They bring a new one out most weeks 🫣 - Josh
Just get a film camera. All this pretending to be film is so cringe.
Great video, but these talks about bulld quality are always so generic and misleading. You Leica people always say other cameras are not up there in terms of buld quality, but what does that actually mean in real world terms? Leicas are more heavy and thick? But in this case, the X-Pro 3 is made if incredibly durable materials, in many cases more than a Leica and it it's WATER AND DUST RESISTANT, so for me and many many other people, in real life usage, the X-Pro 3, or almost any "modern" DSLR/Mirrorless camera has better build quality than a Leica M for example.
I put a range Finder m Mount lens on thé fuji xpro1 and xpro2 and it feels great
I have an adapter and a few m mount lenses I’m going to try over the next few weeks. -Shane
Love my xpro3. Def can't go back to SLR styles now.
I love how much space my nose has with rangefinder style cameras 😅 - Josh
I Love my X-PRO3 AND still shoot with my M6, These X-PRO3 are actually underrated. OUTSTANDING camera.
I share your philosophy. I once owned a Leica M6 and sought to digitize the 35mm Summilux lens I had at the time. I did this with a wonderful Fujifilm XE3. Since then, I've owned 7 more Fujis X. In summary, I greatly enjoyed the XE3, and I ended up keeping only an Xpro1, with its sweet sensor and marvelous colors, and the Xpro3, the best digital camera I've ever had. This is my experience.
What lens is that - XF35mm f1.2?
The 35mm f2 and the one josh is holding is the 24mm f2
It's OK. I sold my x-pro 2 a few years ago and stuck with my Nikon FM and an Olympus 35SP rangefinder. Both 35mm. Film cost was getting mental so I bought an x-pro 3 and a fujinon 35mm f/1.4 a few months ago. Going back to digital from film is a faff, imo. It feels somehow less immediate. With the simpler film cameras, the camera is invisible; there's just me and the images. With the X-pro 3, there camera is always there between me and the picture, doing its thing. I can't really get used to it.
Could you guys discuss the inaccuracy of the X-Pro OVF? Based on personal experience, and many posts on Fuji forums, the captured image adds ~5% of extra space at the bottom and right margins (i.e., outside the shown frame lines). The best solve other Fuji users have found is: try to estimate the inaccuracy of the frame lines. This renders the OVF nearly useless if you wish to carefully compose images. This is a problem Leicas don't seem to have, and makes me wonder if this is why 35mm AF rangefinders never took off (e.g., Hexar AF). Thoughts? Solutions?
I really want to like it when I use to have it. But just picked up my m6 and sold the Fuji. It didn’t really have the same responsiveness as the Leica where If I press the shutter it clicks vs having it hunt in certain situations. That’s just me
It’s not just you. Nothing feels as responsive as an M camera imo. They feel so precise, especially the film cameras right?
This kinda of generic, where you shooting in manual mode? Manual iso and exposure? If not, any digital camera will be "less" responsive than I analog camera. If you put a digital camera in all manual, like an analog camera, there will be minal processing before the shutter releases. I really think these comments without information are damaging to photography in general, makes people believe in urban legends, like full frame is so much better than APC-S.
I like how it still has a screen but just a bit more hidden away. Unlike the few digital leica M-Ds and Pixii which has no screen at all.
I get the appeal but you probably wouldn't take it out as much on vacation. The Xpro3 seemingly did pretty much everything right.
Great video!
It's also the closest you can get to the Rangefinder feeling with a mirrorless camera.
Definitely !
Ditto, I too owned an M6 back in the late 80s for a few years, but I simply could not justify the $1800 (1987 dollars) for a camera that rarely used as I everyday working gear was Canon. At the end of the day, it was ego and G.A.S. that compelled me to purchase the ‘6’. Fast forward 33 years the X-Pro3 is now one of 4 Fuji rigs that I own and indeed it does have that siren call….”pick me up and shoot me…” that is difficult to ignore, I love this camera. Interestingly enough the X- Pro in 2020 cost almost as much as the M6 did in 1987.
I completely agree that the optical magnification should have been included. That was a mistake on the part of Fuji.
Great camera until the rear screen fails, which seems to be a common occurrence unfortunately. It’s the thing that has stopped me buying one. Hopefully the XPro4 will deal with this issue.
I had no idea this was a thing. Meanwhile my xpro 2 is still going strong 👀 -Shane
@@frame-lines the XPro2 is fine it’s the ribbon connector on the xPro3 that fails. Seems the small screen fails first followed by the large one.
The big problem for me is that Fuji only has focus by wire lenses. I really dont want to rely on AF on the Street. If they'd made a nice 18 and a 23 that is good for manual focus I might actually use my XT2 again.
In the Xpro3 I'm using a CV 35/1.4 Nokton on an adapter and still using the OVF with the electronic focus path thingy. But I agree that the Fuji focus-by-wire experience is probably the worst out there. Even the clutch designed lenses feel like an afterthought.
@@mvonwalter6927 I thought about getting the X-Mount CV but then I thought to myself if I really want to spend 650€ on a lens that doesnt perform too well, isnt really my focal length (28 equiv, or at least 35) just to get something useable. Ultimately I decided to just switch to film for rangefinder stuff and use the GR for digital. Eventually I could then also switch to digital RF and use the same lenses for both
@@TheChosenOne_ Maybe CV will come out with an 18mm that has their aspherical elements after this 23mm. The Fuji 18/1.4 is too big for me.
I have had two digital Leicas and I tend to think film RF makes more sense somehow.
It’s why I love my Q2M. I rarely use af. The manual focusing is great.
@@chrisathanasiadisphoto I really enjoy manual focusing on a good EVF. Does the lens on the Q have a good dampened feel to it?
I like 28 but tend to operate in the 50-85 range most. But even with 24mp on the original Q it's enough to crop so as not to get the perspective distortion of a 28mm.
The screen is why I've waned one for some time now. I haven't pulled the trigger yet since it's still somewhat out of my budget range and I've read bad things about the flex cable on the flip out screen not being very durable. The fact that they've discontinued this model before a successor is released makes me super wary about dropping such a huge dime on one of these.
cant wait for the "a camera made for street photographers - xpro3" video in a few months
This video is about the x-pro 3
Picky Picky ????
I used the X-Pro 3 for about 2 years after jumping to it from the X100F.
A few issues that wore on me
- The camera would freeze for no reason and require the battery to be pulled to reset. Firmware updates did not solve this for me.
- The screen got tiring really quickly. I can easily not look at the screen or turn it off on a camera that has it available, but the fact that it made it a gimmick made doing simple things really frustrating.
- The OVF never really made it "film" like for me. It just felt like a digital Contax G.
That said though, I really do miss the 18/2 lens and the Fuji files. So so good.
Agreed about the screen. I don’t like that I have to pull it out to do a simple thing like review a photo I just took. I think josh’s point about making it seem like film, is that all film cameras have an OVF so it feels similar in that way -Shane
Definitely my favorite digital camera
X100V swinging in the air rn
No, Its not made for street photography specifically.
Oh yes it is
It always makes me smile when we talk about cameras. The photographers we admire so much used gear that by today's standards are pretty crap! So surely we don't need to concern ourselves too much?
I think the main thing is that camera tech hasn’t really changed in a decade - also you’re very kind ❤️ - Josh
I agree with Shane. I have an X-Pro 2 and love it
They really had a mountain to climb to try to outdo the xpro 2 imo. I am glad they did something a bit different with the xpro 3 though. It would have sucked if they only updated the sensor.
@@frame-lines I know the X-Pro 3 is a bit of a marmite camera, but the only real issue I have with it is the OVF magnification feature that they dropped and which you mention in the video. I agree they had to do something a bit different but removing useful features seemed a bit daft.
Btw - your videos are excellent. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Josh how does the XPRO3 compare to your GX80?
Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Bigger, the OVF is the biggest difference - the EVF is the only weakness of the GX80 IMO - Josh
A few weeks testing a camera, that's a small computer!. Wow! Modern sayings meaning nothing whatsoever.. See out side the 'Frames' usually pertaining to Leica M Rfdr. Well correct for M3, then later M2. After that it's hooha! On my M6, if one can look outside the 28mm frame, there's no space. I can barely see the frame without glasses! The OVF is better!! Real screens, SLR, DSLR and Mirrorless predominate. Your phone, Everybody's freaking Phone! (roughly 7 Billion users!) I shoot daily. Mostly 'framing' with the small screen. Small compact cameras. Composing a word for still lifes like 'Food' photography. We, HCB, all M users do is Frame! Is the Fuji a better priced Leica.? No! Never! Only Leica is a Leica, even messed up in digital. Any real photographer pro (i was) or Amateur that uses one, has a feeling for the camera and Leitz/Leica lenses. It is part of one! The other silly statement, 'Is there any thing else, i can do for you?'
I really wanted to respond but honestly, your reply is so scattered and incoherent I don't even know where to start buddy. - Shane
@@frame-lines Lol, glad it wasn't just me 😂
I have a range of Sony and canon cameras I use for the work. The XPro 3 is what comes with me everywhere. Its my personal camera. The other bodies only come out when there is a job, ther XPro 3 goes everywhere with me.
One thing we didn't mention about the xpro 3 is that it's a camera that is comfortable to wear. I think that's a really undervalued thing, and it's one of the reasons I'd reach for it over my mirrorless or dslr bodies. Likewise for M cameras. - Shane
@@frame-lines Agreed. Its a wonderful camera to use and carry. It unfortunately is also one if not the most mocked camera I have ever read about. All because of the rear screen. The lack of rear screen during normal use is the main reason why I purchased it. It now lives with my Leica Q3. I still use it like before, sharing the love.
Hello, what is lens square hood? Very beautyful)))
It's from squarehood.se - they make a range of really well built hoods for most fuji lenses
Great video again, guys. The X-Pro has a special place in my heart. I’ve owned all three iterations and used them for personal work. The one I liked best was indeed the X-Pro2. I never cared for the gadget subscreen, nor the awkward and vulnerable flip-down LCD of the X-Pro3. If you don’t want to chimp, just switch it off. The lack of dual magnification OVF was a real downer for me and enough to return the X-Pro3. Even though the OVF/EVF itself was much better. I too preferred the 24MP raw files of the X-Pro2 over the 26MP files of the X-Pro3.
In the end I sold all three X-Pro’s and moved to Leica’s M10-M and M10-R. I probably won’t, but in case Fuji decides to make an X-Pro4, here are some tips that may make me buy it.
Stick to the 3.69MP EVF and the 26MP sensor. For street photography, cleaner files at higher ISOs are more important than 40MP resolution. The 3.69MP EVF uses less battery than the 5.79MP. Use the X-Pro3 OVF, but add dual magnification. Use the ISO-dial of the X100V and either a fixed LCD or the tilting LCD of the X100V. IBIS would be nice, unless it adds size to the camera. Please use the clean lines of the X100V and the X-E4. The X-Pro3 still had too many folds and disruptions. E.g. around the VF window. But most important, please, please add linear manual focus with a configurable degrees of rotation! MF as it is now, is pretty much useless.
Ok, I'm glad it's not all in my head about preferring the XPro 2 raw files. -Shane
@@frame-lines No, I noticed it too. First, Fuji, like most brands, does some noise reduction and sharpening already on the raw file. On the 26MP files it is way too aggressive to my liking. That way, high ISO images show plasticky skin sooner than with the 24MP files. Furthermore, the raw images of the 24MP seem a bit flatter, making it easier to grade. These are small differences and by no means dealbreakers, but when offered a choice…
if only it had a bayer sensor...
My problem with the X-Pro3 is the shutter button. For some reason, the only way you can do rapid single shot is to half press the shutter button between clicks of the shutter button, otherwise it doesn’t always fire (like the shutter is sticky, but it’s not). Meanwhile, the cheaper X-E4 doesn’t have this issue.
Strange, I hadn’t noticed that until reading this comment and trying it - you’re right but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker for me - Josh
@@frame-lines totally fair, I think for me I just like shooting multiple frames in rapid succession and it always seemed jarring that it docent respond how I expected
Really hope fujifilm lean more into the rangefinder aspect of the camera with the x-pro 4 by maybe simulating the rangefinder patch in the OVF and releasing one or two manual lenses. Can't really justify leica's digital cameras, the limitations make more sense on their film cameras for the price imo, so would love an alternative. On that note, will ye guys ever take a look at the Pixii camera?
I think that’s an incredibly complex thing to do, and also wouldn’t work with their autofocus lenses very well maybe? However I would love if they just made the OVF the key feature of the camera, maybe even a version of the camera that only has an OVF? One that’s super big and bright. -Shane (ps would love to check out the pixii)
An X-ProA (analog) film camera would be killer. But then again Fuji is killing off their film.
Ha yep not sure that’s on the cards
@@frame-lines I'll settle for an X-Pro Full Frame with a new set of primes.
I think X-Pro 2 is still the sexiest out there for street photography. I have no intention to "upgrade" for X-Pro 3.
Haha fair enough! Thanks for watching
I upgraded and then 'downgraded' to the Xpro 2 again -Shane
@@frame-lines hahah wise move👌🏼
I hated mine….but the xpro-2 is much nicer…if it had the tilt screen of the xt-5 it would be my ideal…❤
Haha the screen is so divisive ! Nice one Peter
Xpro 2 club ✋
Now wait for this one to be out of stock.
I long for the day where we have that much influence 😅 -Shane
Using Xpro3 with voigtlander nokton 23mm f1.2 make shooting so much more fun.
How do you find manually focussing it ?
@@frame-lines I use zone focus with ovf, with the small evf at the corner to check my exposure.
I bought the XF 23mm f1.4(the old one with distance scale) to try zone focusing at first, but manual focus on that lens didn't fill right, so i brought the voigtlander only for zone focusing, and use Fuji lens for autofocus situation.
@@frame-lines Apologize for my bad English, i finally understand what are you asking. Manually focusing this lens feel smooth and accurate, image quality is better than my XF 23mm F1.4 R, but two things i wish can improve. No focus tab and the distance scale is a little bit off(I think the distance scale on the lens is for 23mm full farm, no for 23mm apsc), otherwise it's a perfect manual lens for fuji x mount!
Manual focus on Xpro3 is not a good experience if you like focus peaking, peak on evf is not that visible, i often need to open the hidden LCD to check my focus again. About ovf, the small screen at the corner is to small to focus peaking for me, so for me the only choice to manual focus on Xpro3 is zone focusing. Using auto focus lens to manual focus is not a enjoy experience too, the focus distance that show on camera is a little bit lag, it makes zone focusing almost impossible, so you need the distance scale on the lens, but most of fuji lens doesn't have it.
If you like zone focus and got a manual lens than Xpro3 is a fun camera to use, but if you like focus peaking and your lens got the autofocus kind of focus ring, then i think you will have a hard time using it.
Xpro3 is the only camera I have bought twice. It's fantastic with the 27/2.8 and the OVF. It just gets out of the way and lets you compose with the framelines with little fuss.
I've had two digital Leicas and I was always on the hunt for contrasty points to RF focus on that it felt a little useless without resorting to zone focusing or stopping down more. Because of that my Xpro shots were always sharper when shooting at a moderate-fast pace. A Leica has its own strong points but for the majority of us the Xpro captures all of those strengths without many compromises.
It’s crazy to think that Fuji are the only brand making consumer level mirrorless cameras with OVFs afaik. They really have such an excellent line of cameras with the xpros and x100s. I’m not sure if I’d really compare them to M cameras but it’s great to have something close to an M experience at a price that isn’t insane -Shane
@@frame-lines The M, or a manual focus RF more generally, is a very special thing that you are just not going to get with a Fuji. But I really question it when people say that means the Leica "gets out of the way" because in my few years with them it was the RF focusing that was in the way all of the time!
To me it's the compositional advantage lay in using frame lines to intuitively see what's in/out of frame, and Fuji does have that.
But I do reallllllly love investing in jewel like all-metal manual lenses and no digital sensor seems to handle them like a real M (that isnt crop at least). Certainly no digital body feels like an M either.
LEICA Q2 - period.
No optical viewfinder. Period. -Shane
Also, it costs literally twice as much, and it it doesn’t even have phase detect autofocus. It has contrast detect which is an industry joke. Period. -Shane
Plus you’re stuck with one lens. Period.
