Isnt it a total waste of Energy doing such a trivial task by "AI" offline in the Car, permanently utilizing the CPU/GPU? I can understand that FSD need that, but "Auto WIper". Cmon this makes no sence to do dozens of calculations just to detect "rain" which can be done by a 12V 0.2A (max. 2,4w) Sensor. I think they talk Bullshit. The havent buildt in this Sensor and the python script cant get the work done and the tell us AI Bullshit to prevent us from suing the ass out of them...

Waste of energy, yes. @@jboxbergerBut if you six million cars on the road and can save the $25 autosense hardware, that's a lot of long term savings. Ask anyone with conventional autowipers, sometimes you need to go manual. And the system adds to replacement windshield costs, when it needs to be recalibrated.
So adding it to the AI is a good long term solution. Meanwhile, the existing working tech should be kept.

Ah, the wipers....having owned my model 3 for 5 years it's interesting to see how this has evolved. While there have been many improvements and setbacks, I can't really say that they've figured it out yet. Was really bad about 3 releases ago, and seems better now. Hope it gets better from here.

My absolute number one frustration with my Model Y. Trip to Florida last week, 11 am with bright sunshine, and I cruising on autopilot. Lights come on and so do windshield wipers, smearing love bug residue across my very dry windshield. AI could have learned something new from my verbal response.

I expect to be able to schedule a drive within a minute accuracy not 15. The wipers start automatically when needed and at the right speed. To have the turn signal start when on navigation before the turn. I expect to have the car ask me what music I want to hear. Voice assistant turning on signal for turns. Add the opening of the frunk when standing few seconds in front of the car. Using the internal camera to identify who is driving and activate the correct profile if more than one owner is in the car. Activate the climate according to a chosen temperature, not only what’s available today. Recommend a favorite place when we get close to one etc.

    • @ChrisBarnes199
      @ChrisBarnes199 25 днів тому +2

This is a really big issue for me and FSD. I realized that if there are two routes of the similar length to my destination I always want the one with few unprotected left turns. Also here are blind areas like corners and hills that I generally avoid. Would be great if FSD allwoed for that. If every car was a robotaxi and were all talking those issue might not be a concern any more but might make traffic flow better.

Exactly. There are routes I will take just because I want to avoid an area. It might add a few extra minutes but the peace is worth it. I also avoid taking left turns into traffic (unless it's a stop light) due to lack of trust. I would rather turn right and then find the nearest U-turn. Definitely not efficient but brings me peace on the road. Ai is not thinking like that.

And maps mess up often enough that my FSD cannot get me home from work because of a major exit the FSD is interpreting from the maps as a left instead of what it is ...a right. But going to work is flawless.

@@shannon6876 true, but that’s too late, everything is being tracked, biometrics tracking are already happening. There’s a camera in the car, as already has been said. Our phones, has FaceiD and fingerprint unlocking on all the other devices. I think our future includes these logistics, especially when we are looking at these Uber awesome tech. I think FSD even in the future will learn specifically how an individual enjoys their way of driving. I think it’s inevitable. I understand your point though, privacy is a serious thing, and not having it, cause lots of anxiety. I think the conversation in itself may be the reason why it’s not there, yet.

GREAT segment Ryan! I AGREE that more AI and FSD, less buttons is good for roads, but…not for off-road or performance driving, I WANT TO DRIVE! Sometimes Driving is fun I dont trust FSD pushing the limits (driving off a cliff is NOT the same as hitting a curb). Also, have you ever tried to use a touch screen bouncing around the outback?? Voice recognition wont work, need buttons and knobs you can use with gloves on!!

Ryan, with all the cloud dependent activity, I'd like to see Tesla put 5G in its cars. I was AMAZED to see that even the Highland still uses ONLY 4G. With increasing dependency on the neural net if using autopilot, I will wait till Tesla gets 5G in its cars before updating to a new vehicle.

@@BrianNedry Yes, it seems a lot of major battery related changes are on the horizon. I also felt that Tesla would put the directional stalks back, but now I bet they will make turn signalling a verbal thing. I'm not sure how comfortable I am with the car quickly getting turn signal directions right. I can't get it to correctly hear when I ask something simple like "Play the Beatles on Apple Music" It ends up doing other songs. I tried today asking "Turn right"... The car asked me if I wanted to change mirror settings. Verbal commands aren't reliable yet.

One thing that will be very important, since we will have a few different voice assitants / AIs there will have to be a way for them to talk to each other. For example, if I spend part of my day with my google assitant, and when im driving with the Tesla Assitant, and then evening or weekends I spend time with Alexa, there has to be a way for these assistants to share their understanding about you. Otherwises it will feel like you are repeating yourself over and over.
Not to mention, if you share your car... and other devices with AI Assistants. They need to be able to understand the difference between users without having to do anything. Otherwise it becomes furstrating.

3:25 Inference hardware, not interface. That's the computer that runs the AI model, as opposed to the training computer that processes the data being sent in from the cars. "The" FSD computer in our cars actually comprises two inference computers: one running the current model and one running a potential upcoming model in shadow mode to see how well it does.
What I want from this whole thing is to have two new providers added to OpenRouter. First, I want to use the entire Tesla fleet as a distributed LLM provider. Second, I want my specific car added as an LLM provider. I would pay $0.001 per million tokens to use the fleet and $0.0001 per million tokens to use my car parked in the driveway.

I know you're being rhetorical, but of course Tesla is just another tech company that wants data from its customers.
it would be a good niche for a youtuber/mechanic's shop, a la Rich Rebuilds, to disable/modify the invasive elements (always-on connection, driver-facing camera, mic, etc) and maybe modify/enable some software lockouts e.g. "acceleration boost".
I like electric cars but don't like being part of a hive mind. testing their FSD made that even more clear to me that I don't feel comfortable with a computer driving for me.

I'm grateful for the things that Tesla has been doing and introducing into the world. But then again, I don't have the money to have a Tesla, let alone FSD, so maybe that's why I am more grateful than upset at the system? Don't know. Hopefully, owning a Tesla will become easier and cheaper to do down here in Brazil, and hopefully sooner rather than later.

Anyone else have trouble with Apple Music in the car playing the same song over and over and not playing the Artist you ask for with voice commands but a station mixed with based on the artist you asked for. Also the artist name is a different color font for a song but you can’t tap to go to the artists page. 🤷‍♂️
Waiting for the spring update also.

Need a way to change route on demand. It always wants to take a route to busy intersections so sometimes, I'll take the back roads at the start of my trip but no way to tell FSD, no take this route from start to finish. Sure, if I make a turn, it's not expecting it'll disengage and ask me what went wrong. Nothing, I just don't want to go that way. Let me point on the map the route I wish it to take and be done with it.

Hey Ryan, I've had a similar experience with the current software version as it does pull from your calendar if the address is included. Just as you mentioned, I believe the car's ability to select between home and work based on location and time of day is spot-on.
I also noticed something intriguing recently. A couple of weeks ago, I started using the navigation in the car to go to the gym in the mornings before work. After doing this consistently for a few days, I found that the car began routing us to the gym instead of work when we got in. However, the work address was still saved as work. It's fascinating to see how the system adapts to our routines over time, isn't it?

With all this emphasis on voice commands, why not have the car TELL you what it wants to communicate rather than beeps and boops, and tiny font messages on the screen which disappear too quickly. I would much rather see that than another silly game or other puerile functions I will never use. I bought AUTOMOBILES, not a gaming platform. Or so I thought.

The worst feature on a 2024 Model X - the turn signal buttons. Why are they next to each other on the left side of the steering wheel ? You have to keep looking down to make sure you press the right one Somewhat dangerous if you press the wrong one. This feature is very inferior to the stalk which is easy to do without looking down or getting confused. A partial remedy would be to put the right turn signal on the right side of the steering wheel - creating much less confusion. Bring back the stalk would be even better.

16:50 I’m a truck driver and when I’m driving my truck my car is left behind by the road side. When I come back I park up my truck and get in my car. I drive 1km to a traffic light where I do a left U turn with dedicated turn left land and traffic lights, drive 3km to traffic light where I turn right and then do 3 right turns and drive up my parking spot in front of the garage.
Driving back is same route in reverse… Would be a dream not to have to leave my car unattended during the week but be able to instruct it to drive home or instruct it to pick me up when I’m on the way home… That’s what RoboTaxi option in FSD could be all about (we have 2 cars and this way my girlfriend could use my car when I’m working…Maybe a good idea to feed to Elon…

Question for the Tesla owners in the house: do you find the amount/complexity of information on your main screen draws your attention away from the road more than a “normal” dashboard? My curiosity stems from noticing the number of times & duration Tesla drivers spend interacting with their screen (control panel?). I’m genuinely curious - this is not criticism or sarcasm. Thanks 👍

Having the voice commands processed in the car is something I've wanted for a very long time, as it often loses connectivity. However, I'm not sure why you couch this as something that might come with more advanced AI. Seems to me it will be the opposite. An AI like Grok is orders of magnitude more complex than the current car AI, requiring far more processing power, meaning that it will almost certainly ensure connectivity as a requirement, as the car's computer would be woefully incapable of housing it. The best we could hope for is a segmented system, with simple car commands on an in-car system and more free-form conversation, via Grok, communicating with the home server.

Warren Buffett is the smartest investor in the world! If Elon is already this contentious with short-sellers, adding Warren Buffet to the equation would only further make him bonkers. Warren Buffett can accurately determine the valuation of a company, which may disregard Elon's grand statements which have been sprinkled with tactical missteps.
