    This brought back some very fond memories for me since I got engaged to be married at the Botanical Gardens back in 2013, it was Saturday July 27th. I proposed to my wife on the "Kissing Bridge" while looking out for some Manatees. Thanks for the great video, and the memories, take care and keep the wonderful vlogs coming.

    I used to go to the gardens all the time. Kinda miss it. So sorry to hear the cricket ground is not there anymore. I lived only three blocks from there off of Robb Street if I can remember properly. You gotta pay now?😳 We used to just walk in if I can remember right. Almost 33 years since I left home. I noticed that this video was shown 2 years ago. Ten years ago, I brought my children to Guyana, and they wanted to visit the zoo. From this video, the area is still the same. Small unclean enclosures for the animals. The play area for children was too messy, especially when it's raining. You could see the walls of the cages covered in green slime. I am proud of Guyana, but visitors, especially children, concentrate on poor hygiene. There was a lamed donkey and the children were upset. Hopefully, there is vast improvement by now.

    London calling: Firstly I would like to congratulate you on producing these videos, they are quite eye opening. Unfortunately ever since you started these videos the weather hasn't been its best, which is a shame. You'll have to do them all over again when the sunny season comes. Whilst driving through town and all the main roads, apart from the one or two new buildings the rest, in my opinion and as I mentioned before, need to be demolished. My first visit to Guyana was in 1972, I was sixteen then and my impression of the city then wasn't that great and having seen this video nothing has changed. Many of the old main buildings need to be regenerated big time, the rest flattened. Road etiquette still doesn't exist, I shudder to think of the road accidents and deaths per year. Apart from the craters in the road and the lack of road markings I would imagine drivers must change their cars very often. Now for the botanical gardens and zoo. Again this hasn't changed much over the decades. The zoo, well I'm totally against animals being kept in captivity but the zoo has gone beyond cruelty, again this environment has not changed since my first visit. I would like to hear what animal environmentalists if ever they visit this place have to say, It is absolutely disgusting and the authorities should be ashamed of themselves. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next local tour.
    PS: Your son looked very tired.

    Yes sir. They do have cages for people. It's called jail ..lol I've noticed many of the animals in the zoo is not in their natural habitat in their cages. The Government and Ministry of Tourism did put money aside, it's in their pockets. :)

    Another earlier commenter mentioned that it would be better to just close the dam thing. I agree 😊❤️. Why does guyana need a zoo anyway?
    The biggest thing I see about guyana is that it's seems to be stuck in time.
    Everything was built in the heydays and that was it. None of the following government added to the legacy of the 60s.

I'm a proud Guyanese first and foremost I could look at a scenario through clinical or objective eyes and be unbiased or impartial in my assessment yet those that are Guyanese natives that have wronged me that my sentiments and or inflammatory remarks towards anyone or people is clearly reactionary. The two times I visited Guyana since expatriate as a minor auntie made me soree and auntie is Anil mother so I'll let her Anil and Uncle speak on it for what it is worth in closing indeed this is terrible horrific and tantamount to Acts of the Gestapo y'all know what I bespeaks

    Thank you for making such an effort to showcase Guyana, but it's sad to see how rundown Georgetown looks! The roads are terrible, needs some good German engineering to put them in order (forget the Chinese, whose workmanship is questionable). Also some of the beautiful old buildings, including the delapidated St. George's cathedral which should be restored as heritage sights! There seems to be no clear road markings and pedestrian crossings, leaving navigating the roads to chance for the drivers and pedestrians!The botanical gardens and zoo leave little to be desired - in a pathetic state - absolutely horrible! The animal environmentalists would be absolutely appalled! Guyana is a country with enormous potential, but seems to be badly managed. It makes me wonder what the Government spends the taxpayers' money on. I lived twelve years in Singapore, which has one of the most incredible zoos in the world. Guyana should take a leaf out of their book, and this is a country with no natural resources - only people, but take a look at its economy - one of the most successful in the world, because it simply comes down to good management! This is what Guyana lacks! Nevertheless, I enjoy your positivity and and your nice caring manner to your family - a good dad and husband! Once again, thank you, and I shall look forward to your posts, and wish you and your family all the best.

      @Tampa0123456789 4 роки тому

      Simone mentioned Signapore? Didn't guyana get independence around the same time 🤣😁. Lol politics sucks. Singapore was given special treatment but Guyana still had time to get its act together. Hopefully and luckily people are tired of the status quo and and are no longer willing to except mideorcy. Especially since the age no of the internet where we can compare.

    • @Sankofah
      @Sankofah 3 роки тому

      Sonia, your analysis is absolutely correct. It is what happens when you are working from a British template. Anywhere the British and other colonists have gone, all they have done was to extract resources and leave the countries in a state of arrested or underdevelopment. As you mentioned, Singapore had the British template which they got rid of and created their own. I look at how developed Hawaii is and I think to myself, Guyana is so much larger than Hawaii and look at how underdeveloped it is. The politicians continue to do what the British have done, they enter into Government, enrich themselves and leave the country in a dilapidated state.

    Having grown up in Kitty and spent many a Sunday at the Botanical Gardens and Zoo I'm extremely disappointed in the physical condition of the exhibits. The deteriorated condition seems to be the results of years of deferred maintenance, underfunding and severe mismanagement. The decrepit conditions of the animal exhibits, small enclosures bearing little or no resemblance to their natural habitat. The lack of stimuli also indicates that we may not have qualitfied Zoo keepers, Wildlife biologists, Conservation biologists and Outdoor recreation planners, etc. It's discouraging to see the bored spider monkeys just sitting on the floor. Pumas, solitary animals with wide ranging territories, caged into small enclosures. Thank you for the vlog bringing this to light. The reason I couldn't like had nothing to do with you. I hope that with anticipated increased revenues from oil that this situation is rectified with improved and larger exhibits. Even if it means separating the Zoo from the Botanical Gardens by moving it. Large tracts of land are available on the outskirts of Georgetown. The Botanical Gardens, now becomes a bit larger, with a more focused fauna mission and better suited for events. The zoo similarly, containing some animals found only in our geographic location should be made into a place of pride, it's our children's birthright. A modern and state of the art facility that we then can proudly advertise to the increasing inflow of Eco tourists. That would be a win-win for all. With the animals in modern exhibits and attracting tourists comes employment with better pay. Guyana on the move forward adapting to the the ways of the world.
