Video tapes and broadcasts count separately, so you can watch episode one of carpentry live broadcast to gain xp, then watch episode one of carpentry on tape to gain xp, even though you had already seen the live broadcast. Between all broadcasts of the carpentry show, the rain barrel survival show, and all corresponding video tapes PLUS reading books you can get to lvl 6 carpentry without ever having swung a hammer. You would have to be very lucky, but it could happen.
My personal method of min maxing this is... Spawn in rosewood -Get a weapon to break windows -Go to the school for books and backpack -Go to the bookshop by the church for books the school didn't have -Live in the apartments above the bookshop for 2 weeks while I read and watch TV without ever sleeping. Books you want are all carpentry, all cooking, all magazines, and whatever level you need for every other skill. By the end of the broadcasts, I typically end up with 10 carpentry, 5-7 cooking, and every other skill between 1-3 with a boost on it for leveling normally. Note that having different starting traits will drastically affect xp gain. Without a starting level in carpentry you won't get to 10. Maybe 5-7. This whole process In singleplayer with sped up time takes about an hour or 2. Have fun survivor.
small tip: there's going to be lost XP if you speed up time when s broadcast is happening because the XP gains runs on ticks, and some of them get skipped when time is sped up
Has anyone else had life and living come on at 9am? I watched it a 9 and leveled carpentry once. I also had 2 different shows come on back to back and leveled two different things between 6pm and 7pm
Yep. Sometimes they come on randomly. This is why I gather all the books I possibly in can in the first couple days, find a place to hide with a tv and just read and read in front of the tv while it's on. Your character learns while reading in front of the TV, so just read, watch and sleep for awhile.
Jim, you are experiencing the grace period which no UA-camr of Zomboid I have seen has talked about, EVER.. If there are no TVs turned on in the cell you're in (a wide area that I'm not certain of the size of) on any channel, and you don't enter a cell with a TV on, you can watch a show right up until 10 minutes before the next one comes on. This means you can watch cooking shows from 6 AM-11:50 AM, carpentry from 12 PM-5:50 PM, and survival from 6 PM-11:50 PM. If the show you're watching carries over past the time for the next show to start, say you watch cooking at 11:50 AM and it carries over to 12:20 PM? The next show will start immediately afterwards. Enjoy this knowledge that no one shares out there. :)
when i started playing i made a home my base and stocked it fully with food by looting neighbour houses but i didn't realise my base had no tv , when i realised that i got a tv but i was too late .channels didn't broadcast those shows any more , now the only way i have to learn skill is by reading a book for hours in game. Finding magazines and video tapes may help
I usually try watch at least 4 episodes of woodcraft and all the 6am shows. The woodcraft one is annoying since its at 12pm and your usually out in the world. If I can see it I will watch it, but if I am in like a place with no tv or its not safe I dont watch it. In the past I tried to everything to watch all episodes but it ends up hurting your progress in the early days. I rather have more food/loot or weapons then spending my day in houses with tvs. Ofcourse houses are good to loot but I rather loot a warehouse in that time. The 6am ones are easy since I always set my alarm at 5:50 and just watch it and make my plan for the day so its easy to do in your morning prep before you go out looting. I dont bother with the 6pm one. If I see it, its cool but if not its whatever
To be honest, You can avoid watching the TV and do it for later since there are stores filled with VHS tapes and if you read their books before watching them, They will be more effective. For example with mechanic's book and a single Carzone tape, You will get two levels of mechanic skills simply and don't have to spend hours of gameplay to reach to that level by just messing with cars' parts
best thing to do is look for a school as soon as you spawn to get as many books as you can and you can get the fast reader perk to boost your reading speed
It always says what time it will start, but how long do you have to watch? That is not specified. You spent more time asking us for support for your channel and not enough time actually giving relevant details. This game is so pathetically documented. Every answer I find leaves me with more questions. Okay, its 6am, Ive watched for 2 hours now, am I done? Does it go all the way until 12 noon for the next show? This is the type of information you should include in your video instead of begging for subs and likes on an incomplete video. Is it too much to ask? I came here for all the info Id need on the topic and left with just frustration and I probably wont even continue looking for YT videos anymore because this isnt just you asking for support while missing key details, this is a common trend in Project Zomboid help videos/tutorials. I sat for 3 hours from 6am-9am on Live & Living and my cooking skill didnt go up even .01. Its so ridiculous, a 15 year old game and they cant even communicate basic things that make sense to the user and neither can videos profiting off of this game.

With the handy trait or any job that starts with carpentry, you can get level 10. As long as you have all the books
U could also use the fast learner trait which is incredibly op when paired with a job that also has an xp boost on a skill
