The great ladies are on the stage singing magnificently ! As some critic said of Flagstad’s I Isolde - all needed is the great lady on the stage and it is a success😌!

She is singing, but in a lower register. Afterwards she sang full on in the dubbing stage. Hollywood did this frequently, they didn't want the singers to show strain in their appearances.
I very much doubt that Flagstad would show any strain when singing, even if they would have made live videos of her singing - when you sing like that, there can be no strain!
This may possibly have been dubbed, but what is the source of your specific information? Also, what do you mean "lower register?" "Register," as the term is commonly used in singing, relates to how different singers vocal mechanisms function in different pitch ranges. It has nothing to do with whether a singer's performance is live or dubbed.
Before I heard her in a Handel Messiah role = rather mediocre /not really her stuff. But in those wagner roles she is a perfect match - her rather hard norse accent in this case supports interpretation there. Norse shield maiden singing Handel mellow role about jesus - nope! Norse shield maiden singing Wagner shield maiden - definetively yess!
Now I’ve been convinced that Flagstad is indeed singing live. I had never seen another clip of her singing live, and it seemed to me she was singing too effortlessly to be singing live, especially this scene. I have never seen another soprano sing this with such easiness. She was such an incredible soprano. For me, she’s the greatest Wagnerian soprano that the world has ever heard.
Amazing. I wish I'd been alive then to hear her in person.
Thank you for posting. I feel so fortunate to be able to hear and see this amazing lady. Gave me goosebumps.
Imagine to hear this on the first chair!
The greatest singer of the 20th century
One of the greatest singers of the 20th century.
Agreed!!!
One of the greatest voices of the last century !
Beautiful singing!

Here you have a real germanic goddess . NO effort, that came out quite naturally
By the way she was Norwegian and not German...In the Ring is not really Germsn
The rootd, Edda, are in Norway and north...
I would pick the term Nordic over Germanic

Magnificent!
@@gr__mskVery different breeds
but a pity the top was flat. Nilsson has much better technique than Flagstad
Se la acuso de.tantas cosas. El destino la llevo a eso, ella no interpretaba a una Valquiria, ella era una Valquiria y no podia ser.de.otra forma
Wooooooow!!! Beautifuuuul!
Шикарно! Высший пилотаж
Today....this would be considered anachronistic high camp😅
High camp, really, you do know this is from Wagner's Ring ? Still performed all over the world?

pippofan you are correct. Almost all Hollywood movies were lip-synced after 1932. There are no videos of Flagstad singing “live”, alas.

Singing is hard work
@@richarddelguidice6416 yes it is! but on the inside, not on the outside 🙂

É considerada maior intérprete de Wagner ?
Si
I always shut my eyes in order not to see her strange acting... But her singing is beyond every singer of today.
as if there was so much we "could" watch....

Noticed there were no ladies playing in the orchestra. Things have come a long way since.
You mean everything fell apart, right ?

No one cares.
I bet precious few of the men were gentlemen either!
@@syncopate50That's a bit of a sweeping presumption 😅
Is she singing live here or is it a recording with her lipsyncing? Thanks for the clip.
If she's miming, she's lip synced the house down!
She's lip-synching.
She's singing live.
Far too exact for being synced.

I know she wasn't the most spellbinding actress, but this seems lipsynced over a soundtrack.
Yeah it was in a movie.
L Immensa Flagstadt
Americans, can imagine them saying to Wagner, can you cut the opera down get to the action
Truly a parody of what classical music public public was...😊 so American, the announcer...😅
That's what I thought. It looks ridiculous
I think anything that gets classical music before the public is positive.
It’s Bob Hope. He was a superstar.
