    Indeed this stelling brings back some memories. I crossed the Demerara river back in the early 80s on the MV Makouria.
    The ferry gangway was supposed to be taken down and be installed at Parika and Bartica since one of 'the three' Makouria class vessels ply that route. Why leave it to rust? I suggest Public Infrastructure Ministry look into this early. Who else agrees???
    Great videos as usual. Keep it up.

    This brought back so many good memories for me, as a child I used to make that journey across the Demerara river using the transport ferry daily to attend high school. It is incredibly sad to see how the stelling is left to rot away, if restored it could be a thing of beauty and would create a very good first impression as you approach it from Georgetown. You make me want to come home now but I will soon.

    Thanks for bring this for all to see. I used to take the ferry at Vreed en Hoop to Gtown every day and back while going to school in GTown. Those were the days when we had private wooden busses like Makeba, and Prime Minister and then later the Tata buses imported from India. I was there the morning when Bruck-up run his truck filled with plantains and with no brakes down thru Makouria gangway and into the river. A sailor jumped in after him and Bruck-up ended up saving the sailor. Next day the newspaper headline read "sailor saved truck driver from drowning." Bruck-up was mad as hell.

    Kudos to you. Keep up the excellent work. Really appreciate the time taken to showcase Guyana and all it's beauty. The various villages and towns in all the different counties or regions. Not to mention your cooking skills. In addition to the various places to eat. Above all your importance and view on life and family which I share.👍🏼
    Very sad to see the deplorable state of the Vreed-en-Hoop, Georgetown ,and Stabroek Market stellings. These have been famous landmarks and memorable places which have been pivotal to people's livelihood. The government needs to set a priority for rebuilding and renovating them. Use the ferry crossing mainly for cars and optional for passengers. So an open type pontoon ferry with some passenger accommodation may be used that will enable front and back loading and unloading. Ensure berthing for launches is catered alongside for continued faster travel as at Parika.

  • @ramfrancisuk
    @ramfrancisuk 5 років тому +9

    Government should really use the Stelling for a Mall, Business Centre, Offices, Small workshopsm Cinema etc. It is a good sized space

    Great tour and adventure across the Demarrara River from Georgetown . Agree the ferry service need to be restored.
