Both conductor and singer were new to this music. Years earlier they had performed together Tristan excerpts and Walkure Act 1.

Thank you very much for the video - James King was without any doubt one of the great Wagner singers of the century! And he had the best German pronunciation of all foreigners on stage...

What nonsense. He speaks with a heavy accent in all words! So much that I keep shaking my head. 3:46 He says "das ist ein Mann!". Instead of "Das ist KEIN MANN". He didn't even know what he was singing. Makes no sense.

@dilvishselar Thank you so much for your kind answer. He sounds great!!! I guess that 60 could be a great age, specially for "Heldentenors"!!!. My vocal maestro told me once, that even if he was not too dark and heavy vocally, he was prefered over other tenors, due to his vocal talent and his perfect musicality.Thank you again for sharing this wonderful video!!!BRAVOO!!!

King was a late bloomer . he was in his late 30s when he "arrived" on the international scene. and he sang for a number of years after this. last time i saw him was as Herod in Salome in Chicago. He sounded great (although its hard to tell in that role)

He never attempted Siegfried 'cause he said he had the voice but not the endurance for that role (the same applied to Tannhauser and Tristan).
He added that should he had decided to sing this role, this would have taken away ten years of his career

Great!!! he , even if he is doing it in a concert form, still delivers a vivd and emotional Siegfried. He was with Claude Heater, the two best "heldentenors" for my concept, America gave us all!!!!. How old he is in here?, he sounds still marvelous!!!

      @@tenorschofield Ty!
I daresay there are a number of American "heldentenors" who, though they achieved international acclaim, didn't have the careers they truly deserved ie Richard Cassilly, James McCray, William Lewis and William Johns, to mention but a few of them.
